These are a few tips, tricks and strategies to help your child follow directions at home!
Kids typically begin following simple instructions, consistently, between 12-18 months, and 2 step verbal instructions at 18-24 months!
Thanks for liking, sharing and subscribing! 🙃
    EASY WAYS to FOLLOW DIRECTIONS:
    Social Games and Activities:
Peek - a -boo / ring around the rosey / happy and you know it clap your hands
"Tell them, show them, help them" model by Laura Mize at Teach Me to Talk
IN, OUT, UNDER, NEXT TO, BETWEEN - (spatial) MAKE IT FUN
***UPDATED 10/24/21: when using the HELP THEM model, ensure that you are ASKING your child if it is okay to help them! If they say no or do not respond, continue to model for them visually yourself or video yourself and show your child this video! (Recent studies show that autisic children learn a lot of skills from watching real people complete tasks or activities!)
Set a timer - make a fun sound - use simplified language
TELL THEM - "Put Eggs IN"
SHOW THEM - WATCH MOMMY - PUT EGGS IN
HELP THEM - using Hand under hand or visual modeling
FIRST / THEN model use a
sparingly and with easily achievable tasks that are prefered.
"First ___" THEN "apple" or FIRST high five, THEN cookie (both preferred)

I have watched a few of your videos for my son who is 2 1/2. I tried this and he was so resistant for picking up his spoon or drinking out of a regular cup. I made it fun and did hand over hand. He still needs work on the spoon but he picked up his cup so good and kept drinking from it. I completely understand what I have to do cause I typically do it all for him. Thank you so much for these wonderful videos.

I would definitely talk to his pediatrician. He may not be able to properly communicate with you which causes you frustration but him also because you're upset with him and he's upset with himself. That could explain the anger. The pediatrician can recommend speech therapy, behavioral therapy and maybe some resources to help you help yourself and your son. Best of luck!

Easier to show them yes and no. Re-precautions from both. Never use "NO" unless you mean no. Praise them when the yes, and let them decide before you correct them. This training is teaching them to be behavior compliant. Not teaching them to make decisions on their own.

Yeah, I am concerned as a disabled person raising a disabled person with more complex needs that doing this will increase his chances of being harmed by those with ill intentions. I went searching through almost all the videos and it seems like ABA is the basics from this channel - which is fine, it works for some kids w/e but I won't be doing that. I wish there was more support for honoring our kid's feelings but also helping them learn to make choices THAT THEY WANT TO in a healthy way. I am concerned about "training kids" to reply to "how are you?" with "fine, how are you?" and them having no understanding why they are asking that or asking something from someone they don't really care about.
Are we helping disabled people thrive as they are or are we training them to be 'successful members of society' because you only have value if you "bring something to the table"?
I wish more professionals would listen to disabled adults and actually want to help us raise our children without the cycle of abuse we went through. Tone can be happy, but it's still manipulation, it still sets them up to be 'targets' for those with ill intent. Our children deserve help too, our children deserve better than what we had. I want to help my child thrive, but and honor his feelings, and struggles with directions or sensory overwhelm.
Sorry for the mini rant, I just saw this comment after watching a few episodes and reading nothing but praise, and thought I would comment in support of your views.
I hope you have a wonderful day, you deserve it.

Children who refuse hand-over-hand prompting are not "non-compliant" or "behavioral". Hand-over-hand prompting is very invasive and does not respect the child's bodily autonomy. A child refusing is a good thing because it shows that they recognize a boundary and advocate for themselves to maintain that boundary.

I actually totally agree with this, after a lot of differentiated studies & research. Hand under hand may be used after the adult asks, “can I help you?” Or also just visuals over & over again are great for improving self motor movement awareness & true independence in learning the skill
I should definitely update the description of this video, as it should include this new information!
      Thank you for the reminder!

I understand what you are saying but some kids on the spectrum need hand on hand prompting otherwise it won’t sink in.
