Everyone who loves makeup should see this video! The info here is similar to what we learned in makeup and beauty books in the 90s (I'm 37), when there was no social media or filters, and cameras & use of photos was mostly very different, so it was all about how the makeup looked IN PERSON. Also your ethos about finding what you like about yourself, and what you feel your face needs each day is very similar to what Bobbi Brown used to teach. Bravo!

There are tons of make-up tutorials all over youtube but yours stood out among all the ones I've watched because you explain SO MUCH. There were so many things that were just kind of skimmed over as common knowledge (which they probably were to everybody but me) in the other videos and left me confused or at a loss, but you covered all the bases. When you mentioned about how important lighting was with your daily makeup application, I just had to share this story! I was running a bit behind one morning and put my makeup on very quickly and in a different location that didn’t have the same light as my regular spot. So, off to work I went, just clocked in and scooted into the room and was really mentally patting myself on the back for my “good job” of not only being on time but getting myself together so quickly. Now I have to tell you, I work in an operation room. I’m kinda close to the surgeon, and unlike TV and the movies, the room is quite bright. Well, three hours later it was my break time so I skipped off to the little girls room. As I was washing my hands, I looked into the mirror to check my makeup. I was immediately horrified to see pink brows!! At first I couldn’t figure out what I was seeing and then it dawned on me that I must have used my lip liner and NOT my brow liner to fill in my brows!! How is this possible you ask? Easy! Mary Kay, which is what I was using at the time, had launched new packaging on her makeup line. The lip liner, eye liner, and brow liner were all mechanical with the entire shaft in black. The only indicator of the color was a small band around the middle. Since I use lighter shades, both the lip liner and brow liner looked almost identical in poor lighting. After being completely mortified in the bathroom, I did another quick touch up to remedy my situation and proceeded to return to the OR, hoping no one really noticed. I was wrong! The surgeon I was working with that day said across the room, “Great! You fixed your brows. I was starting to think you had contracted something”. The room erupted in laughter and I could do nothing else but laugh along with them! Sometimes you just gotta laugh at yourself.....cuz we’re all human! 💕

omg....as a guy trying to get into makeup for the purpose of live broadcasts, asking female friends and watching male makeup youtubers has always left me feeling nearly the same as before I went into it with them, still clueless. So I really mean it when I say I appreciate how in-depth you explain everything, what it's meant for, how it works, and because I understand how it works it's a lot easier to understand the concepts as they come together rather than just trying to remember "do this first" or "always do this before that" or the least helpful "just remember to stop about right there" but after watching your video (including pausing it to go check the drugstore make up video), I can honestly say I feel more confident. My favorite was when you explain how to measure the lengt hof your brows, omg sooo useful knowing that know and so much easier than when someone told me "just follow the shape of your eyebrows". Finally, I also appreciate how you explain how to view makeup, looking at it not as a mask but a way to enhance. What attracted me to makeup in the first place was the lure of hiding my skin blemishes and wanting to "look perfect" on camera where'd I'd be constantly thinking about _what else needs fixed or adjusted_ rather than focusing maybe on the good things. I dunno, anyways just wanted to say thank you for being so thorough!

I'm pretty convinced at this point that lip exfoliators make my lips much worse. My lips become peely and chapped when I use exfoliators. I used exfoliators for a while before I finally stopped and noticed a huge improvement.

Primer tip: if your foundation and primer don't like each other, it's probably because they have different bases. If your foundation is a water based one, use a water base primer. Same goes with the other type of base, silicone. Make sure your silicone based foundation goes over a silicone based primer. Check the ingredients, if the first word is water then it is usually water based. If the ingredients have many words with 'cone' in the suffixes, then it's silicone based. This is what can make your foundation look like it isn't blending or almost coming off around your nose area!
Also, this is the best tutorial I've ever watched. normalize texture skin!!
