That video was great brought back a lot memories I did my apprenticeship at K&L steel foundries Letchworth, they made a lot of wheels for different railways all over the world, before retiring I worked for 50 years in foundries, glad we can still do it
Oh what incredible skills handed down generation to generation ,we need more of these skills as part of our economy ,engineering ,design ,apprenticeships to revive our economy .
Wow keep up the good work guys you could make more British steam locomotives like the p2 I am a big fan of the p2 and the tornado I can't wait to see her on the main line
Nice. Seems like it is come along pretty fast compared to the tornado. It is great to see more main line engines in operation. Tho switchers are not half bad either. ;)
If in the future other large locos are built. Garrett would be nice or the building of replacement parts for the clan and A1 HD camera work and documentation would be useful while P2 is being built
ADVICE You guys should get HD cameras, have them trained on work and document this in detail. It's a bit too late for what's done so far, but you have many years ahead and there's that saying "better late than never". Said footage should be posted here as episodes. In time this would garner a following. People are hungry for such things, there's hundreds if not more, of people here watching all manner of technical things. Lathe work, welding, part fitment, cutting etc etc. Building a steam engine, complete with all the bells and whistles? That's like Christmas with five times the excitement.
Will Tornado and Prince of Wales use the same type of boiler? Yes, I know boilers are expensive, but would it be worth getting an extra boiler or two made so when Tornado or Prince of Wales need new boilers, they can still run while the other ones are being "repaired"?
All the wheels are now cast, we hope to have all the frame stretchers cast soon and once these are machined the frames can be bolted up. Hard to say how much will be completed by the end of the year but we can begin tasks such as machining the wheels.
I take it the plans were modified from the originals. From what I've read on some old reports, the engines had very tight fitting roller bearings causing hot boxes, and the engines derailed on sharp turns and switches. Also when would we expect her to be running?
I was wondering where the wheels were made after reading the boiler was made in Germany , and then I thought it's probably a train that is assembled in Britain from German parts , like Rolls Royce and Bentley cars.
The wheels were cast in Sheffield, the tyres are from South Africa, the main source of large diameter locomotive tyres. To make this happen you can still join the effort! www.p2steam.com/support/regular-donations/#/
No. They aren't. This is the unrebuilt version they are making. I've heard (cant remember where) that they may build a second one in rebuilt form (streamlined) if this one is popular enough :)
Is there someone out there using my name?? Or perhaps has the same name as I am seeing comments posted all over the place that didn't come from me. Anyone else with the same problem?? Curious

What an interesting practice to watch.
Great Job Keep it up
Impressive

A Garrett would be very nice! 👍

We're working on that! ;-)
The P2 Steam Locomotive Company Awesome. This is a momentous undertaking it would be a shame to not have it preserved for posterity.
aserta k
Thanks for showing, very interesting. Do you have videos on the pattern making?

That is the idea. You can see more here:

More excellent progress, well done! :)
Out of interest, how far do you expect to have got by the end of the year?

All the answers are on the website.

well done Team, Keep up the good work what ETA on running Prince of Wales P2 ?
Thanks
It could be as little as five years - you know what you all have to do! The money coming in and we'll get it done.
What are the small flames on the outside of the kibble (1:30) ? Does it have some sort of leak or something?
Are you going to make it streamlined as some of the P2s were?
No. They aren't. This is the unrebuilt version they are making. I've heard (cant remember where) that they may build a second one in rebuilt form (streamlined) if this one is popular enough :)
Oh, nice.
I think you should make a new V2 I know their is still one and same for a A3
There's already a preserved V2. His name is Green Arrow, but they have confirmed there next new-build, which is a V4.
Anymore updates???
Are they going to rebuild tank engines and extinct diesels perhaps
What's the status of this project?
