Love the way that Crusoe is allowed to be a little boy playing in the mud and being a part of whatever’s happening. No one telling him to stay out of the mud, “ that’s too dangerous”, or “ get out of the puddle”, etc. good on you.

In fact, building a natural pond will boost the water level of the ground water (aquifer) in the area. So everyone who has a well from your property on down the watershed will benefit. I suggest that you have done everyone in the watershed a favor. The goal is to store the water on site as close as possible to the source so wells don't run dry. I suggest you do not line the pond until you know that you must to get through the summer. With multiple springs feeding the pond... 😊 You have a lot of beautiful green grass to feed your animals. Get a bagging lawn mower, set it on the highest setting and cut two or 3 bags a day for your animals. Anything that's left over, toss onto the compost piles start now or you will have a jungle! 😊 Regarding aphids: use peppermint castile soap. Not artificial - all natural product and more effective than store bought dish soap. 😊 Everything that want to vine and climb will do well on bamboo trellis. Watch this lady build trellis out of bamboo in Vietnam: ruclips.net/video/2cJ7pphXTM0/видео.html You will want to keep a small patch of bamboo growing just for this purpose. 😊Plant your tomatoes right away. Don't wait. If they are leggy, you can bury them deep and the stem will form additional roots.

Companion planting helps in preventing aphids: oregano, chives, garlic, onions, leeks, sage, basil, etc. (strong smelling plants); but also preventing ant colonies may help. Neem oil with water for spraying until the aphids and eggs are all gone. Some bug hotels for your ladybirds 🐞 with loads of diverse flowers… I’m not sure if possible in Portugal, but in Belgium and the Netherlands we can actually buy a box of ladybugs and ladybug larvae 🐛

The ground must be different where I live. A bulldozer dug my pond, going round and round packing down the clay so it would hold water and it did. My neighbor across the road dug his with a backhoe and it turned into a muddy mess and did not hold water. And when you get deep water in it please keep a close eye on Crusoe. He disappears quickly, and ponds are so attractive and deadly to small children.

Wow I’m so jealous of your climate and being able to plant out your tomatoes already. Mine are still keeping warm inside the house for a while yet. In answer to your question about planting them out in flower, definitely yes , not a problem. Quick tip though, when you do, just plant them as deep as you can. You can bury them right up to the bottom leaves. The stem will then grow lots more roots and be able to take up more water and be a stronger, healthier plant. Happy planting.

I don't know about attracting Ladybirds but Hoverflies can be attracted by planting Limnanthes or "Poached Egg" plants - they are much prettier than they sound (as are the Hoverflies), and will self seed happily.
The Hoverflies themselves just drink nectar and are super good at helping to pollinate plants, but their larvae are the ones that will go for the aphids!
I'm pretty sure you can buy kits online of natural predators of aphids and the like, and if you add garlic to your soapy water spray it will boost the efficacy due to its sulphur content which is toxic to a lot of the undesirable bugs!
Your spring is such a brilliant find, and Mario really is amazing with his digger skills! I can't wait for the next update!

Another suggestion. I have seen many Universities in America an maybe others… students volunteer to come to farms such as you to do WORK… gardening, carpenter, stone work, they pay their expenses, you provide food/ place to sleep. 👍👍. In Europe many bring their own Tents… just decide how many you could use comfortably. Get wine House completely operational, water suppers.. engineer students, carpenters, stone person ( Italy folks), a person for putting up veggies ( plants lots garlic to hang from rafters…. Get all bldgs ready for winter, more stone walkways… whatever u need ASAP… Make Video, send to University towns, ASAP ( require background check, proof of round trip airfare ticket). It’s done in many countries. Hope u can get this “ cracking “ asap to help the next 3/4 months. There are Universities that give college credit but that might take lot paper work BUT there are many young people like adventure. Decide if u want girls an guys together ( enough said on that). Guys just stronger for farm. Your young neighbor would be great overseer to help Husband a couple days… so many students look at this as a learning vacation.

You know, even though it's not an ancient discovery, discovering that water source that was so intentionally built out like that was magical in the same way as an archeological find! Someone you will never know, a while ago, lived on that land and had the same issues with water - and did nearly the same sorts of things to fix it! Amazing.

I’m loving the Wednesday videos! As far as tomato flowers, the plants are still too small to flower, so you want to prune them all off anyways to encourage the plant to grow taller and establish better roots outside in the ground first. Also I recommend a pump-pressure sprayer thingy to avoid your hand getting super sore when spraying plants. And I hope you have been collecting a couple hundred jars minimum (reusing grocery store food jars is absolutely fine) and familiarising yourself with canning principles (I’m happy to give tips and recipes!). Because yes, you will be absolutely OVERWHELMED with produce from that size garden. Knowing what to do with it, canning, dehydrating, fermenting, freezing etc. before the flood happens, will really help with your sanity 😊❤ much love from Southern Spain! 🤗

Big metal pots to do all canning outside/ with wood fire…😄… will be cooler than inside … u might need some teenagers help you a few days.. time consuming by yourself. Use as little Plastic as possible. ECObunfruendly to that beautiful earth there please.

In France the farmers are still using the Roman aqueducts to transport their water. You might like them up and their architecture! Water was also transported into the spas in Rome using clay tiles! You might try using some of your roofing tiles to see if they could carry the flow, and use cement to bind them?

I use this for on my plants Tara for flowers and shrubs : To make a basic neem oil spray, dissolve 1 tbsp of neem oil and 1 tbsp of castile soap, in 1l of warm water, and mix thoroughly and spray. They say you can use neem oil on vegetables, I have not tried this but have heard Castile peppermint soap in warm water does, so will also give this a try myself this year. Also lady birds I think you can buy on line. How exciting finding that spring. Well done.

I've found the BEST way to manage aphids on your broadbeans is removing the growing tip of your plants (the bit they congregate on) entirely when the plants are 2 to 3 feet high. It won't hurt the plants and it really does work. I've been doing that for a few years now. Best of luck, Carolyn

    Hi Mum and Dad! 👋😃
Tomatoes are pretty tough, so if you give them a good drink, they should be fine (try transplanting them in the cool of the afternoon/evening. Also, the bits that you snap out of the leaf forks, just pop into a pot to start a new plant.
