I really like them all, the five that made the second and longest period of the MB. Rally kind, human and talented guys that left us a true and consistent musical opus through their albums. Thank you!!!
The music from Justin and The Moody Blues is timeless and still leaves me joyful after listening to it...even after close to 5 decades. Thank you Justin Hayward, thank you Moodies.
A most interesting interview and a fascinati g perspective on how we all hear things very differently. The Moody Blues changed the recording industry in a great many wondrous ways. Thanks be to Decca!
Thank you Justin, and our Moodies, for your half century of selfless and touching gifts from your hearts and lives to ours. We each have a different place your music and dedication reach us. Once you give us those gifts, they are ours forever to keep and treasure. Thank you to ALL our Moodies and to Justin. ❤⚘👍❗
Thankyou all for your music, I'm 77yrs now and played your music all myadult life thankyou I love your music still have all the albums including blue jays and Justin's thankyou
I love Justin Hayward i loveto hear about his experiences. He is so truthfuland he seems to be such a good man and good entertainer? God Bless you and your family. Merry x mas.
Justin Hayward wrote some of the most beautiful Tunes I've ever heard, and sang them equally as well! Tunes that come to mind are Watching and Waiting, Tuesday Afternoon, Questions, Never Comes the Day, Story in Your Eyes, Land of Make Believe, You and Me, Nights in White Satin, and many more!
The beauty and profound poetry in the words were unlike anything i remember from the 70s. Most bands were playing drug-infused music that weren't inspiring. I loved the Moody Blues and will never forget them! Thank you thank you thank you.....your music is incredibly uplifting to me personally. My favorite song is "In Your Wildest Dreams". Make me cry even now at 65 years old.
Linda: Spot on! Please if you can - listen to "Vincent" sung by Justin Hayward - it's on You Tube - it is simply remarkable - you will not forget......
Is there anyone who doesn't love this man, this group, the memories? The music from the Moodies is timeless. Every memory they created continúes to live on. Thank you Moodie Blues. Thank you so much!❤
@Cynthia Jaworski...everyone, they say, has a gift to give the world. Some have many. As Justin Hayward and Moodies, show us every time, his gifts are CLASS, selflessness, and music that touches and HEALS all who hear it. I find is healing and humbling that Justin and The Moodies know that special way to share those gifts with us and GIVE give them to us to keep us close to our inner selves that help us heal others in our world. Thank you for sharing with us where your have taught us beauty, love and true caring for others.
What a lovely man.. very humble.. this is what has always endeared me to his music, his personality both on stage and off... God bless him with a long life and more inspired music to come.. :)
Long time coming…. I had given up hope that the Moodies would ever be inducted into the Hall of Fame. So many years they were overlooked and lesser talent was chosen. Finally their time has come, but sadly Ray Thomas isn’t here to see it happen. I had heard Nights in White Satin in the radio as a teenager and liked it but my favs at the time were the Beatles. Around 1990 or ‘91 my husband took me to a MB concert in Sunrise, Fl and that was it! Totally blown away with the 2 he performance and music! I was star struck. That began my odyssey of traveling around the country to see them perform. Florida, Las Vegas, Pennsylvania… Each time as good as the last. Thanks, Justin, John, Ray, and Graeme for some of the best music ever. Congrats!
Justin Hayward is an inspiration to us all. His humility, sincerity and inner visions turned outward that he shares within his musical world are timeless and a pure example of gracious gifts from a blessed soul.
Omg, I just found this wonderful interview! Justin is THE quintessential artist, singer, songwriter, poet, musician, and an amazing, humble gentleman. I could listen to him speak or listen to his songs all night long. Justin's talent is right up there with Lennon & McCartney. Justin's solo work is just as amazing. On youtube, find Justin singing "Broken Dream". What a heartbreaker. I cry every time I hear it. If you haven't seen Justin perform solo, you are missing out on Justin being Justin. No words can describe his show. You just have to go and experience Justin as Justin. 💙💙💙
Always to the point. Justin never fails to answer the question. He has a great intellect and articulates very clearly. Wonderful interview. Thank you for posting.
jKathleen Mcclaskey I love Justin and all of his beautiful music. It comes from the depth of his soul and will touch yours also. His beautiful voice and songs provide alot of peace and tranquility in this busy world. He is a gift from God and we are truley blessed for his loving and joyful music. I have enjoyed justin and the moodies since the 60's. Thank You.
