A lot of people are also missing context to this whole story because Brandon didn't really cover it. This guy had been a friend of the family for years and for years had been up to things, secretly with the son before finally escalating to outright kidnapping him and taking off to try and keep them both together. He was legitimately an all round bad person. Also, Gary's ex-wife was only upset that he didn't tell her about his plan because she said, "I would have at least driven you to the airport."
I love seeing reactions to Brandon and his jokes. As he said in one of his German weapon videos, he mentioned he wants people to learn about history and the only way he knows how to get people to pay attention and be interested is to make all kinds of fucked up jokes. Christianity doesn't have a "bad rep nowadays" because of pdf files. If we were to hold that logic true to other things that are even worse than Christianity and Churches, countless institutions would have worse reputations (i.e. public schooling, Jews/Synagogues, Islam, &c.). Probably moreso because it's been the primary major religion which has been socially-acceptable to criticize in such a manner (might be changing recently??), tbh.
