    I've come to the same conclusion. I'm a Glock guy but if I didn't have 20 some years experience with the Glock and was just getting into shooting today, I would probably lean towards the M&P too. I've been shooting the Glock for so long that despite my efforts to adopt the M&P or other alternatives I keep coming back to the Glock.

  • @joshray81

    Thanks for sharing, hickok. The G17 was my first purchase before I was ever really able to shoot and see what else is out there. (Local ranges require a party of at least two people before they will rent you a gun, unless you already own a gun) I shot well with it, but the grip always drove me nuts. I decided to sell it, and after buying a couple different all-metal pistols, I decided that I wanted to add a polymer pistol to my collection. Going back to Glocks, I've found the G19/23 grip actually fits me really well. I can't get the M&P or XDm series (or any Rugers) here in CA, so I decided to go with the G23.
    New gun buyers: Save yourself some money and find a friend that will go shooting with you. Try shooting as many different guns as you can get your hands on. You'll be a lot happier in the long run.

    I recently bought the Canik TP9 SFx. Amazing competition pistol!!!! Yea, pistols like it, and the ones in this video are in a whole different class of shooting. The Canik TP9 SFx is more a clone of the Walther Q5 Match. The trigger on mine breaks at slightly under 4 lbs. My buddy has the Glock 34. If anybody wants a "competition" style pistol, I highly recommend the TP9 SFx. I'd say it's the best shooting $500 pistol made right now. It comes with 2-20 round mags, Warren Tactical sights, 4 different base plates for an optic of your choice, match barrel that's ridiculously accurate, amazing trigger, and reset, a holster, a nice case, and a few other goodies. It doesn't need any upgrades, as it comes fully upgraded stock. I consistently shoot 1.5" - 2" groups, from 10 yards with mine, and I'm no Hickok. It's a VERY fast, and VERY light recoiling pistol too. It's supposed to come with the best striker fired trigger on the market(slightly better than the Q5). I've been VERY pleased with mine, to say the least. Check em out... Canik is also sending me a lighter recoil spring to try, at my request, for free. Just for the heck of it.

I put 100 shots down range and hit all center mass and only 1 was outside of the target. I only shoot every few months cause I'm only 18, but I would've passed a permit test had I been taking it. When I went in to the store I had it in my head that I was getting a Glock because a friend has one and loves it plus they have a great reputation. But the MP felt the best in my hand. And I also noticed that the MPs recoil was more horizontal whereas the Glock lifted the barrel vertically. Funny how people always talk about the trigger being better on the Glock - I didnt notice that at all - they felt about the same to me. And personally I think the MP looks better. I woulda been happy with either but Im glad I checked out the MP.

I must tell you it is absolutely brilliant. A fellow competitor has the M&P9 Pro with a custom trigger as well, which is also very nice. You seem to really enjoy the XDm 5.25 and you should really try it with the PRP Extreme trigger, it may be enough to make you put away your Glock....maybe.

    • @James_Edward59
      @James_Edward59 9 лет назад +1

      true true but you don't hear about accidental discharges with Springfield's. If you hear about accidental or negligent discharges, it's usually a glock.

    • @hickok45
      @hickok45  9 лет назад +18

      James Edward You don't hear about many with the Sigma, various Rugers, or the S&W M&P either. It's mostly an issue of numbers. So many Glocks in use that about any statistic is going to be higher with them. Probably more incidents of successful self defense with Glocks, probably more incidents of Glocks being stolen, probably more incidents of Glocks winning shooting matches, more incidents of Glocks LOSING shooting matches. Name a statistic for semiauto pistols, and Glock will probably be there at the top because of the massive "Glock population" out there. :-) There are probably more people driving Honda Accords stopped for speaking than people driving Corvettes. Just more of them out there. Now if we look at percentages, everything changes, of course. Not trying to defend my favorite auto pistol; everybody knows I like Glocks, and I don't try to hide it. Just wanted to point out that in this case it's generally a different reason. We'll always hear on news programs and on the Internet about more people getting bitten by their family dogs than by their family monkey. I'm such a genius. :-)

      I've written on a good amount of your videos hoping to get a reply by Hickok himself!! Lol I have finally reached my goal lol but no I completely understand what you are saying, that is definitely correct but it is true the more safeties you have the less chances of problems in a percentage game. I understand exactly why people don't like the grip safety too, its honestly not even a problem of them not working or having problems or getting in the way, its just that feeling of worry it gives you that makes you think in a self defense situation, you might need to pull the trigger in a way where you dont have time or cant put your hands on the grips correctly due to some possible reason so I completely understand why people don't like the safety.

      Careful, Hickok. We've got enough people worried about our second amendment rights, much less our first amendment rights. Although, I do admit, there are plenty of people I wish could be arrested for speaking =)

      ***** I think that was Hickok's point. He finds them stupid as well. If you watch the previous video with this particular G17, he pokes a little fun at the backplates again. As I recall in fact, he mentioned in the previous video that this G17 belongs to an actual pirate.

    Thanks for the video. I've owned a glock 34 and now have a 4.5" xdm in .40. I agree with a lot of your comments about both. I ended up selling the 34 because I just couldn't get comfortable with the grip. The xdm feels more natural to me and even in .40 seems easier to shoot than the glock. I really want to try an m&p after watching the video along with a CZ.

      Glocks don’t fit my hand either, but, I’ve got a dremel. The finger groves go first. Then round the corners and take the hump down a bit. Talon grips finish it of and it’s like a different gun.

I was wondering if you would consider doing a video on explaining how the different points of aim work and how that translates when your shooting at different distances. It would be very much appreciated! Either way thank you again for all your videos and knowledge.
