The feeling you must get from driving a car you designed and just happens to be a legend and is only going up in value must be an indescribable feeling of accomplishment
I can't believe he sold it. I don't think I would ever be able to part ways with a supercar that I designed. There's not many people that can say they designed a supercar that made it to the street.
Camilo's been a friend since 1986 when I started at Ford as a design intern. His parties are/were legendary! He was ALWAYS willing to help younger designers and I'm grateful for all the demo's he did for us. I was actually working directly for and with Camilo when he left Ford in 2008. Sad day. He was a very good design manager (contrary to what some may say). He got things done and was brilliantly talented. I hope for his continued prosperity.
This is one of the best videos I´ve watched in my entire life. No words can describe how much I love my GT and this very gentleman in the video is our Hero.
the car camilo designed for himself is definitely the coolest ford gt I've seen. that is a super talented man living the dream. I can't afford one of his cars but by the looks of them I'd love to have one of his paintings hanging on my wall.
I'm currently a sophomore at CCS pursuing car design with a fine arts minor... And let me tell you, meeting this guy on a few occasions and listening to him and his GT in real life was a dream come true.
Thanks. Looked it up on the website & it states having a bachelors in design or a related field as a prerequisite. By "related field", I'm guessing it would still need to be something to do with design or art rather than an engineering discipline.
Rasta Fari no, that's incorrect. There are a handful of people here who are pursuing either a bachelors or a masters for transportation design and they already have an engineering degree.
I had the pleasure to meet Camilo two weeks ago (I formally attended Art Center College of Design), he was one of the judges of this sketch battle (Middlecott Sketch Battle) that I was involved with! He's such a cool guy and has inspired me for over a decade now so I was very excited to officially meet him in person! 😁
This video was so incredibly inspiring I cannot even put into words. This guy living the dream really helps envision mine. Congratulations to both Camilo and Petrolicious!
Funny thing, Camilo is color blind! He works great with color but I remember him pulling pastels out at work and asking me if they were green or blue. There's lots of funny stories about him. One day back in the 80's he came to work with an all black watch with a black face and black hands. I asked him how he saw the hands. He said " Dude, it's good, I've got it memorized"
Eric Broadley, who designed the original Ford GT 40, came up with an incredible design, that looked nothing like his other designs, like the Lola GT. The car has so many unique design features, the the doors cutting way into the roof, or the fact that the roof was incredibly flat. Then you have the contrast between the relatively flat front fenders and the nicely arched rear fender line. The gentle but progressive indent line leading to the side scoops. The nice kick-up to the rear. The car was a winner and always will be.
Another day Jack Telnak (VP of design and a pretty cool guy but very formal) was walking through the studio late at night and sees Camilo working away. Telnak says "they're working you pretty late Camilo". Camilo responds "yeah dude they've got overtime confused with all-the-time"
I think when you work on your DREAM PROJECT time is irrelevant, thank you for sharing, and thanks to Camilo because thanks to his passion he made it possible
One day Camilo was wearing a tuxedo t-shirt. Jack Telnak was walking past him and said "nice of you to dress up today Camilo" Camilo answered " yeah man, I'm working in Lincoln Studio now so I gotta look the part".
I'm just glad an artist got to hold his dream in his hands and be satisfied with his work that does not happen with artists , i know first hand . We are never enthused with anything we create after it is done .
I‘m in my last year at school, and in a few years I want to enrol at one of Europe’s leading universities for industrial design, and this video has really stayed with me because it tells me a bit more about my dream job. It is also a great inspiration to see the man, who designed one of America’s most beautiful sportscars, working and creating art.
Camilo managed to take a then 40 year old car and modernize it without completely changing the look of it. Just like Porsche does with the 911, they do an evolution with every generation. Ford did not do that with the 2016-2017 GT. They completely changed everything from the original 1960's cars, and that is why I believe it will not become as legendary or as valuable (even with the lower production numbers) as the 2005-06 Ford GT will become.
Yes, yes and YEESSSS! Since seeing my first orginal GT40 and then enjoying the occasional one pass by here in Sydney it has been true love for me. This is yet another fabulous video giving us mere mortals access to the people behind these amazing machines and an engaging immersion in them too - their form, their sound etc. Thank you once again Petrolicious - wonderfully inspiring stuff. Cheers from Aust - Dave
Although I am a 100% Alfa Romeo fan, the Ford GT will always be in my top 10 favourite cars! This car looks awesome and sounds even better! Great video!
One of the very best videos you've produced! I've been a Porsche guy for many years, but there's just "something" about the Ford GT that stops me in my tracks. Great car..........wonderful video!
Another outstanding visual production from Petrolious to the high standard we have come to expect but this one will go down as one of my favorites, great combination of dream car combined with such an epic story, jurno's dream find.
Thanks Camilo, for sharing your professional journey. I have 2 pieces of art, signed by you. I'm glad I have them. One day, I hope to have/buy a Ford GT - 2005. Thanks,
Had the honour of seeing this man pull up and park this amazing vehicle in person. If only I had known who he was and the true gravity of that moment. Nonetheless I was just a security guard and I've kept a very close eye on this car lol.
So awesome! I have always loved this car. Awesome guy and story from the inside too. Ford is such an epic company. And Petrolicious. Productions are so good!
To hell with the negative vibes here! Great video, better cars and a real talented guy who deserves it! More power to you Camilo, you are living my dream! Looks like he earned his money hard work and talent. By the way they all look great but number 6, the last one kicks ass!
Amazing video, Camilo has done some inspiring work. I LOVED the painting coverage as well, always neat seeing that in progress. Also, what camera did yall use to snag the cover shot?
I like that he has the US flags properly positioned on the fenders. Both of them in the "moving forward" direction. A small detail that is appreciated by a vet or patriot.
That's true. It's pretty much identical in design & shares the same silhouette of the GT40 & Lola GTs. However Camilo's GT is beautifully proportioned & it would have been quite a challenge to revamp the car to look so similar to the originals but at the same time comply with the numerous modern regulations.
Except it doesn't. Put the two cars side by side and they are drastically different. There are certainly similarities when you view each by itself. But the size alone makes they significantly different. Plus the new one had to pass safety, the original did not.
A very interesting article, hasn't quite convinced me about the car though. I love the original race car, I can't quite fall in love with the modern road version. Whenever I look at it part of me wants it to be less well finished, more stripped out, rough-edged and uncompromising, more race car basically.
What I like about Camilo's design of the Ford GT is the fact that it is truly timeless. Even fifty years from now, the car will still look phenomenal.
Brian Smith in fact, the look and the shape of the GT 40 itself are timeless, and making the 2005 GT so similar to it was his greatest shot.
If only Lambo could have remake the Miura...
The feeling you must get from driving a car you designed and just happens to be a legend and is only going up in value must be an indescribable feeling of accomplishment
Yet to the very end he remains humble. I hope to be in that state of mind and success for a moment in my life.
I can't believe he sold it. I don't think I would ever be able to part ways with a supercar that I designed. There's not many people that can say they designed a supercar that made it to the street.

