My brother had a Beany doll with the string and box. He got it for Christmas. My mother had to drag us all to Sears on the bus, distract him while she bought it, then take us home on the bus.
The show is so unique for all its cultural references. You had to know what the reference was about to know exactly what the joke was, but if you were one of the few who “got it“, you truly enjoyed it as much as I did. I never missed an episode.
Thanks for posting! One of my favorites as a 1960s really young kid in NYC. There was also only one gas station near my home (Sinclair gas) and it had a green dinosaur mascot sign and I would think of Cecil.
Paul Frees also does narration. He also worked for Clampett's former studio WB on "The Incredible Mr.Limpet", as Crusty, and a few offscreen voices.I think he did part of the narration (with Frank Graham) to that offbeat Friz Freleng Elmer Fudd cartoon of 1948, "Each Dawn I Crow".
I never noticed before that the Skipper on Gilligan's Island seemed to resemble Captain Huffenpuff, a chubby jolly captain of a tiny ship with a little buddy on board! LOL.
Paul Frees is the "special guest voice" (as "Little Ace") here, with regulars Irv Shoemaker, Jim MacGeorge and Walker Edminston. Clampett's puns are atrocious, but funny!!
Bigg, Paul Frees was hard to get (as witness here, and the few times Warner Brothers sued him, like "The Incredible Mister Limpet"), due to his legendary above-scale fee.
@fitzington Dad and I used to watch it together, too. As you say, a great way for son and father to share quality time together. Fond memories indeed. Funniest cartoon on TV until The Simpsons 20 plus years later, no contest.
I used to watch these with my dad too fitzington, he used to do imitations of Dishonest John and we would laugh so hard. I didn't realize then how political these were. He also did a great imitation of Oil Can Harry from Mighty Mouse.
Cartoons play with art, body language, and caricatures of real life people in dramatic situations. Politics often plays out much the same way, except real people are hurt/dead when things go very wrong!
I think this is a Lazy Town rip off because Beanie sorta looks like Stingy or Ziggy and the villain guy looks Robbie Rotten a bit. The is also this tube thingy he comes down. Think about it
His mustache looks like Sportacuses also some of those things what Pixel has at the top of his house. Its pretty obvious really think about that but I don't care if it is a rip off because I like Lazy Town and I like how they made this show.
Makes me feel 5 years old again...thanks for posting it!
I haven't seen this in maybe 55 years! Thanks for hooking me up with my remote youth. Good memories.
Oh the memories, thanks for the upload. I'm 62 yrs old, remember these cartoons so well. Times were so innocent back then.
I loved this show when I was a tiny tot. I remember getting the cecil pull string doll for Xmas. Such a great memory...I had to be only 4 years old.

Similarly, so was Bullwinkle and Friends as well as Roger Ramjet.
Don’t make them that good anymore….👍🏻

And in the 1990's television series _Dinosaurs_ , the main character's last name was Sinclair, after the Sinclair Oil Corporation.
My dad used to imitate Dishonest John too! LOL. Most people I know have never heard of this cartoon. I'm glad I can send them somewhere to get a peek
Nya-ha-ha!
I learned to "Nyah ah ah," by watching this show. Thank you for posting it, person.
A blast from the past!!!
Paul Frees was also the terror-vision narrator in "Beany & Cecil Meet the Invisible Man."
"I'll buy a solid gold trampoline, diamond studded roller skates & mink covered bongo drums!" LOL!!! Classic dialogue!!!
These are awesome!

Cecil was a great sea serpent ever, I watched this cartoon as a little kid
DJ....you dirty Guy!!!
I just love the bad guý´s laugh :) NHE AH AH!!!
That unmistakable voice of Paul Frees.
My parents have a VHS tape of this somewhere in their basement. I remember so much of this episode and "No Bikini Atoll"!
I recognized Paul Frees. He also did the voice of Squddly Diddly.
Daniel Yentzer He also did Tony Cutis' Josephine voice in Some Like It Hot.
I never noticed before that the Skipper on Gilligan's Island seemed to resemble Captain Huffenpuff, a chubby jolly captain of a tiny ship with a little buddy on board! LOL.
Yet another one I've SEARCHED for for YEARS!!!!!!!

These are awesome! Thanks kappappa!
John Harris I agree it is

Someone's gotta do Dishonest John's laugh as a Sparta Remix!
Nya ah ahhh...

Ahh, innocence. I weep for you.
DIRTY DEEDS!!!!
Done At ... Reasonably Negotiated Rates! Has to Adjust for Inflation 😅

So awesome, yet so underrated. =(
Don't remember which "episode" it was, but remember DJ running from "monster", yelling "Help, Cecil, help! Help, Cecil, help! WHAT AM I SAYING!"
3,2,1...SQUUUEEZZE!
I remember this exact cartoon from the 60's! Cause I took all my hard boiled Easter Eggs and recreated the Blast-off! Squeeze! Egg pieces everywhere!
I had a Dishonest John jack-in-the-box!
StoneFredFlint I had the DJ Jump Up Game. I see it's listed on eBay.
I had a dishonest John doll. You pull the string and it goes 'nyah ah ah! dishonest John!' anyway, I wet the bed and ruined it.
@TheMikee2009 \
I agree - I loved this cartoon as a kid!
That's very funny when DJ said that he was crooked and he was too literally. 🤣😊😉
my dad made me a copy 2 or 3 years ago, but i lost it.
Paul Frees also originated the voice of the Pillsbury Doughboy.
I actually like these cartoons better than Bullwinkle.
I wish that I could find another beanie & Cecil vhs at the goodwill......

Nya ah ah!
As much as I loved the Clampett Looney Tunes 'toons, can't warm up to this. Doesn't hold up as well as Rock and Bullwinkle 🤷🏼♂️ IMHO. 🤓😎✌🏼
@mcenn Or maybe he's genre savvy and always keeps a healthy stock of cartoon gags in his capsule!
cecil gets his man.
Thank you so much! Is there anything you can't find on yt?
@WytZox1 I thought the animated "Beany and Cecil" cartoons were filmed in 1962 and 1963; "Gilligan's Island" premiered in 1964.
WHO voiced Cecil after Stan Freberg in these cartoon versions?
Jim MacGeorge, IIRC.
Actually it was Irv Shoemaker.
Bob Clampett
An anvil to the groin 4:33 . Try that Johny Noxvile!
Did Dishonest John lose his boxer shorts off camera?
When he gained the proper altitude, yes.
Doug Shoemaker
Doug Shoemaker
Hasbro Gap
@altfactor -- You're correct! Perhaps Alan Hale Jr. based his character on Captain Huffenpuff, ya think?
WEIRD!!..NYAAH AAH AAH!!!!
DJ always says nyah ah ah sounds like Curly Howard nyuk nyuk nyuk, well almost similar.
ace from outerspace sure can outwit d.j .wink.
2:05 banana?
黃香蕉
Fall back Shaq.
he. he. he .he. !!!!! :):):):) lol. ace from outer space to sea serpant , cartoon almost over . cape banana peel. lol
Bob Clampett must have been on acid!

Oh and the captain looks like Mayer means well the bird also looks like the one from the old Lazy Town with the wip puppets.
Beany and Cecil came before Lazytown
