I was involved in the testing phase of the C-17 at Edwards AFB. We had T-1, and four production planes (P-1 ~ P-4) that went through testing during the four years that I was stationed there. T-1 was the first built and is no longer flying. It was early retired due to the fact that the plane was basically hand built and no production parts would interchange. I have been retired from the AF for going on 17 years now but this was a time that I will never forget.
My Favorite Cargo Plane. One of the most beautiful planes I've ever seen. Hopefully I'll be flying one in the future. It really sucks that they aren't making it anymore.
Had my picture taken in the intake of this in 1980 . They couldn't land at our base in the desert .The air was too thin ,and the runway was too short . They did land one in the fall . I knew it was big when I saw the tail over the top of the hangers . My favorite though was the b52s and the C130s with the big birds ..
***** You are 100 % correct !! I probably made that comment before bed . Sorry about that . I was amazed by the C5 . I spent most of my time on fighters. Actually worked at Boeing after the military for a while .
its very cool to ride down south aviation ave. in the evening and look over see all the c-17s sitting or if a hurricane hits joint base charleston might have 10 of the 50 or so planes cause the rest are on missions drive 2 miles further and see shiney fresh 787-8 and -9 sitting waiting the finishing touches
Only 3 mega-hours? What have they been doing up there? I would've figured 10 meg. But I am wingless, maybe Im getting 'em mised with C-5 more often than I figured... Congratulations Globemaster group! And many more...!
l've a Boeing fan since l was a little kid. l flew in 727's back in the 80's, Pan Am to Bermuda & Puerto Rico. Solid, fast and trustable, but also worn out, noisy and polluting.
someone wanna calculate how many years that is? no? i have, now correct me if i'm wrong. but 3 million divided by 24 finds out how many days, then divde that by 365 to get the year (not including leap years), and i got 342.4 years this thing had to be flying for, non stop too. that is unless it's 3 million hours over a fleet of aircraft and not just 1 plane. that would make more sense.

Something to say when your design is time tested. This one A+

Catfish Jenkem Wait, 1980? Didn't the C-17 first flow at 1991? I think you got confused with the C-5.

Catfish Jenkem Wasn't intended to be offensive or anything, no need to sorry!
***** Good for you . Always happy when someone gets a good job .

Can anyone please explain why the plane was being housed down upon landing?
I believe it was just a sort of "salute". Same idea as a 21 gun salute, but with water cannons.

747's will last like C 130's. Proper maintainan ce and new parts will prove it. Better designs will come along, l can't wait to see.
Boeing didn't develop the C-17
McDonnell Douglas did.
YAY for the C-17s flight crew =D
think of how many milky ways you could store In that
You need help.
That is awesome
That would be 125,000 days...?
Such a cool plane.
I love it so much.
I want known about air planes.
nice kc 390
Cool!
Very interesting

+Brick Buffalo1 ,
McDonell did develop the C-17, but they screwed it up before Boeing took over. It turned out ok.
Omg why so many dislikes... Probably Airbus created a ton of accounts to dislike XD
Superb videos
Absurd such enormous tail fin. Reduce structural weigh, cut the tail fin and add two tail fin as the WWII B-24 alike. You'll get more fligh stability.
Change such long and heavy tail fin into a lighter, more maneuverable twin tail fin...
3.000.000 / 24 (hours per day) = 125.000 days
125.000 days / 365 (days per year) = 342 YEARS.... ¿¿¿???
Cuenta Falsa 3 million hours across the entire c17 fleet
