Honestly, I think the three of them deserved better. When SWD choked SQX, it broke my heart so bad. Not because I hated SWD but because I know he did that for SQX's sake. So that SQX won't have to live with the guilt of killing his own brother nor that SWD have to change his brother's fate again. SPOILERS. I blame Jun Wu. He didn’t like how powerful the Water Master was getting so threw him to Black Water. Now, Shi Wudu did a TERRIBLE thing to He Xuan, and I don’t blame him. But THIS IS SO TRAGIC!!! 😭 SQX deserved so much better. He is the sweetest.
Came here to be hit in the feels and was not disappointed. Shi Qing Xuan and He Xuan deserved so much better. I do believe He Xuan really grew to care for Shi Qing Xuan and ultimately didn't want to hurt him, but he got caught in the cross fire where pain and frustration boiled over and by the end both parties were left with the short end of the stick. They both lost a friend, and one lost their brother. Now they're both stuck living in a world of what if's and why's. Questions they'll never get answers to.
If beefleaf is the main couple in tgcf, I'm sure their story won't just ended like that. And based on mxtx's other novels, she like a happy ending so stop crying my friends. If the story about beefleaf were to continue I'm sure they are going to end happily🥰

Only, it's a bl story (boys love, y'know, like yaoi, but there's nothing explicit in HOB, actually more shounen ai) so if you're not comfortable with that then it may be best to wait for the donghua (anime) to come out as knowing China they'll probably censor all the gay and make the couple's relationship one between 'sworn brothers' or some shit.
