@@kingoffriesthekingwillrise1701 I'm anticipating the future. Since they have a 100% consistent reaction rate to fans who dislike what they've done to star wars, I have little reason to imagine they will veer from their destructive path.
The problem is that today's kids aren't into what 80s kids liked, so this is trying to capture the youth of gen-x nostalgia. It's entirely the wrong demographic.
And as a Gen X, I think this looks like crap. Pass.

It’s not even Stranger Things. What made Stranger Things the better homage is, unlike 21st century kids in pop culture, who are portrayed as lovable, rambunctious little scamps, they were foul mouthed, argumentative, imperfect, but still genuinely good kids (I can’t see any of these kids calling one another “penis breath”). This is more like The Little Rascals in space. And even THAT had a bit of an edge.

Goonies in space ? Drop the Star Wars from the name and most would be fine with it.
If Disney did a kids show about Star Wars fans going into space with aliens as an homage to the '80s and it would be fine. Pretending this is Star Wars shows what they think of the property.
That's my problem with Lower Decks. It is presented as canon and a mountain of cheap jokes have now terminally infected Memory Alpha (the Trek wiki).

@@rayname908 I have the feeling that Skeleton Crew actually started out as a group of kids from Earth being accidentally transported to the Star Wars galaxy, and Lucasfilm decided that they should be native to the Star Wars galaxy instead... and made no other change whatsoever. If you look at it that way it makes a lot more sense.

The trailer was underwhelming. It's definitely not Star Wars. To be honest I check the trailers out, but Star Wars became dead to me at Last Jedi.

I first saw Star Wars (A New Hope) as a kid (11) at the movies in 1977. That's what kids watched in the 1970s. I hate this sort of "kid's show" tbh, and I always have. These sorts of show look like what an adult "thinks" kids like. It looks really stupid. If this was the first Star Wars in 1977, I would've passed.
Even the version of major tom is horrible wtf poor John Williams all that beautiful music her wrote for Star Wars and the only thing you hear of it these days is the loud boisterous trumpet blast that you recognize but they never play all of it so effin dumb Disney and Star Wars! R.I.P.

Disney has made me so cynical that were I a parent I would watch this first before I got fooled into the “kids show.” This is new Disney. An untrustworthy duplicitous Disney. Why does every alien in Disney Star Wars have to speak English? This show further illustrates that Disney doesn't understand Star Wars at all.
Hasn't it always been that way? In Star Wars lore they call the language "Basic", and I assume it's just a standard for interstellar commerce or something. Kind of like how English is the international language of aviation in the real world.

Robots like C3P0 literally exist to be language interpreters and allow communication between alien species since not everybody can (or is arsed to) learn Basic, especially outside the Core worlds and other repubblic controlled space.

There was a guy with glasses in season 1 of The Mandalorian and it also stood out like a sore thumb.
They should have just used Maz Kanada, she wears glasses because she has tiny eyes. But a human wearing glasses in the Star Wars universe just looks stupid.

There's never been a need to do a 'kids' Star Wars show or film, Star Wars has always been a cross generation franchise. I saw EpIV as a 4 year old and loved it from that day on. This new show just looks awful.

The song isn't from Devo, but you have the right time period. It's "Major Tom (Coming Home)" by Peter Schilling, and it's either the original German version or a new version in Huttese; I can't hear the lyrics well enough to be sure. The English language version of the song was popular in the U.S., way back in the early eighties.
It looks so much like our world that the Max Reebo kid looks out of place until they are on the adventure.

Set designer should be canned. I don't see anything Star Wars in this from the ships, creatures, sets or music. If they just called it Skeleton Crew instead of slapping Star Wars on it for no apparent reason this show may have a chance. Disney couldn't use The Goonies due to rights issues. Another stupid decision by Dana Waldman and Bob Iger.

Skeleton Crew reminds me a lot of Asimov's Second Foundation, specifically the Arkady storyline.
The beach planet in Andor also seems inspired by that.
Famously, Coruscant was inspired by Terminus, from Foundation.

I'm not sure what pisses me off more. Using a great tune like Major Tom in Star Wars, or making Star Wars Goonies. And now that you mentioned it, glasses and IKEA chairs too.
The character wearing regular eye-glasses did for me what Ikea did for everyone else
1) Peter Chilling. Love this song both in German and English but in Star Wars, no. Just...no.
2) You can't get "lost" in the Star Was universe. You simply need to sync with an astromech. Hyperspace can only take you through specific routes. This is the entire point of much of Star Wars canon.
3) Glasses do exist in the Star Wars universe. At least since Rebels and Andor.

Here is my creative theory for Star Wars. Every thematic, mechanical, setting element needs to be 3 times removed from reality. If you do that, you will get it right or darn close.

What's sad is, without the "star wars" name, this could be a legitimately good idea.
A throwback 80's style kids adventure movie in space. You could even call it '80's Kids in Space' but say it's a future earth, like 2180. Disney needs to return to feel-good, family entertainment.
