Because of his experiences, he was frequently on edge, irritable, and began to engage in dangerous behavior. I can relate my friend.
I was in the Navy during the 1980s and saw no combat. I went to Iraq in 2004 as a contractor. Saw no combat other than the random mortar attacks that did not traumatize me at all. Cause I never got hit. I remember the July 4, 2004 BBQ at Camp Anaconda in Balad Iraq. It got mortar attacked and 15 people were wounded. I was not there as I just got to the base on July 4 and did not even know about the BBQ. The only thing from Iraq that hurt me emotionally was when I got back to the USA and was in a sports bar and there was a TV show about Iraq and the traumatic injuries the soldiers faced and it reminded me of the cool young soldiers I interacted with on my job and I was very sad.

Your story helped me understand one small point about PTSD. After WWII the schools and colleges were full of vets, there was still strong discipline. After listening to you I realize that after being in a place where everything had to be done right and now, being in a current school now would be difficult, the lack of respect etc Thanks, and I wish you well!

Losing a buddy in combat is always difficult...always.
I understand him I lost my best friend in Afghanistan to an IED and I lost my right leg I had been friends with my buddy since I was in was in 1st grade it was hard to tell his mother and his wife I still get jumpy when I think I see people with guns or when I see somebody tying their shoes I think they are planting IED I hate being a civilian again think everyone is out to get me

I am sorry for the loss, but I am happy for U my Brother, I'm happy that the help was there for you and others when you needed it. I pray that the VA keeps it going, for ever. It was not there when I returned and like U I lost a few friends and some others have picked to end it. I do and have not taken to the bottle, cause every time I turned to it I got so sick, and I have never done Drugs because of what I saw my 1st action day (my 1st night in NAM), scared the he-ll and sh-it out of me. I did finely get help from the VA in 2011 and in 2013 then gave my more than the 10% they gave me after RVN with my many problems, but like many of US back then, MY Country "MY UNCLE SAM" will take care of me. God and Country, been in a chair for a long time, no feeling in left side, AGO problems all over, right ear dead, left -60% eyes all FU, etc, etc, and U just give me my M14 and yes sir I'll do it again knowing that I would end up the same, GOD & MY COUNRTY, USA HAY SSG "Mad Jack Dusterman/Quads"
Losing friends and waiting to be called up to go where they are gets to you. I was called up and reclassified twice then told i was going. I waited to see when it would be, Some thing happened and i never received notice and nothing further. My first notice was in 1964 and i had been through the draft board and into the induction center. I waited, lost more friends in Viet Nam, 17 be be exact, These people and these things will always be with me the rest of my life,

I HAVE SUCH A RESPECT AND ADMIRATION FOR ALL The MEM and Women's who sacrifice so much for ALL US. THAT every time there is An organization who SUPPORT THEM we want to do our part..
