- In this cook with me video, I show you my take on Santa's Florida Christmas breakfast. If Santa had a home in Florida and he was done with all of his work, this is my version of a Christmas morning breakfast table in Florida. The tablecloth was a gift from a great subscriber. I used vintage dinnerware and accessories on this table to give it that midcentury Florida look. This video was fun to do and we hope this might give someone ideas for their own tropical breakfast tablesetting. When my Mother was a child, the only time they had oranges was at Christmas. I assumed the reason was that's when they got ripe, limited shelf life, and they were expensive. We put them in the stockings in my time, of course.
We drove to Chattahoochee right after Christmas in 1963 to visit my brother's fiance's family.
My Mother wrote: "Mon. they took us to Panama City. It’s a wonderful resort for warmer weather. It was a cold windy day. We stopped at a place called Shrimp Boat right on the water and had shrimp in the rough for our dinner. Also drove through a boys correctional institution where the grounds had the Christmas story displayed with all sorts of figures and lighting. It is the prettiest thing I have ever seen.
"We started home Mon. 9 a.m. and raining - later it was hail, snow and sleet in Georgia. Telephone and electric poles & lines were falling, tree tops breaking - people’s yards were covered with broken branches & drives were blocked with trees. It was slow driving & people who were on the road did not have snow tires. They could slide and stop and block the road so we had to stop at Edonton, Ga. overnight and started out Wed. morning about 7:30 a.m. and got home by 10:30 p.m. We didn’t have any trouble sliding."
My sister wrote: "We ate supper at a place called the Shrimp Boat: I ate shrimp for the first time. (Janet didn’t like it.)"

My goodness what a time to be on the road ! Shrimp is at the top of my all time favorites way ..deep fried butterfly...scampi !...shrimp cocktail ! Just heaven ! And some of the restaurant s here get it fresh daily !!! What ! Hello !!! Its divine ! 🎄🎠🎁🔔
Holy cow! What a breakfast feast. We are on the way! Flying in on a wing and a prayer! I never could get my potato Pattie’s, as we called them up here, to crisp up. Now I know how. Yum! Fab meal on a fab decorated table. Santa will be even fatter after enjoying this scrumptious repast! We don’t call you Wonderman for nothing! Colcannon and Champ are Irish dishes. Champ is mashed potatoes with chopped spring onions (scallions) and milk. Colcannon is Champ with the addition of cabbage and sometimes some herbs. Bubble and Squeak is a fried British dish made with potatoes and cabbage. It's quite similar to Irish Colcannon. Bubble and Squeak often contains meat or ham or bacon, is traditionally made on Monday with the leftovers from Sunday's dinner or on Boxing Day with leftovers from Christmas dinner. Think Santa will need a nap 💤 after this breakfast - it’s more than I eat over several days!!

To make authentic Bubble and Squeak (fried British dish using leftover potatoes and cabbage) butter, lard or bacon fat are used for frying not vegetable oil or shortening.

It could be Spring if you take out the Christmas berries, sleigh and reindeer candle holders. Citrus season is over by Spring here in Florida.😊
@@Angela-hn7kt The table resembles Easter because there are eggs and a lot of celadon color, which is associated with young spring leaves. Deer are also present in spring. Only sleds are not suitable for spring. However, Christmas is mainly associated with decorations such as a Christmas tree, gifts, snowmen, snowflakes, and Santa Claus. This table is beautiful, but its meaning is not immediately obvious.
Perhaps you missed my statement in the beginning about where Santa goes when Christmas is over ! ?
