- Hersal Thomas, one of the pioneers of boogie woogie piano, composed some of the staples of the boogie repertoire, including “The Rocks” and “The Fives,” as well as this classic from 1925: his “Suitcase Blues.” He came from a very musical family, and he collaborated with his brother, George Washington Thomas, a pianist and composer, and his sister, Sippie Wallace, was a blues singer.
Albert Ammons, who was influenced by Thomas’ unique style, made his version of “Suitcase Blues” which has in turn had an influence on the way this composition has been played over the years.
I’ve always loved this piece and I hope you enjoy my version!

Hello RUclips Friends! Here’s a bluesy number for your Sunday. I hope you enjoy Hersal Thomas’ Suitcase Blues (now that we’re on the road again we are hoping to not have any suitcase blues!😂) and I wish you a great week!
so glad to hear this. If your left hand can barely reach a tenth - like mine - an authentic sound can be achieved as the left hand is arpeggioed !
Be safe on your travels. Love listening to the both of you.
Love all this rocking, Stephanie! 😊
Still one of my favorite pieces. I hope you and Paolo are doing well!
Baby I'm buggin out cause you give me the suitcase blues. Yes, I'm goin and it's not too late.
Great panioing! She really knows how to pound the ivory to make fantastic music!
There is a bit of ebony tickling too!
Stephanie! So very nice to hear you playing on your own! Love your style!! Many thanks, & best of everything good for your travels and concerts.
Almost like there was a little 'stride' in there? Could listen to this all day - what a treat.
OMG that was awesome! More Blues Please!
Stephanie is rolling the Blues through my body. Great, I love it.

What fun! for us to listen, and for you to play! Really perfect! Bravo!
The different atmospheres are usually enough, it like Jimmy Yancey who became more eloquent by fashion
How wonderful - a swinging Blues, and at the same time so expressive. Simply a masterpiece!
There is nothing like a good blues piano and, Ms. Trick, you do it wonderfully.
Trick's the trick

Piano is the greatest musical instrument.
Stephanie is an amazing performer: talent and class.
My favourite blues tune , played perfectly. You have inspired me to learn this one, thank you😊
So I was in the St. Mark's Church service you played for just as you made this public. 😎

Dear Stephanie, How do you do it??! Your dexterity is incredible! How do you manage to keep such perfect time, with such complicated demands on your fingers?!? I know Paolo always mentions your gift with timing, and for him to observe it, well……. I hope he was cooking you pasta while you did this video😂
As always - just so nice!
Beautiful! Love your style, smile and the joy on your face as you play! Best wishes, Jon
What magnificent undercooled speed and spirit, thanks!

Awesome! 😎
Absolutely lovely, and really enjoyed sequence from 1:10 and same leadup and surprise at 3:10...great timing.
Bravo!!!
You are keeping the fascination of the Blues alive. A big THANK YOU for your highly appreciated performance. It suits in any case ;-)
While I do love the four hands approach you two do (after all , no one else is), I am always a fan of the blues...in point of fact, blues is what led me to you two. Thanks to youtube, there are several of your performances at different blues festivals (a long time ago). I remember in one of theme you talked about being intrigued by this old music that none of your contempories had any interest. Thanks to you, this is the first time I have ever heard of this piece.
Amazing 👏 Thanks!!
Thank you for sharing this Steph. This has managed to drive away Monday morning blues on a rather dull English February day. I really love your solos and I love the blues harmonies too, so this one ticks all the boxes for me. Hope that you and Paolo are having a great time on the road and I look forward to next week's offering!
Very Cool!!
top of the top
Love this, Stephanie, as I love all the blues and boogie you've blessed us with over the years. Thanks for your hard work and willingness to share. PS have you thought about performing Peterson's "Hymn To Freedom?"
Thank you so much for the comment and suggestion! So glad you’ve enjoyed the videos ☺️
Love it!
Was looking for something else, but stumbled upon this. Which is super nice and good. Skills and with soul. Cheered up my day. Thank you. ♥
Sweet...
Great stuff!! 😊
Wonderful blues and I'm guessing it is close to the original . Your choice of tempo is just perfect.!

Love this one Stephanie! Sounds great 🎶🙂
👏👏👏👏
Delightful! Such satisfying music. Also, that is a gorgeous outfit, perfect color choice.
Thank you so much, David! 🙏🏻
Awesome! I look forward to each video you do! Always an education and a swinging performance. :)
Prayers for Travel Mercies
Oh this is one juicy boogy! I hadn't heard this one yet. Fantastic playing.
Very appealing. Just wondering about two separate pianos. Rachmaninoff is not exactly jazzy but almost. Suite no 2 for two pianos with clarity (Previn/Ashkenazy)

Love your playing Stephanie. You are one of the reasons I bought a keyboard a few years ago. I've got the my father died blues. January 24, funeral this week. My brothers, sisters, and I made an Amazing Grace video while gathered around my mom for my father. Would love for you to check it out if you get a chance. My father's obituary is in the description for Amazing Grace along with a couple other links. Thank you 🎹
Does your piano have the Spirio system? I see the green light on the corner of the piano and wonder what that is for.
Dampchaser..?
Yes!
I want you to know that Stephanie playing solo is much better performance.
*I closed my eyes and saw a 6 foot tall black man at the piano, opened them back up and........*
