You should definitely continue with Ayreon I listen to metal for like 25 years and I am ashamed that until like month ago I never heard of Arjen. Since I listen this song those roughly 4 weeks ago I have become a huge fan of Ayreon. I have listened to first 4 albums already and oh man, what a masterpieces. I don't know which one is better. I watched Electric Castle live as well and I am not affraid to compare Arjen's work to Andrew Loyd etc stuff. Its a theater, opera, music with metal. Amazing And the best thing is, Arjen is just teasing new album :D
In my opinion, Ayreon is the champion of two very distinct titles. The first is the most brilliantly composed and executed Electric Castle. And the second is the genius concept and lyrics of Human Equation. All of their albums are good, but those two are legend status IMO.

I actually laughed out loud at the end, I've been an Ayreon fan since "Into the Electric Castle" came out, when I heard this for the first time I was also pleased when Simone and Floor were singing. I knew what was coming and was waiting for the reaction.. We got it... Priceless! Floor's sister Irene also sings with the band and many other talented singers and musicians. Some you will know too.. Beside this main project he has some smaller ones: Star one, Stream of passion, Ambeon, Guilt Machine, Gentle Storm and some solo stuff. In most project science fiction story telling plays a big part. As you can imagine, with over 75 diverent singers (with most in there own bands)its hard to get them together. (beside the point that he is a social recluse and has severe stage fright). I bought one of his records as I knew that Simone was on it, and that way I learned about heaps of other singers, which led me to their bands. This is one of the reasons why i love prog... How they mix different styles of rock With the diversity and rythm from Jazz and you get some quite unique. Favourite prog? Must be Porcupine tree… Anesthetize (Live Tilburg) got it all if you are open for it. 17 mins which you either never will get back or bring you pure bliss… Your Choice :) Great reaction! These guys are on the easier scale of prog, in an area between Pink Floyd, Rush and Dream theatre.. Drummer? A god!!
Another band that is on the heavier side of prog (lead singer hates prog music so would probs disagree) is Ne Obliviscaris a song like: And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope
How he gets these people together? By being an incredibly charismaticand humble musician/producer oozing creativity and skill. Oh and his backlog. He's been at this for decades and his work is loved by just about every big name in the business here in Europe.. When he did a Live version of 20 year old record, The Electric Castle, most of the original singers jumped on the chance to perform it live with him.

Hahahaha awww you put on her shirt. Ok. Sooo many things to recommend from this one on. First of all, Ayreon is a journey in itself. Every concept album he's made is a ride. And the sisters Jansen appear multiple times. So you could try, for example: the DVD Ayreon Universe Live, the song Isolation from the cd The Human Equation, Toehider's song How Do Ghosts Work.
All Ayreon albums are really worth listening and enjoying. His is really a genius and I hoped to see him this July, but as the concerts are cancelled I hope the next year festival is having the same line-up, including Ayreon!!

I knew DT, and had only just begun hearing Nightwish, but Toehider is hilariously, riotously amazing, Symphony X is CLASSIC hard prog metal with a storytelling bent, and you already know Epica, so just dive into any of these folks' discography and hang on! Yes finally!! More Ayreon please!!! There’s a few songs from the Universe live album where you can say: Floor‘s in it. And even: Marco‘s in it. Sierk provided you with a lot of info. I‘ll out it very simply. There’s way more to Ayreon then you can think.
Tommy was with Kamelot, touring with Nightwish in North America, when Floor was called with 48 hours to learn the set list and join them in Seattle. Epic end of tour concert when Tommy, Elize and Alissa crashed Nightwish’s ending song!
I am genuinely surprised you have never heard of Ayreon (which is basically an English bastardisation of his first name: Arjen Lucassen). The man has being doing his spacerockmetaloperas for years with growing and growing success and he basically will ask anyone (yep, he even asked David Gilmour) to participate. At first it was usually musical friends and slowly but surely he got bigger names (he had Barry Hay of Golden Earring on his first album) for instance Bruce Dickinson and James LaBrie. But he also has his regular cast including Floor, Simone and a guy called Damian Wilson. The interesting part of his work is the stories of a lot of his albums are apparently connected, something akin to the Marvel Universe so to speak. But even more interesting is this bit: he never intended and wanted to play this music live but his fans which included some of his regular contributors really wanted to see it live so they (with his permission) crowdfunded a series of performances of his album The Human Equation and he came to see it and was stunned it could actually be done. This finally persuaded him to do it himself as well and with help from a lot of his muscal friends (especially Joost van den Broek who has become his music director / bandleader) they created the show called Ayreon Universe. It was announced as a once-in-a-lifetime experience but .... the shows were sold out in minutes and went extremely well (Arjen even did perform on stage although he suffers from big stage fright) so in 2018 he did another show this time focusing on the performance of just on whole album, the rockopera Into The Electric Castle. You should check out some of the videos online for these shows because in the Universe show Floor is taking part and in the Electric Castle the lovely Simone is gracing the stage and ... the Hippie even returns to th stage: ruclips.net/video/w6rBHaOmXMo/видео.html

If you like the singer at 13:18, that is Michael Erikson from Circus Maximus. I highly recommend checking them out. They started off being a prog metal cover band, covering songs from bands like Dream Theater, Symphony X, etc. Songs I'd suggest would be "Alive" "Game of Life" "Arrival of Love" and "Last Goodbye"

You also might recognize someone there that you'd normally not expect in a music video :). The Eye Of Ra (Universe): Originally a Star One (another project of Arjen) song, but performed live at an Ayreon event. Has been sometimes called "the we are the world of metal" due to the ridiculous amount of people involved on stage. It's Stargate, the song. Intergalactic Space Crusaders (Universe): Also Star One but performed at the same event as before. It's about a British Sci-Fi Show called Blake's 7. Really fun song in my opinion.

