After four years the mower looks really nice. I've seen four year-old movers that are fit for the trash heap. Some people just don't take care of their equipment.
I removed the yellow oil plug and replaced it with an 8" pipe and cap. No more oil draining on machine. Just make sure you completely drained the oil before removing filter. Put a paper towel below the filter to catch any oil drippings.
I use a suction device to remove the oil through the full tube, the drain is painfully slow. Amazon Kohler kit strikes again with wrong filter. Use a piece of foil molded to catch the filter drips. You can poke a hole in the bottom corner of the filter to let a lot of it drain into a plastic coffee can. I use a piece of a plastic milk jug cut to fit under the filter.
I didn’t dent the new filter , I don’t imagine. Maybe the old one if it was stuck. Yeah they do drain slow , I usually warm the engine then let it sit for a few so it drains a little faster, then I’ll do something else until it’s completed drained (like replace the other maintenance items) My old mower had a hole under the oil filter so the oil filter oil would drain under it , that was cool.
Next time you can install 1/4” fuel shut off valve on the fuel line just before the fuel filter. That way you don’t have to clamp the line before changing fuel filter, but the main benefit is you can run your carburetor dry every time you stop the tractor to prevent gas sitting in the carburetor over long period. Simply idle tractor, shut off the valve and let it run out of gas.

Guessing you dented that filter when you turned?
I use an etching pen to mark the date and hours on the filter.
