Classic episode that had a big impact on me as a kid. This must have come out around 1963? To this day, I refer to the moon as the Schmoon. Hilarious to see this again.
I remember this one, too! I'm seeing online references for this as a 1959 show (Season 1). Re 1963, though, it very likely appeared in later years, but if it only ran for Season 1 (September '59 to June '60), then I saw this when I was a 3 year old or 4 year old!
As I noted on "Spumboard"...Bob Clampett made the Chipmunks puppets for The Ed Sullivan Show in 1960 for Bagdasarian, and he clearly composed some music for Clampett with the provision that Ross be allowed rights to it too..
"A Dirty Birdy" has for a "the gang getting off the gangplank" theme the first regular Woody theme, which Darrell Calker, Walter Lantz, and Unviersal Pictures inagurated for Woody's theme around 1940.
0:21 [@beginning] and 1:36 The famous "Nutcracker Suite"[s "The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" by P.I.Tschaichovsky. Both 3:27 and 5:16 fast big band chase by Ross Bagdasarian.
PS, yes THAT Ross Bagdasarian, aka David Seville, as AVY veteran watcher of the 1961-1962 "Alvin Show" will attest! Also the same who acted in Rear Window. Wrot ehte song Rosemary Clooney hated to recordf yet hit big with "Come on-a my house", created Alvin, etc.:)
Bob Clampett also seemed to have a lot of working arrangements with stock-music suppkiers and composers, and that included Darrell Calker-yes, Walter Lantz's earlier Woody Woodpecker composer, whose music fell public domain along with his successor Clarence Wheeler [ironic since Clampoett never even worked for Lantz].
Considering that JG has admitted wanting to sue Hanna Barbera over the Flintstones until the actor who played Fred asked him I he wanted to be remembered as the man who took such a beloved show off TV, I think that spoke volumes of how thin skinned he was about such things.
9 8 7 5 4 3 2 1 0 but no 6 would it be sound like sex. Schmoon sounds like shroom another word for PCP. Well I long Beany and Cecil cartoons as a little kid in the 1970's? At least those were gr8 and wonderful cartoons back then.
Regaridng a comment that WIleE made, this has some Tiny Toons similiarities but without the unessecary high budget, or tude, and actually had soemthing Tiny Toons forgot about-WARMTH--and of course better voicing..:)
That Schmoon Goon speaks like Ralph Krumden
Jack E. Leonard
This is my innocent childhood.thank you whoever is involved.i mean it.
Mine too
I beginning to believe very few cartoons can match Beany and Cecil for weirdness.
Thanks for the Beany and Cecil. Great stuff.
Im showing this to my grandkids.thank you charles thompson.seriously.
Love you bob clampett.

Cecil: Let’s see, now. It has a sky above, just like on Earth. (looks down) Say, and it has a sky below, too. A SKY BELOW?!
I loved this show. Ain't the internet grand?
Thanks for this particular post. I was looking for that episode of them using Nutcracker Suite in space, & this is it. Havent seen it since TV days.
Poor Cecil sure takes a lot of abuse.
Super Cecil!!!
Thanx youtube i needed this to cheer me up
I always thought this episode was a dream and that little boy sounded like a grown man lol
Loved the fast jazz musical score.
Beany and Cecil - wonderful cartoons, though some of the dialog was "up and over" for me when I watched back in the 1960's.

There was actually a reference about the Washington Redskins in an episode.

oh not the feet, oh golly Cece!
This isn't on one of the current B&C DVDs. Keep them coming! More B&C!

Schmoon Goon was cool until Cecil called him fat.
this to me is a parody of 1902's 1st science fiction film believe it or not "A trip to the moon"
I wonder what Jackie Gleason thought of this cartoon!

Jackie Gleason influenced the voice..at 3:34 WHY do I hear David Seville yelling.."Alvin. Alvin. ALLLLLVINNNN!":
I really don"t want to eat in those Schmoon restaurants. They lack atmosphere.