Man, I’ve discovered so many bands/singers over the years through listening to Ayreon!
Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden contacted HIM and asked if he could work with him on one of his older albums. I mean, how awesome do you have to be to have one of the dudes whose voices basically define classic heavy metal call you up and say "Hey, if you can find a spot for me on an album I'd like to do it"

Ayreon for me, is the central hub of almost all of the music I like. I bought one of his records as I knew that Simone was on it, and that way I learned about heaps of other singers, which led me to their bands. Now please react to the following:
- The Valley of the Queens (Ayreon, from the Ayreon Universe show, live)
- Everybody Dies (Ayreon Universe show, live)
- The Eye of Ra (Ayreon Universe, live, you’ll recognize the ladies in the thumbnail)

How they mix different styles of rock With the diversity and rythm from Jazz and you get some quite unique. Favourite prog? Must be Porcupine tree… Anesthetize (Live Tilburg) got it all if you are open for it. 17 mins which you either never will get back or bring you pure bliss… Your Choice :) Great reaction!
These guys are on the easier scale of prog, in an area between Pink Floyd, Rush and Dream theatre..

By being an incredibly charismaticand humble musician/producer oozing creativity and skill.
Oh and his backlog. He's been at this for decades and his work is loved by just about every big name in the business here in Europe..
When he did a Live version of 20 year old record, The Electric Castle, most of the original singers jumped on the chance to perform it live with him.

And I'm still blown away by the fact he got John de Lancie to do the narration.

All Ayreon albums are really worth listening and enjoying. His is really a genius and I hoped to see him this July, but as the concerts are cancelled I hope the next year festival is having the same line-up, including Ayreon!!

Like #100. 'Bout dadgum time. This song launched a journey of exploration for me into so many fine bands and stellar artists. I knew DT, and had only just begun hearing Nightwish, but Toehider is hilariously, riotously amazing, Symphony X is CLASSIC hard prog metal with a storytelling bent, and you already know Epica, so just dive into any of these folks' discography and hang on! There is SO much more to come...

Tommy was with Kamelot, touring with Nightwish in North America, when Floor was called with 48 hours to learn the set list and join them in Seattle. Epic end of tour concert when Tommy, Elize and Alissa crashed Nightwish’s ending song!

I am genuinely surprised you have never heard of Ayreon (which is basically an English bastardisation of his first name: Arjen Lucassen). The man has being doing his spacerockmetaloperas for years with growing and growing success and he basically will ask anyone (yep, he even asked David Gilmour) to participate. At first it was usually musical friends and slowly but surely he got bigger names (he had Barry Hay of Golden Earring on his first album) for instance Bruce Dickinson and James LaBrie. But he also has his regular cast including Floor, Simone and a guy called Damian Wilson.
The interesting part of his work is the stories of a lot of his albums are apparently connected, something akin to the Marvel Universe so to speak. But even more interesting is this bit: he never intended and wanted to play this music live but his fans which included some of his regular contributors really wanted to see it live so they (with his permission) crowdfunded a series of performances of his album The Human Equation and he came to see it and was stunned it could actually be done. This finally persuaded him to do it himself as well and with help from a lot of his muscal friends (especially Joost van den Broek who has become his music director / bandleader) they created the show called Ayreon Universe. It was announced as a once-in-a-lifetime experience but .... the shows were sold out in minutes and went extremely well (Arjen even did perform on stage although he suffers from big stage fright) so in 2018 he did another show this time focusing on the performance of just on whole album, the rockopera Into The Electric Castle. You should check out some of the videos online for these shows because in the Universe show Floor is taking part and in the Electric Castle the lovely Simone is gracing the stage and ... the Hippie even returns to th stage: ruclips.net/video/w6rBHaOmXMo/видео.html

If you like the singer at 13:18, that is Michael Erikson from Circus Maximus. I highly recommend checking them out. They started off being a prog metal cover band, covering songs from bands like Dream Theater, Symphony X, etc. Songs I'd suggest would be "Alive" "Game of Life" "Arrival of Love" and "Last Goodbye"

Valley Of The Queens (Ayreon Universe): Some more Floor (together with two other awesome ladies, Anneke van Giersbergen and Marcella Bovio)
Amazing Flight (Electric Castle Live And Other Tales): Probably Ayreon's most popular song. You also might recognize someone there that you'd normally not expect in a music video :).
The Eye Of Ra (Universe): Originally a Star One (another project of Arjen) song, but performed live at an Ayreon event. Has been sometimes called "the we are the world of metal" due to the ridiculous amount of people involved on stage. It's Stargate, the song.
Intergalactic Space Crusaders (Universe): Also Star One but performed at the same event as before. It's about a British Sci-Fi Show called Blake's 7. Really fun song in my opinion.
The Eye of Raw has Floor and Irene. You might want to check it out.
