Glad the calf had a happy ending. We had a calf whos mother died giving birth we bottle feed him til he was able to eat grass hay and cattle feed. He weigh about 1600 hundred pounds. Just a big pet he lived 24 years before he died.
If we never learn anything else from you,Justin, the simple statement you made about not saying , “ I can’t” and turning it into, “How can I?” Is enough. That...in and of itself is a LIFE LESSON. Thank you.
I am tickled to death for you. I know there was a lot of stress worrying about Flossy adopting the calf. It is so good to see her licking and talking to her calf. Now let the good times roll.
One thing my 3 year old does right now is add the phrase " for everyone" at the end of everything we do right now. Example: " you're making dinner mama? dinner for everyone?!" So I get a huge kick out of that shirt! "PIGS FOR EVERYONE!" LOL
Glad to see her finally take the calf. One of our calves was too weak to nurse. He was too weak to stand up. One person would hold him up and the other person would take his mouth to her teet. It was backbreaking for the person holding the calf. So we made a big sling out of a sweatshirt that had been cut down the center put his front legs into it and it really helped a lot. After a week of doing that the calf was good to go. But several people in the family wanted to quit after the second day but I said no way we got to keep at it. Stubbornness is a good thing on the farm to have. Congratulations!
Fantastic! When she licked her lips she was telling you to speed up with her treat for being so good. They are so much smarter and communicative than people realize.
Use a lever for such heavy lifts, you dont want to get a hernia. I am overjoyed with the news that Flossy adopting the calf. Loved hearing the momma bellow. I think it just tooksome time for Flossy.
Congrats. I am so happy for the little calf that wouldn't give up! Momma finally gave in, and you can really tell when she was licking the calf while laying down. Yes Snowball will always have that nick name now! Maple is a cute name for the calf also.
Congrats on pushing through and waiting miss stubborn out. It's always a gamble dealing with animals. They definitely have minds of their own. Also, I know this doesn't help you now but... While you were talking about the shirt reorder, your fly was open.

Awwww, Flossie loves the calf. It just took her a little while to know it, that's all. 💚💚💚💚💚
Thankyou for sharing this with us! I am not gonna lie... I totally cried and felt like some how I was a part of that moment. Thanks so so much! I'm so glad this worked out for you. We've been praying for Flossy!
Justin I must say you have been committed and determined to make this possible and I thank you for continuing to allow us into your life during there difficult times. Bravo.
When I was a boy, my Grandfather skinned the dead calf and he put the dead calf skin on the adoptive calf to create the smell on the adoptive calf. I NEVER done this procedure, I was just a little boy. So this procedure helps the cow bond with the adoptive calf by the smell of the dead one. I don't know the fine details because I was just a little boy, may be some of you can share your experiences to fill in those fine details, I'm curious.
Like the organisation on the logs . I am so pleased she finally accepted her what a weight off your shoulders, much love to you all from England what a great thing to be thankful for x
Oh my goodness I saw the title and clicked so fast. So hopeful, I'm so invested in your whole family and all the animals. All the best for you guys! Persistence is key x
So amazing! So glad you persevered! and excited to be the first comment. Love you and your family! I really wish we lived on a homestead but we live in town. I grow a big garden and can/freeze a ton of meals. Just bought a half a hog from a local farmer. Take care!
Thank you Justin and Rhodes' family for sharing this wonderful video. Very moving and poignant for me. I am a retired woman in a large city and could only imagine farm and family life, thanks to you I can see that the beauty is real. Watching Flossy nurse and lick her calf moved me to happy tears.
You persevered in your plan despite all the negative feedback you received, and SUCCESS! I rarely comment on your videos but smiled ear to ear in excitement for you and Flossie taking to the calf! Congrats!
Yayyyy!!! That is so fantastic! Now you will have another milk cow to boot! That is a safer way to go... because stuff just happens on farms sometimes. I am so happy your loss turned into a big win.
PRAISE JESUS!!! I am so relieved!!! Flossie adopted Maple♡♡♡ HALLELUJAH SWEET JESUS ♡♡♡ CONGRATULATIONS!!! GOD BLESS EVERYONE ♡♡♡ We Love y'all so very much ♡♡♡
Justin, move your cable connection to the cow milking shed to the runners. Then when you pull it Betsy will raise the front of the runners enough to make clearance easier. When I was a kid on the farm we had hay drags to load and haul hay bales to the barn. Basically a flat wood platform with wood runners and the cable attached to the runners.
I had my oldest daughter watchin with me to see the calf nursing and you happen to show her fav taco bell menu item that doesn't exist anymore...ugh! We make our own too sometimes. :)
My Grandpa used to say, "Can't never could do nothin, you make it happen."
That's fun. I say to the kids all the time, "can't never could and could did it all."
Glad the calf had a happy ending. We had a calf whos mother died giving birth we bottle feed him til he was able to eat grass hay and cattle feed. He weigh about 1600 hundred pounds. Just a big pet he lived 24 years before he died.
I love the name Maple for the young calf. I was so afraid for her, but all's well that ends well.
14:39 now how precious is that, just licking away on her baby, it's hers now :)
You know it’s a good day when Justin says “call the inquirer”

So glad to see Flossie accept motherhood to the calf! Congratulations for persevering. The calf deserves a name fitting her struggle.

Yay Flossie! How could you not love that calf, she’s so cute.
Justin, if you took the flame weeder to scorch the wood exterior that are laying on the ground it would help preserve it. Without chemicals.

Fantastic! When she licked her lips she was telling you to speed up with her treat for being so good. They are so much smarter and communicative than people realize.

Justin I must say you have been committed and determined to make this possible and I thank you for continuing to allow us into your life during there difficult times. Bravo.
Makes me wonder if it made it just hard because of grief for Flossie. Also women go through so many hormone flex actions maybe cows do too. Bless her
