Exquisitely sensitive performance of this lovely Christmas lullaby (new to me). Many thanks for introducing me to it !! I know I will be coming back to this moving anthem again and again.
Why do I always start to shed tears hearing this? I condemn my tears, but they are still dropping from this old mans cheeks. But maybe I have some sort of an eye disease that makes my tear channels flow over each time I hear this? Who knows?
I weep too. This non christian best Christmas song pictures me at the crable. With some nails and a hammer in my pocket ready to crucify Jesus. Because I do like my sins more than to worship Him who can deliver me from my sins.
I realize tempo is to some extent a matter of taste, but I love this tempo about which some complain - there’s enough time to hear the harmonies and the beautiful voices.
Stunning, as always. I'd like to make a request: I Vow to Thee My Country. Music by Holst. Lyrics by a father who lost his son in the Battle of the Somme. I can only imagine what VOCES8 could do with such a piece.
It is a very emotional piece. However, I believe the lyrics were written by Cecil Spring Rice in 1908, and that it was the writer's brother Gerald who died in 1916.
When you consider that the beautiful and haunting Bethlehem Down was written under the circumstances of the author's and composer's lives, it is a small miracle that it exists. Warlock was not religious and both he and Blunt were low on drinking money. I suppose that was enough motivation to write this gem.
Interesting! Though not so surprising, given that being low on money has inspired many great artists over the centuries. And of course, simply feeling spiritual or emotional rather than religious can also be forces for inspiration and creative depth.
Thank you for your amazing voices, beautifully and stunningly sung, wish you would come and sing for the Brandenburg Choral Festival of London, Happy Christmas and a great New Year
A beautiful song made the more poignant by the memory of singing it myself (tenor) something like 45 years ago. Don't think I sounded anything like as good as either Euan or Blake.

I don't want to get lynched, so I'll just say how refreshing your comment on the (indeed distracting) gurning is: no names, no pack drill, but at least it's less so now. The singing, naturally, a marvel.

The best ensemble of many very, very good ensembles. Christmas is still alive until today, and my Christmas song was released on RUclips only yesterday due to a mistake whoever/whatever caused it when releasing it shortly before Christmas. 😢 And as the 3 kings are mentioned in the 3rd verse of the lyrics, the world can listen to it even today, if listeners find it: ruclips.net/channel/UCPWFDNrkQIkM5buhypafiaA
Ah, so grateful that Christmas music hasn't ended yet . Thank you for sharing.
Every time I listen to Voces8 I am astonished at the perfection of the timing, the harmony and the diction. They are wonderful, I am awestruck
I cannot stop listening to this. I have even thought of it, waking up in the middle of the night. What sheer beauty, what a gift. Thank you so much.

Well said
Lot of new singers. Miss the old ones, though glad the tall goddess is still there.
It's not just the music or the stunning performance but the words.
Agree 100%

My Christmas has been perfect with VOCES8 taking me on this musical trip 👏👏
Was not previously familiar with this song. Love the rich depth of the harmonies. Fantastic as always!
Love this piece ... Great performance! Molly's eyebrows are so expressive ... Love ALL you guys ... Thank you ...
Sing the rest of your lives. Keep making beautiful music and I'll do the same. Thank you for what you do, it's perfection
Flawless. Stunningly beautiful. I love you folks. ❤
I realize tempo is to some extent a matter of taste, but I love this tempo about which some complain - there’s enough time to hear the harmonies and the beautiful voices.
It's a little slower than I prefer, but the singing is exquisite, as always with this ensemble.

Vielen Dank so schön ❣️
I've sung this myself and wish it were better known. Your performance gave me chills, in the best possible way.
My husband's favorite hymn
Fabulous performance of one of my favourites.

Beautiful but slightly haunting melody lines. Thanks

Sad that Warlock (real name: Philip Hazeltine) died young by suicide. 😞
Stunning. Absolutely stunning rendition of one of my favourite carols. No there's just something in my eye...
Wonderful! Happy New Year 2023 to VOCES8!
I'm eagerly looking forward to your concert on the 19th of January at the Philharmonie at Berlin !

Thanks for introducing us to this beautiful 100-plus year old English carol.
Very nice. I have been binging on Voces8 over Christmas. Hoping to get a ticket for Madrid in May.
Discovered this piece when singing Warlock's Benedicamus Domino. Beautifully done as usual. Love the tempo. See you all in the Spring in Colorado!

They should give the "Wexford Carol" a try.
They have, recently, in an arrangement by Timothy Noon, Molly's father. As beautiful as you might expect.
Maybe it's the unfortunate acoustic but I should love to hear the words more - it's a bit of a mush.
Please, "Beth-le-hem" not "Beth-lee-hem". Otherwise outstanding.
Let’s do “rule Britannia”.
