Do you need a battery to use that newer style of coil? I'd like to not have to rely on points for my tractor, but I have no battery as I've switched to rope start
Can't say that it will help yours but it fixed mine. All it has is the coil and a kill wire to the switch. Mine would start, it just took awhile to start.

Tank was replaced in mine. It has a plastic tank that doesn't line up with the hole in the hood

Gas tank on this one is not the original. It was changed before I bought it.

398811 is what I used, got it from Amazon...

The 14 was only made in 71 .also the 15 the following year.
