Honestly, I don't trust the whole thing of Yasuke being a samurai, it sounds like BS to me. Nobunaga was only interested in Yasuke due to his skin color, he'd never seen anyone with black skin. That would make him a servant at best, never a proper samurai however. I believe there was a person who all but became one from England, but he served under Tokugawa. I know the guy was given a title and land, as well as he married a woman from Japan. That however came from playing a significant role in ending the Warring States period.

So Ubisoft red one book from Thomas Lockey and said "yup Yasuke's a Samurai."

so a KEY difference between past protagonists is that the games HAVE always been BASED in reality and historic events and the PROTAGINIST/S HAVE ALWAYS BEEN FICTIONAL CHARACTERS! One of the biggest selling points of the older assasains creeds was seeing historical events from the perspective of someone who didn't exist it's NEVER BEEN 100% accurate nobodies saying that! People are pissy cause ubisoft is acting like this shit is accurate at first with the most obvious pandering Protagonist in the series we wouldn't fucken mind if the protaginist was a japanese character in the JAPANESE LOCATION! Unity gets a frenchman! Caribbean gets an english guy! caribbean dlc about freeing slaves GETS A FORMER SLAVE! ITS ALWAYS MADE SOME SORTA SENSE FOR THE LOCATION! Unity was so detailed they used the NOTRE dame cathedral IN GAME to REBUILD THE REAL ONE!!! Thats the level if detail and quality we got in previous games and immediately this game looks like stereotypical fuedal japan and the person they hired for that shit is a fake historian they believed for the sake of making it make sense to have their dei samurai in their game xD To say they aren't being disrespectful is wildly innaccurate cause they at first tried to say this is real(like the detail they pit into their past games) If they had never done that so much of this controversy wouldn't have happened! But the first REAL character they put as an MC being the one black guy they could find in fuedal japan is extremely suspicious like just make a make japanese character and if they want yasuke in the game so badly make him like a Leornado da Vinci from AC 2~ Like a huge side character that would be cool!!! I'm with the "haters" on this. Ubisoft is way too big to be making the mistakes they are... They can't even tell what flowers bloom in what season in Japan. But then they stomp their feet and shout "but there was a black samurai!" And as for Samurai Champloo and Afro Samurai, it would be disingenuous to put them up next to AC. Neither show even attempted to be realistic and people appreciated that. But Ubi, on the other hand, claims "Artistic License" every time they do something wrong while insisting they also are super devoted to historical accuracy. And then there's also the whole thing about how they made images of multiple Japanese historical sites for which it is illegal in Japan to do so (the big Buddha and the broken Tori gate from the bombing at Nagasaki)

Here: - they keep Gaslighting and pushing that Yasuke is Fact and True, when in reality he was More of an attraction, servant or Accessory pet for Nobanaga. - Yasuke was A Devoted Religious Person, so they changed his sexuality for some reason. - Yasuke is just a Servant or Vassal and NOT a Samurai, you to be Born to be One. And was supposed by th End in records Sent back along with the Jesuits back home and didn't go through with Nobunaga which if he was a Vassal should have stayed with him, but no he Left along with the Jesuits. - Nao and Yasuke indiscriminately Kills Innocents (which if an AC fan will point out is a Taboo and Blasphemous for the Creed, Even Ezio refuse to lock on folks). - Yasuke a Black Man is off-ing Asians in the most dishonorable and disgusting way (a True Samurai or Assassin do it fast and Efficiently. Not to be showy and disrespectful for the life) - The Japanese LITERALLY HAVE perfectly Preserved Records of their History in National Archives. They are Known to be Super Proud and prideful of their Culture, so when The West forced the Idea Yasuke was this and that. - Ubisoft is flipfloping between whether it be Historical Fantasy, or just Fantasy. - Shrines and Sacred Grounds Are being Destroyed or damaged in game, and they don't even have permission to use said Shrines and Sacred Grounds. - they are literally "Culture Appreciation" - the Prices are Insane for a Half-made Product full of bugs. - the Game is like you said Very STALE. - they Used Groups Titles and Names without the Family or the Japanese s Officials permission. - Pushes again a Social Political Agenda (which is common element in AC, but this is poorly Executed and very Generic) And there's SOO MUCH things wrong with this Game~! but in general Folks should simply be Apathetic and ignore AC Shadows and play other Games. I suggest Indies which are thriving right now.

In general, nobody wanted this to be historically accurate, Ubisoft made it a selling point, and then immediately showed that it was completely inaccurate. The worst part is how they based all of this around the Nobunaga clan, and not once asked for permission to use their iconography or consulted them in any way. It's like making a game where the Comanche are central to everything, but taking a bunch of their iconography and never consulting them on it at all.

for what its worth real samurai didn't just use swords, in real history samurai trained with every weapon from cannons and guns and bows and arrows and crossbows all the way to swords, staves, maces, and hammers even mounted combat.

I see this thrown around a lot. AC was historical in the sense that it would make some sense. Obviously they took liberties. But it made sense that Leonardo Da Vinci would help Ezio repair his cool blades and letters,the church has always meddled in less than holy activity. Then you had the pope not even being Christian and abusing his power was a clever of way of not making people mad. Plus truthfully people care less about Christianity. They are getting hate because they claimed Yasuke was a real samurai. That was proven false. Also you are right most die hard ac fans don't wanna play as non assassin characters. Honestly a lot of the nitpicks are justified with the context of the old games and marketing. So I'd be happy to answer anyone's questions.