Justin is such a humble gentleman as was the rest of the band. What a fantastic singer, songwriter and guitarist. I could listen to him sing or speak 24/7. Luv this man and the Moodies ❤ 🎵🎶🎸🎤🎵🎸🎸❤ Fantastic catalogue not a bad song in the bunch
Justin Hayward will always be my favorite singer songwriter and guitarist ❤ He never lets us down with his songs. His voice is as magical as it always was in the beginning of his singing.Thank you Justin for many many years of beautiful music ❤❤
Just saw Justin in Durham, NC and it was absolutely fabulous! Many thanks for sharing this wonderful interview! It is a special treat to hear his thoughts and so nice to see him happy and smiling!
Excellent interview. When Justin teamed up with John and formed Blue Jays I felt it could have easily been a Moodies album. My favorite song "This Morning" sounded very Moodies. The entire LP was excellent.
Justin has written so many great songs I get annoyed that they go on and on about "nights.." when it is but one of his many masterpieces✌He is, if you'll forgive my lingo, fucking fantastic. A magical artist 💖
My thoughts very much; I'd love if a whole interview were just devoted to three lesser known songs, such as "The Actor," "Watching And Waiting" and "I Dreamed Last Night." But this was great; fascinating details.
As he is in one of the top 2 bands in the history of the world, I've always wanted to hear a good interview of Justin, [or any of the others]. The interview was about 3 hours too short, though. Thank you Ernie and PBS
Its strange..I've spent the last few years really hoping that the Moodies never stop performing, but having seen lots of the " spirits live" footage from his recent tour, the arrangements and great song choices really are superb, and in many ways may be the best vehicle to showcase the best of Justin's Moodies back catalogue. So now I'd be saddened, but not gutted. It seems pretty clear that there isnt going to be another album though, which is a shame, as Strange Times was a career best in my opinion.
Justin WAS the lead singer/song writer for the MB. He was responsible for most of MB’s creations. However John, Mike and Ray were all great singers/composers as well. Brilliant band.
18:50 - Here we have Justin admitting that he allowed the digital release to be "bricked". I always wondered if he knew that this had been done to the albums. Please! For God's sake give us back the original dynamic range that the vinyl had! These new recordings sound AWFUL! They are a waste of money. Fashions come and go! Don't let the real legacy of the Moody Blues be lost forever with these recordings that are cropped to death! Let the recordings breathe like they were meant to! It was an essential part of what made them GREAT!
"Stairway to Heaven", "Bright Eyes" - oh, just buy the CD, "Classic Blue". So many covers & he just absolutely nails them all - they're perfect... His portrait is one of my favourites too. This CD should be in EVERYONE'S collection. You can thank me later...
Nights in white satin, the classic song. Justin might write a slow, ethereal song again with touching guitar riffs. Hint of longing & sadness in it. Please try. Find another Mike Pinder to add more sounds.
Unbelievable. Justin is such a great interview. Nothing is held back. Such a proper English gentleman. Question though. Is his hair still blond or completely white? Hard to tell. But I love him. So honest.
Tom Gurecki I agree that Justin is truly unbelievable - such an awesome man of unmeasurable talent! I've seen him in person - just last year - (and will see him again next week).. and I think his hair is blond. However... from my personal opinion, I truly don't mind either way. He is just so mesmerizing and talented. If you can ever be blessed with the opportunity, go see him in person.... I promise you - you'll have NO regrets! :)
adorably grey and still very handsome as well as being a fantastic singer and songwriter with a voice that cannot be equalled! Honest and natural. Almost perfect but I'd check with Marie first LOL.
It took me a while to really take on the Moody Blues and or Justin as a fan of their music. I do remember their early album/singles but to a large extent unless you had an older brother/friend the only way to hear their music was through the record stations. I know that FM radio broke ground for them in the states. But album sales require special ordering or Import Records. Digital downloads as made it more of a level playing field if the band you are interested in has a large enough following. Which I think the Moody's have! I had a college girlfriend that was into the Moody's Blues so my first real listen to their music. You really can't understand who the musicians are if you just base their sound off of a single piece of music. Once you have invested in their albums and really listen to more of their catalog then you have the right to become a fan.
