Amber Abalama No, a stalemate is where the opposition has only a king left and you arrange your pieces in a way (by mistake) where the opponents king can’t make a move without putting themselves into check.
So you accidentally end up drawing the game. It’s actually more frustrating than just having lost the game entirely 🤣

Magnus was not upset at his opponent, he was mad at himself for a shortsighted move that he knew had sent him to a draw ... as soon as he took his hand off knight-to-F4 he knew he’d missed it. Alireza sometimes manages to defeat him easily, which makes me think Abdu know the style of the previous generation as the back of his hand, but has yet to get a grip on what younger masters are doing. We're set to get at least a decade of SUPREME chess by these kids.

beautiful tactic by Abdusattorov at 7:35 that magnus missed. Abdusattorov can take the pawn with the Rook because if Magnus takes the rook, with his own, Abdusattorov's queen delivers checkmate by taking the now unguarded rook on d1!