Why'd he leave Ford?
We have Jay Mays at the RCA working with us now, what a great guy!
HE WAS STONED ON LENO'S SHOW SO IT LOOKS LIKE THE PARTY NEVER ENDED.
@@MICHGO1 … really ? That says a lot about You.
I wonder if he’d be interested in designing another paint scheme for a 2005 Ford GT?
This is one of the best videos I´ve watched in my entire life.
No words can describe how much I love my GT and this very gentleman in the video is our Hero.
lucky
GTMeister haha its you
the car camilo designed for himself is definitely the coolest ford gt I've seen. that is a super talented man living the dream. I can't afford one of his cars but by the looks of them I'd love to have one of his paintings hanging on my wall.
I completely agree with you. Every inch of it was thought out, and every little detail is perfect. Damn, I want him to give me some tips!
Although I am a full-on Porsche fan...the Ford GT has a special place in my heart.
TheSlashfan21 In everyones heart.
Same here.
So true!
Yeah, I like beetles too
TheSlashfan21 I think it's the only "modern" American car that I like. And maybe the original Viper. :)
I'm currently a sophomore at CCS pursuing car design with a fine arts minor... And let me tell you, meeting this guy on a few occasions and listening to him and his GT in real life was a dream come true.
Are there any post graduate level programmes related to car design at CCS?
Rasta Fari yes, there is a masters for transportation design here at CCS and it's a two year program
Thanks. Looked it up on the website & it states having a bachelors in design or a related field as a prerequisite. By "related field", I'm guessing it would still need to be something to do with design or art rather than an engineering discipline.

