// MY CHILD IS SENSORY SEEKING! WHAT DO I DO?!
Incorporating movement, pressure and sensory play into routines!
A lot of children may have sensory processing disorder. Knowing how to help them meet their needs is critical to development!
Your child is NOT being bad, hyper or not listening. They are SEEKING input. Instead of saying "STOP ___" REPLACE that behavior with one that is appropriate (i.e. jumping on the couch to jumping on a trampoline; running around in the house to crawling through a tunnel; rocking back and forth to swinging; pulling things down to pulling squiggs off, etc)

My daughter is 13 months old and I feel she is falling behind on her words. She will say from time to time ma ma very spaced out but you can understand it. But most of the time she is quiet. She is developed in other ways, she will imitate like clapping and dancing, she will try to draw with a crayon, she also understands feelings.
That’s wonderful that she’s so communicative with gestures & actions! That’s a big predictor in language skill development! Try some silly onomatopoeias at home (uh oh! Whoops! Wee! Ahh choo! Gulp! (Fake cough) weee!) I have a video on this I’ll attach below - then move to vowels & add in /m, p, b/ sounds (the first developing sounds) so like “bye, ball, pop, poo, me, moo” Etc!

I love your videos so helpful! I am a behavioral therapist and work in an early intervention case with a 2 year old. And he elopes from the living room. He comes and plays but then leaves. How can i get him to stay in the play area for joint attention and imitation
Hmm where is he going? Can you go with him & target JA & imitation there? He might even do better since it’ll be his interest you are following!
Hi😊I'm Grama caring M-F with my 8 mo old grandson. He is not yet walking. He does crawl and is pulling up and travels along edges. He is very strong and has started rocking hard against the couch. I do lots of interaction all day with him but need help with his sensory. I have decades working with 5-9 year olds who need pressure and input but need ideas for his age. Can you give me a few? My son just turned two and only saying a few words. He has sensory issues so wanting to understand that aspect better. What do you mean he needs that aspect filled and to that do we need to do that before trying to work on sounds and words?

Hi.. My child is 2.5 years old and he has speech delay.. he always throw things like stacking cups, blocks, other toys and even utensils.. Just to hear sounds.. How can I help him avoid doing this..
Hmmm yes, that is definitely a sensory experience, and of course we want to encourage his sensory exploration, but I do understand it might cause problems at some point - if possible, are there things that sound fun that he CAN knock over? Show him what is appropriate to knock down when he is knocking things down instead of trying to get him not to - if that makes sense?
@@TheSpeechScoop I appreciate your response.. thanks a lot.. his speech is delayed he don't understand or may be I am not able to tell him what is appropriate.. but if he have two balls one is soft that don't have a loud sound and other is a hard ball with a louder sound he will prefer hard ball.. same is with other things.. I get frustrated when he continues with this habit.. I tell him not to throw.. I saw one of your video in which you had a hurt basket.. I tried that hack.. but I think he don't understand what does that mean.. kindly guide me about that..
My son keeps touching bath tovel,my eyebrows those kinda surfaces..should i let him do that or stop and take away those items from him..He has GDD and is going to start this therapy soon
That’s how he’s exploring the object! It’s okay to touch! Talk about how it feels & looks! Smooth, furry, soft, brown, little, etc!
Use their interest as a learning opportunity!

My daughter is 4 and a half and she constantly has something in her mouth.. her hair , fingers, toys. It this normal?
Hmmm no that does not sound normal per say but she could just be seeking oral input, possibly get her a chewy necklace or something that is safe to chew on! (some kids will chew on strings from hoodies, their nails, etc, and all of those are considered "normal" so she may not technically grow out of it but it may change into something "more appropriate" over time)
