You don’t need to use full mackerel like that, I only use small baits half a joey cut length ways down the middle. That way you can get a lot more distance which I find is often a big advantage on shallower ground. Also if you use 8/0 catfish hooks or larger on a dongle you won’t hook very many dogfish as they can’t seem to manage to swallow that hook pattern.

I was using smaller baits pretty much the whole session, it was just an all out thing at the end to try persuade a big one to take the bait haha

Anglesey is producing a fair few tope as is sw Scotland, local to me is hit and miss. You need really big tides and settled weather round here