I'm from Detroit and have hung out with Camilo on a number of occasions. He's an awesome guy with a lot of creativity. What up Camilo!?
He clearly does not think much of you as he did not respond lol
Funny thing, Camilo is color blind! He works great with color but I remember him pulling pastels out at work and asking me if they were green or blue. There's lots of funny stories about him. One day back in the 80's he came to work with an all black watch with a black face and black hands. I asked him how he saw the hands. He said " Dude, it's good, I've got it memorized"
*speechless*
colour blind people, have trouble with red and green, not green and blue

I love that the key fob is the same as my 2000 Ford F250!! Great car, great video.
Not only are his cars' paint jobs cool, but his automotive paintings are pretty awesome, too. Would love to see more of that.
By far the most beautiful car in automobile history.
timeless design. proportions and lines are perfect
What a good story! I'm always happy to see a car transition from concept to life.
I'm just glad an artist got to hold his dream in his hands and be satisfied with his work that does not happen with artists , i know first hand . We are never enthused with anything we create after it is done .

By 6:00 when that electronic music kicks in and the cuts accelerate... man, what a stunning melding of media
I can watch this video again and again and again.... so good.... thx
Amazing designs for the most amazing Ford!!!!
I will always love this car: the shape, the sound...
That blue and white one is my favorite. Just Spectacular!
Thank you for this wonderful short film and capturing that glorious therapeutic sound.
Nunca e visto una pintura tan más realmente plasmada como yo la visualizo en mi mente y mejor si es de un auto de carreras eres el mejor
As an aspiring automotive engineer, I too hope to see a project as epic as a Ford GT go full circle. Thanks for sharing!
Finally, back to the good stuff

This was definitely one of my favorite petrolicious films yet. Awesome story accompanied by a powerful and iconic car. GREAT episode!
Extremely satisfying and enchanting video! Thank you Camilo! Great post work with the picture and sound
Pardo your design looks fantastic; that's the nicest GT color scheme I've seen yet.
Back in mid 2000s a ford dealer down the hill from my high school had like 5 of these. Every few days you see them zipping bye. Good memories.
I saw this car at a gas station today going towards lake Las Vegas. Absolutely stunning.
That was me bloke....Nigel Knickerdropper, #KnickerdropperNation
Thanks Camilo and Petrolicious - this is what it's all about
One of the best episodes so far! Keep it up guys!
Yes, yes and YEESSSS! Since seeing my first orginal GT40 and then enjoying the occasional one pass by here in Sydney it has been true love for me. A very talented artist and a really exciting car. The cinematography is astounding. Thank you for presenting this.
That one was definitely his best. Love the color scheme.
Great video. Just shows how much effort is put in to making the design a reality.
This video is stunning.
Oh hi mumbo
When you get to the top of the list of American innovative design inspires repeat greatness. The FORD GT arrives again and again!!!!
Although I am a 100% Alfa Romeo fan, the Ford GT will always be in my top 10 favourite cars! This car looks awesome and sounds even better! Great video!
I came from Jay Lenos garage and already loving the channel
I love how it has the same key fob as my E250 work van.
Continue what your doing dude, some guys have all the little, I respect style for these incredible machines!!!
One of the very best videos you've produced! I've been a Porsche guy for many years, but there's just "something" about the Ford GT that stops me in my tracks. Great car..........wonderful video!
I am a truck fan drive a Power Wagon 2017 but man oh man! The 2005 - 2006 Ford GT is to one of the sexiest sports cars of all time hands down.
We, the people, need 7:48 minutes of raw canyon footage of the GT.
Another outstanding visual production from Petrolious to the high standard we have come to expect but this one will go down as one of my favorites, great combination of dream car combined with such an epic story, jurno's dream find.
Fantastic story and great interview with some who helped redesign a legend.
Thanks Camilo, for sharing your professional journey. I have 2 pieces of art, signed by you. I'm glad I have them. One day, I hope to have/buy a Ford GT - 2005. Thanks,
What a beautiful machine and livery.
Thank you, amazing video. One of your best.
Bravo! Fantastic video! 🤘🏁👏
Best Petrolicious movie yet. Nice work
Had the honour of seeing this man pull up and park this amazing vehicle in person. If only I had known who he was and the true gravity of that moment. Nonetheless I was just a security guard and I've kept a very close eye on this car lol.
Another excellent video. Keep up the great work! Beautiful Ford GT as well. One amazing car.