"decker " LOL.... intresting comments as to original cd quality i took the vinyls and taped them for my walkman , for years i listened to them degrading obviously with time and useage, then CD come out and didnt we all think digital was better? and it isnt...
I wish this would be asked about. But I know "Keys of the Kingdom" and "Strange Times" did not sell well and industry talk was that fans and arenas wanted them to focus on oldies.
@@squatch545 It's not all moot unless Justin and John decide it is. The Bay City Rollers have just one original member. Justin and John make two and they could see if Mike wants to come back finally or original member Denny Laine, and see about one or more like minded musicians joining if they wished. So much in their lyrics were about not giving up and never saying die.
@@bobdavis4848 My original comment was 9 years ago. There might have been an outside chance then that the Moodies could do another album. But Mike Pinder is about to turn 81, Justin is 76, and John is 77. John and Justin are still writing music, but not together anymore. And even if they were, it would be the Blue Jays, not the Moodies. Mike is not writing any music. So it will never come about, especially without Ray and Graeme.
Interesting that Decca wanted another NIWS. For the three albums that followed Days of Future Passed, the label bypassed obvious singles in favor of Hayward ballads. None fared very well. Good songs but not singles. As JH states, the singles success started when the record label gave up its obsession with "another Nights in White Satin" and went with "Question" and "Story in Your Eyes". They even took a flyer with Lodge songs in 1972.
But I thought Justin said the recored label Decca was old guys who said to do whatever they wanted, like in the fantastic studio they had. I thought it was other industry folks...and maybe certain kinds of fans... who asked for another "Nights..."

Has anyone ever asked Justin about how he felt being so so beautiful. Was it a crutch, or an asset? I had a mother who won beauty contests, that told me to never tell my daughter that she was pretty.
"...told me to never tell my daughter that she was pretty." Your own daughter you mean? Ummm, I would advise against what your mother said. I know I came from a family where I was never told I was attractive or pretty. I have also talked with other women who have the same experience as me. The result was that I was very insecure. I had not concept of my own value or worth. I let people abuse me cause I didn't think I mattered. The other women that share the same experience as me also reported being insecure with not having any self esteem or concept of own worth or value.
I went through phases. A pretty little girl with long, blonde hair, but shy. Mother never complimented me - ever. Then I went through a few years of being homely and nothing going together somehow, so l got through it by being funny. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. I got through the awkward, gangly stage and everything shifted to the right places at 15. My sense of humour has been the best gift and people don't expect it, which is even more fun!
Ironic that Justin on the one hand says that he follows his own muse and on the other hand says that he has to compete by destroying the dynamic range of the recordings like all the other idiots! That fashion is going out of style now anyway! People WANT to hear the subtle soft passages played softly and the loud passages loud! They no longer want that continuously loud homogeneous sound anymore! Its boring!
I think Justin was talking about following his own muse in terms of artistic content and songwriting, not dynamic range. Great news at the end of your comment.
The Band knows and they've not been happy about it. Ticketmaster is the worst. I did a lot of checking the lower priced tickets are never actually available to fans at face value as are many of the other higher priced ones. They are actually sold by "umbrella companies" under other names that fall under - big surprise - Ticketmaster! They also sell blocks of tickets. Buying one or two tickets is difficult - especially for good seats. It can be done, but you really have to continually track what you want. Sometimes, the Box Office is reasonable.
I love this man. The Moodies are part of the sound track of my youth.

justin is very sexy
Three people came here to hate on Justin. Weird?
@Ron Mattson..
In music we'd call those three The Devil's Triad...and we ALL KNOW WHERE THEY CAN GO!!!!!
Has anyone ever asked Justin about how he felt being so so beautiful. Was it a crutch, or an asset? I had a mother who won beauty contests, that told me to never tell my daughter that she was pretty.
I think that would embarrass the crap out of him to be asked that.
Once in a while an interviewer would comment on his looks, and he didn’t like it.
His female fans let him know.
It is NIGHTS not knights. thanks.
12.99 or 30.99 for a ticket??? Has he a clue of concert tickets? To funny when was the last time he checked how much his tickets actually cost?
Maybe for the venues he's playing these days (not big arenas).
I thought that was record album prices quotes he was saying.
I really like this person. I have to admit. He is a good mentor. A good role model.
The man does not age in time. Amaziing
