- Well, the video starts out pretty strong with good video then it completely misses the mark at the end
i filmed 3 sets of tongs being forged and this footage was all there was on the cameras. .
Hot day.. I'm not really sure.
Anyhow, it's part 2 and sadly I finished all 5 pairs of tongs. They work great. Gave them a run thru yesterday for all sorts of forging tasks.
Congrats for getting them all done - have a great class!
The students are fortunate to have you teach them.
Safe voyage!
Hey Alden, thanks going to be awesome. Pretty stoked.
Very kind of you to say. :)
Good to see you back. Nice tongs for sure!
..i could watch forge welding all day, it's just fascinating. Those turned out well. hope the students appreciate your efforts...
Thanks. You've been a supporter of the channel from early on. Much appreciated..
Most students don't really have a concept. With this said, I get it.
Turns out there will be 9 students taking the class. That's a huge Beginners class.
By the end, if everything goes well, they will have mastered forge welding for the size stock being worked.
90% of the projects have forge welding in them.
There is another video coming out soon. It's more like the older ones but with voice.
Great video. Which scarfing method do you think is better? Flat or European?
Thanks, it's hard to say.
The European scarf is faster in terms of welding time. Set up right 1 or 2 welding heats will finish the weld since it's really pivoting the stock into the same plain. Aka rotates around the center.
The flat scarf when properly applied can weld different sizes of material together easily. 1/4 to 1" if on wanted to.
When I first started Smithing (47 yrs ago) the flat scarf was all I used and had it down to a science for how thick the metal needed to be and was very guick.
I think they both have their place in one's skill set.
I'll have to dig out my old notebooks because it was long ago that I used flat most often.
@@jlpservicesinc1452 Thank you 🙏🏼
@@jackshadow325 You are welcome.
is this video in your new shop?
Sadly no.. Still in the trailer.
Getting there though.. Late fall, late spring. Still making progress just slow.
