"death cannot reign in a world without life" always loved that line from mortanius, was interesting to wonder if it was advice for the current situation or a sage warning for the future to come
As someone who has played all the games since their original releases and still am fortunate enough to own all my original copies, I absolutely love this channel. This is by far the best LOK RUclips channel. The amount of detail and obvious love of the games is outstanding. I'm super excited to have a new video to watch. Thanks so much.
If it weren’t for this one man taking this one gamble by remaking Kain, Nosgoth’s doom would’ve been inexorably assured in ways deeper than he could possibly imagine. Appreciate Mortanius, for with out him, the elder god would’ve won before this series even began. ~(It’s also nice having a necromancer character who’s more complex & well-meaning, rather than a simple straight-forward villain as they’re often depicted being)
I've been an LoK fan ever since I played the Soul Reaver demo on some disk I got in a magazine. Started with SR, and got SR2 and Defiance as soon as they came out. I didn't play Blood Omen until some time after I'd already beated the previously mentioned games. I suppose my point is that I'm a huge fan and I love and greatly appreciate the content you put out regarding the LoK series. I've watched several of the videos more than once and watch any new ones ASAP. I hope that you continue putting out this awesome content and maybe bring in some new fans. Keep it up, Raina!
Haha, I played the LOK games exactly as you did :D Glad that you enjoy our content! I do not have time for making videos anymore, so Baz took over fully!
I love this one. Thanks Raina. Here's my honest opinion on the Byronic Mortanius. He's what I liked to call the Atoner, because he didn't realize at first, what it was the Pillars of Nosgoth were holding back, and he refused to believe the myths that the Vampires were a plague, a pestilence that had to be removed, but they were right all along and Mortanius was a fool, used by a manipulator like Moebius, for his and the Elder God's own insidious ends. It's exactly (although the two game franchises are different, but shared the same morality in the narrative as a whole) how Otacon had felt, during the events of the Shadow Moses Incident in Metal Gear Solid 1 and he too, became an Atoner in his own right, that he thought he would become a famous scientist in order to make robots like the ones seen in the Japanese Animes, but was wound up used as a pawn of the Government to make a deadly walking death mobile, as he stated that they had to take responsibility for their actions, as Science had always thrived on War. The weapons of mass destruction were created by scientists who wanted to be famous. He, like Mortanius, decided to atone himself, and became one of the most Byronic heroes ever created.
Best Lok chanel there is and ever will be, I been away for while, have a new account now, let me quick go and like all the arcane tomes vids, cheers Raina and Baziel, you guys are the best for keeping this magnum opus alive!
Thank you for keeping the LoK games and their stories alive. I hope one day we will witness their return. Until then , we shall keep forging destiny, one coin flip at a time...
Despite the fact that most of the content was already known to me, there were some links and elements I had never associated that opened doors to a best understanding of the overall context... So thanks for this video, mostly appreciated!! 🥰
So something that's always bothered me, why didn't Kain's successor get born after Kain's death, what did Mortainus do to Kain between his death and resurrection that kept him from losing control of the Balance Pillar?
There are two explanations. 1) the pillars were corrupted and this stalled the entire process. Note no new mind guardian is born when Kain kills Nupraptor. 2)you don't just kill a guardian, you return their token. The token of the balance guardian is their soul and Mortanius held up Kain's soul in the underworld, preventing it from returning to the pillars
a Remaster would be a bit iffy but appreciated the issue is that trying ot remake these game today would taint their original story with modern sensibilites.
I wasn't familiar with the unused dialogue. Mortanius is quite an interesting character in the series. I don't think I've encountered the Defiance cutscene with Raziel in the spectral realm which surprised me.
great video , wasnt expecting a dedicated video to my favorite pillar guardian mortanius, keep up the good work, are you gonna make a video for each pillar guardian that would be great
Examining the original intentions of Blood Omen LOK is always so fascinating to me considering what the series would eventually become. There is so much to unpack for a PS1 game with like 2 hours max of recorded dialog
One thing i always wonder about is, did Mortanius and Moebius know what the other was up to. And it kind of makes me laugh to imagine what would've been going through their heads every time the other made a move. I can just imagine Mortanius like 'excuse the ever loving fuck out of me Moebius, but Kain is my pawn. Get your own pawn.' Then Moebius being like 'why the sudden love for the vampires. You helped overthrow them too you creepy zombie looking bitch.' 'Oh trick my pawn into going back in time. Fine, i'mma get him to give you a nice hair cut when he gets back.' Then just laughing when Kain lops off Moebius head and just replaying that over and over until his friends on the other side took him for another joyride. ...i overthink things and create dumb scenarios in my head when i am bored. 😂😂😂 But to be fair, it is an interesting thought, to wonder if either Mortanius or Moebius knew what the other was up to and if any of the moves they made were in response to or back-up plans against the other.
i have aquestion about kain: the design of the elder kain reminds me a bit of the hylden. even the mutations and the devolution of the vampires he has created reminds me more of demons and hylden than vampires. and if my memories do not fail me, kain destroyed the mass in BO2 by poisening it with his blood which was mixed with the hylden blood of the creator of the device. so could it be, that kain's and his vampire's mutations come from the hylden blood within kain?
There's a similarity but it's not related. Kain's design is purely based on his own hubris, how he sees himself as a god. The hylden did not exist when DCab designed Elder Kain's visage.
@@RainaAudron even though only coinsidential, the similarity is interestning. is my memory right with kains blood mixed with the blood of the builder of the device? i can not remember excactly. if the story would progress one day, this could be something, to build upon. also the hybrid origin of the seer could be something to build upon for a potential, partialy, redemtion for the hylden.

Oh good, I love Mortanius and I was just talking about him. I'm going to enjoy this!
There is so much lore, the fact there isn't an official remaster taking into account all retcons and giving us a divinitive story line is a crime.
a Remaster would be a bit iffy but appreciated

Love these lore vids & keep up the good work 🙌! So soothing to listen to while winding down, yet so interesting 😉.
