  • Cole Porter wrote “Just One of Those Things” in 1935 for the Broadway show “Jubilee,” the show for which he wrote another hit song, “Begin the Beguine.” Although Porter led an intensely social life, he took his songwriting seriously. His curiosity would prompt him to get a book on anything he felt ignorant about. Porter, who claimed to do his best work after midnight, had incredible concentration skills and could compose even during parties - he would simply retreat to a quiet corner and write. His efforts produced a catalog of over 800 songs.

This song is so great because it takes a fundamentally sad thing- the breakup of a romance- and somehow turns it into triumph. I love how your four hands bring out the full exuberance of the song.

When I was a kid and also in high school I played Duo piano with my father. This brought back memories because he would reach around me the same way that Stephanie does and that was always good for a laugh! He was a large man and I was a scrawny kid.

Great father/son story. My father, who was in Vaudeville tap act for a couple of years, taught me the Time Step, a Soft Show routine and some Waltz Clog steps, but there was no warmth or fun involved.

hey guys, thanks for inventing and carrying on this tradition. I'm trying to think what other duo-ists from the past. Meade Lux Lewis and Albert Ammons? any others ? unfortunately my rep is fading due my church work being main $ these days. Ragtime was my main gig. startin in the 60s when the NY Public Lib sponsered the complete Joplin in 2 books, I waited till in came out in paperbackI hope to catch you in Solana Beach CA as I live in Del Mar, right next door.thanks for cheering up so many people, God bless, Douglas Gunderson piano, organ, viola, violin, guitar, recorders, voice, etc

@@StephanieTrickPaoloAlderighi Wow what a night! Many thanks for learning Waltzing Matilda an Road to Gundagai for us- I was amused as Waltzing Matilda sounded a little straight initially until the party started! The whole concert was wonderful and to be able to see and hear both pianos was very special. Father Michael's idea of giving complimentary sparkling wine out was brilliant. You are very generous posting your performances for others to enjoy. From the first half of the 20th Century before Television took over from piano/pianola as home entertainment. With Metta.