Inspirational stuff, great job Camilo on the car design!
Everything is beautiful here. The cars, the paints, the video editing and the awesome colors! Nice work :o

THANK U CAMILO!!!
These paint jobs have me falling in love with the car all over again
So awesome! I have always loved this car. Awesome guy and story from the inside too. Ford is such an epic company. And Petrolicious. Productions are so good!
Camilo, isn't that your black 930 on cinder blocks at the side of I94 in Detroit? I think it's been there for a week.
"Yeah dude, it broke".
RAF71chingachgook Really enjoying you stories mate
What a fantastic video, truly well made
Well made video. Loved it so much I watched it twice.
I m not a Ford guy but that Ford gt is definitely one of the most beautiful cars ever made.... To my eyes much better looking than the new one!!
This guy was on that show that designed and built cars
MrThekingofcod6 that's where he's from! I was like this guy looks so familiar haha
you mean Mega Factory?
Motor City Masters. It was a great show.
To hell with the negative vibes here! Great video, better cars and a real talented guy who deserves it! More power to you Camilo, you are living my dream! Looks like he earned his money hard work and talent. By the way they all look great but number 6, the last one kicks ass!
Absolutely phenomenal!
3 things, this is one cool car designer. epic car and petrolicious has to be best car chanel ever.🚗🚖🚘🚙🚐🚚
petrolicous for the win, best channel on youtube
This is inspiring to say the least. Wow!
That was pretty inspiring! The Ford GT is my dream car
this video made me say "Please, show that car again", at the end, ever for the first time.
My favorite sports car ever
Drop dead gorgeous
Beautiful car, sound really good and you worked on it from the get go, that must be amazing to drive one. Good for you.
Your stuff is always top notch.
Awesome video , love the Ford GT and GT40
i saw the car and i just had to hit like that thing is beautiful
This was a FANTASTIC episode. Solid story and visuals.
Genius guy! Hats off
Man that car looks killer number7
Amazing video, Camilo has done some inspiring work. I LOVED the painting coverage as well, always neat seeing that in progress.
Also, what camera did yall use to snag the cover shot?
I like that he has the US flags properly positioned on the fenders. Both of them in the "moving forward" direction. A small detail that is appreciated by a vet or patriot.
He's living the dream of every car guy
Love the paint job.
That’s awesome! Dearborn!!!
A lot of talent and a little bit of luck, what an awesome film
Love the ROE reference!
Awesome video. Perfect !
That thing is so beautiful.
It's just a remake after all, not too much "design" involved. Kudos to the original designers from the 60s.
Redesigning a classic often comes with more pressure, as you will get a lot of crap for screwing up. I think he did a good job.
Diarmuid Marsden absolutely.
That's true. It's pretty much identical in design & shares the same silhouette of the GT40 & Lola GTs. Stuka87 design has nothing to do with safety, that's the engineers job if you didn't know.
Ford GT is one of my favorite dream cars.

This guy has some talent
