Fun Fact: The Offspring frontman Dexter Holland explained the meaning behind this punk rock rager in an interview with the Argentina's Pagina 12: "The guy from 'Pretty Fly' was hooked on the latest fashion culture and [the guy from] 'You're Gonna Go Far, Kid' is busy manipulating other people. You can take him as a high school kid who tries to form his own social group, but on the way he manipulates others with a behavior disorder that will never leave him. You might see that guy later as a United States deputy or running a corporation. Even if that boy has grown up, his idea of manipulating will always be with him."
I'll be damned. I heard it was supposed to be from the viewpoint of a school shooter. Don't really remember when bc it was so long ago but that makes a little more sense to me than the shooter theory lol
3 MUST HEAR tracks by them,, The Offspring "Come Out And Play",, "Self Esteem" & "Gone Away" 🔥❤️🔥
The Offspring- Gone Away is my favourite song of theirs off my favourite album of theirs.
Yes and not the god awful FFDP version
Ixnay is so good beginning to end. I grew up with my dad playing this stuff.
The offspring - bad habit
Yassss 100%
Offspring are one of those bands you know 1 or 2 songs then see them live and realize you know most of their songs
This song was actually from 2008
Yes, I can’t believe you guys have not reacted to Come out and play. That is an absolute banger. Along with Gone Away, Defy You, and Hit that.
I think a song that always gets overlooked from their Americana album is End Of The Line
Im 57 and a metal head and i absolutely love the Offspring, great riffs
I think The Offspring leans more to Skate Punk than Pop Punk, though admittedly they do both at different times. This track is certainly more the latter of course, a bit of Alternative too, but the majority of their stuff leans more to fast Thrash-inspired Hardcore Punk which is regarded as Skate Punk. Not quite Poppy for Pop Punk, but not quite hardcore for Hardcore Punk, but plenty of 90s Angsty White Boy aggression and angst.
Every one of The Offsprings albums are great.
You two should go deep on album cuts from each from self titled to the latest.
They're older than mid 90's.
Green day and Offspring go even till the 80's
The Offspring is my favorite band since Elementary school. There are only a few more music video songs left for you to listen to I believe, those being Hit That (Which I think you two would enjoy), Let the Bad Times Roll, and We Never Have Sex Anymore. Although, if you wanted a suggestion of my favorite song to listen too, even though it isn't a music video, it would be Secrets From The Underground by them, it's a total banger.
I don't know if you guys ever played crazy taxi, but I believe this song was in soundtrack for crazy taxi. It was an arcade game and it was a Sega Dreamcast game.
This song came out in 2008 I think. The song you're thinking of, I think, is "All I Want" off of the Ixnay on the Hombre album which came out in the mid 90s
You maybe right
Offspring was the first concert I went to high. I was 17. Went to a G ‘n’ R concert at 14. Use Your Illusion tour. Final show in Miami, New Year’s Eve.
The Offspring are a very diverse and nuanced band. They started very punk, at least in lyrical content if not music. Some great example of this are early songs Beheaded, Kill the President (it's what you think) and Burn it Up. They also have a great sense of humor. Check out these intros, not really songs, Time to Relax, The Disclaimer and Intermission. The Disclaimer is probably one of the best things ever on an album to tell people to just chill, it's only music and that's a good thing. If you ever want to hear the weirdest song that any band has ever done give When You're in Prison. You'll probably think it's a troll but it is a real song.
On a similar theme (to the video, at least) is 'Into the Great Wide Open' by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
you guys should check out Downfall by Trust Company and Atlanta by Strawhorse if you haven't already heard those
TrustCompany had some bangers.
The Offspring were in Rock Band 1, 2, and 3 as well as Rock Band: Unplugged
(A Lot Like Me, All I Want, Come Out and Play (Keep 'Em Separated), Days Go By, Gone Away, Hammerhead, Pretty Fly (For a White Guy), Self Esteem, The Kids Aren't Alright, Hit That)
"Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)" was in Guitar Hero: Van Halen and GHTV along with "The Kids Aren't Alright"
"Half-Truism" was in Guitar Hero: On Tour
"Self Esteem" was in Guitar Hero (iOS) and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock
"Why Don't You Get A Job?" was in GHTV Reloaded (released last December)
this song, however, was not in any Rock Band or Guitar Hero game officially. It is playable now in Clone Hero though.
I've always really liked the drum beat in this song. I was always.
Jim in this band back in the day. And there were my first concert that I got to go to.😊🤘🖤
The Offspring - Hit that
I was happy to see this being reacted to I’ve had a Green Day phase and a the offspring phase rn I’m into Nu metal like lots of it. But I have a suggestion name by the goo goo dolls
When this was popular in like 2008 we would sit in the backyard on the picnic table, drink beer and play this on loop because it’s too short, like 6 times before moving on.
You guys should do Offspring - Staring at the Sun if you haven't. Fantastic song. Can't forget AFI is easily the top of the pop punk genre.
keep up the amazing work. let the bad times roll, turning into you, the future is now
I love this band so much, but I am honestly not real keen on their later stuff. Please check out something from one of their first two albums. "Kick Him When He's Down" or "Black Magic" would be so great! Thanks guys. Long time subscriber, love the channel.
Gotta react to Hit That. Think you'll enjoy both the song and music video greatly.
Morning guys! I like this song! Never seen the video tho. The video makes me think of a band called blue October "into the ocean" you should check that out! You'd probably enjoy it! Anyways! Happy Saturday guys!!🤘❤️🤓
Good suggestion! I love Blue October 😊
I’ve always interpreted this tune as being about politicians from both sides of the aisle. “Clever alibis, lord of the flies, hit ‘em right between the eyes” and all that.
Must do more!
Id like to see The Jim Carroll Band's "People Who Died"
A weezer is kewl.
Love to see more Highly Suspect & Mushroomhead! Don’t forget NIN! I’d also recommend The Amity Affliction & Des Rocks
Gotta do some early Offspring. Anything off of Smash. Bad Habit is a big favorite of mine
Offspring rules!!!!
The Offspring actually were pretty heavier punk in their early days. You should have a look at maybe their 'Ignition' album with songs like 'Burn it Up', Hypodermic' or 'No Hero'.
I'm gonna throw New Found Glory into the mix of pop punk in that time frame.
The whole thing with Skate and Pop Punk is that they sing on key, whereas original Punk Rock and Hardcore specifically avoided in-tune musicianship. Thanks to Post-Hardcore in the 1980s, genuine melody was given to Punk and that carried into the dominating Punk genres of the 1990s and further more into the 2000s.
Insightful take on the subject. Most appreciated.
Rancid is true street punk. They just blew up at the same time as the other you mentioned. They have some bangers though, you should react to Rancid.
It's crazy...I have never seen this video but heard the song a lot on the radio.
I see how watching the video gives you a totally different point of view.
Hah I remember Rancid a bit.
Alien Ant Farm
NOFX
idk there be lots of good PUNK ROCK bands =)
...
Pennywise
Come out and play should be your next Offspring reaction :)
one of the best songs in the world :
0:00 / 2:11
vera hall - trouble so hard 💜💚💚
Twisted insane underground psycho please
Offspring-- Smash
Vera Hall - another man done gone 💜💜💚💚
Ok... I like the one on the left now❤
My daughter, at six years old, reintroduced me to this song in the 2010s via a My Little Pony RUclips video. 🤪
I want you bad
All i want
Meaning if life
Are all bangers.
The Offspring “Smash” is the highest selling independent record of all time. The band started out as a true punk rock band and transition to pop punk as they became more popular.
Ps. Offspring wins that fight every time.
Yes, Offspring has some poppy songs and people usually react to these, but these are not necesseraly the best ones. They have a lot of incredebly good songs, and for me personally they are the band with the biggest number of great songs - I could probably name 50 songs from them that I can listen and enjoy anytime. In short, almost anything from albums Ignition, Smash, Ixnay on the hombre, Americana and Conspiracy of one are great songs. IMHO albums that came after that are not that good. It is worth being said that album Smash is the best-selling independent album of all times, and for me their best album. Songs that you need to check out next:
1. Gotta get away (Smash) - personal favorite, the third single from Smash and one of their best songs
2. Come out and play (Smash)
3. Gone away (Ixnay on the hombre)
4. Bad habit (Smash)
5. Meaning of life (Ixnay on the hombre)
6. Come out swinging (Conspiracy of one)
7. Americana (Americana)
8. Genocide (Smash)
9. Mota (Ixnay on the hombre)
10. Dirty magic (I preffer Ignition version over Days go by)
etc.
Offspring started as a SKA Band. Green Day was a Bay Area Punk Band .
No
Not SKA, in the literal definition, I was referencing Skater Music at the time.
The Offspring isn't Pop-Punk😑 they are Cali/Skate Punk. They formed in 1984 and their latest album was in 2021. Green Day didn't start off with a Pop-Punk sound either. They are just Cali/Skate Punk also. Pop-Punk became a term when Punk bands started singing on key and in tune. That's all it is. It wasn't something new. It was just more prevalent for a small time. Its not even a sub-genre. It just literally means the vocals are cleaner than the typical Punk sound.
This may have been mentioned in your first Offspring video, but just in case... Lead singer, Dexter Holland, is a molecular biologist. The drummer was kicked out of the band for refusing to get his CoViD19 immunization shots
Wrong. He was told by his doctor that he should not take the jab bc of a health condition. Dexter and the rest of the band lied to him saying that the venues wouldn’t allow him to play. After speaking with other bands on the same tour that was found to be a lie. They persecuted their long time bandmates for social brownie points. Absolutely disgusting. When you look into the details it’s actually pretty bad and downright shameful.
I really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt bc they’re my favorite band but damn…deflating
Video cool but song just okay for me. Prefer gone away. Lead singer is very smart. Had phd in microbiology
Half Truism is Offspring's best song
Offstring was more part of the No Doubts and Sublime crew. Greenday is more Emo and on that side of the clique
No... it's Blink 182
Some bands songs are better live or audio only; this video is just weird.
The offspring is not pop punk! More like punk rock royalty along with Social Distortion, the Misfits, the Ramones, pennywise, Rancid, Drip kick Murphy's and Bad Religion 💯
