Ian Hickling 1963 - 2023 I was saddened to hear the passing of Ian Hickling a true giant in the initial stages of bringing Lancaster NX611 "Just Jane" back to life, along with Roy Jarman the 'Dynamic Duo' worked their magic often in freezing conditions, their mission to hear once again the sound of a LIVE Lancaster reverberating around the old RAF airfield at East Kirkby. Anyone who has ever watched parts 1, 2 & 3 of Primetimes excellent video presentations 'Two Farmers & A Lancaster', 'Operation Lancaster' and 'Just Jane' will know only too well how much the whole project owes to both men and what a fitting tribute it would be now to have both their names painted discreetly on the Lancaster, maybe on the side of the cockpit just under the flight engineers position or on a Merlin engine cowl, pretty much perfect that l would say, wouldn't you? R.I.P Ian
Another great video, and I for one love the nerdy stuff about the lifting gear for the wing removal. "A picture (or video in this case) being worth a thousand words"
When you look up into the nose and the wing of Jane, you realise just what a complex beast we were capable of making back in the 1940’s. Astonishing. Thanks for keeping us up to date.
Yes and, but, back then, from scratch to up in the air combat ready in weeks... The efforts, continually stymied by 'the Ministry', to get JJ off the grass has taken nearly 3 decades.
Nev i was saddened to hear the loss of Ian,like Roy he always found time for a chat.We owe both these guys a lot in getting this wonderful project started.RIP Ian and Roy. Once again Nev thankyou for your latest video and all the trips you have made to E/K over the year its great to see how things are coming along. May i take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Take care and thanks again.
Blimey Neville , that flew past ! ...pun intended ! So much going on but what a nuisance with the "soft "alloy reaction !!! Obviously not the restoration teams fault but delays you could do without ... Neville , Please pass on my best wishes to you and all the team for a wonderful Christmas and productive 2024 .....2024 !!!!! Cripes Neville , where does rhe time go !!!! 💕
My ten year old son just walked past and said its a Neville video isn't it, The back ground sounds are unmistakable , Thanks for making these videos Neville future generations will bless you and the team, have a great Crimbo and New Year, Best wishes Sisaket Thailand.
Neville, just got around to watching part 1 & 2 update of the project, by Andy. Thank you so much for filming this. Really interesting. And having followed your videos since I think number 11, I cannot believe just how much has been done in relatively few years. Your videos are wonderful!! You pay tribute to a wonderful aircraft, but also to the engineers, and apprentice, working on it. The skills are just amazing! I’d like to wish You and your family, a very Happy Christmas and a good 2024. It would be lovely if you could pass on my wishes also to the team. Im sure I’m not the only one. All the best, Neville!! And thank you.
Can't wait for the nose coming off and all the planning to make the aircraft safe for just this item. Thanks Neville keeping us updated with real insight of details that make up this project so interesting.
Thank you Neville, another amazing insight into the fabulous work being carried out by this dedicated restoration Team. You certainly get the feeling that the project is surging ahead, which is fantastic. Season’s Greetings to one and all. x
Great video. I haven’t been to East Kirkby since 2003 it’s amazing how things have come since then, plan to get back there early in the New Year for a long overdue visit! Keep up the good work Neville as it’s much appreciated.
Thank you Neville for your years work. Merry Christman and a great new year to you and your family. I am looking forward to watching the progress in 2024 from down under.
Great update, Neville, I am following this restoration project with much interest. I have been a Lancaster enthousiast for years, that started with interest in the Dambuster-version of this aircraft. I have built a scale 1:32 model of this version, It is still safely put away for the time being, because my home is being renovated. When that is finished, I will place the model in its own display case, which also acts as a table. I came about this restoration project, when I was looking for other videos of Lancaster airplanes. You are doing a very good job in making these video-updates. I ope, You can keep going on until the work will be finished. Compliments. By the way: Merry Christmas to you, friends and family and all, working on this project,
Another great update Neville! Thanks for keeping us informed for another year, looking forward to next year! All the best for Christmas and the New Year!
Another great update bro so thanks for that and yes all the very best over the silly season to you too. Forecast 27 here today and tomorrow, that's 7c to hot for me. Safe travels. Ken. 🎄
Nev, wishing you and all the brilliant guys and gals at East Kirkby a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year. You do a fantastic job with these video's it's very much appreciated. All the very best, Terry.
Happy Christmas and happy new year Neville & the restoration Team Thank you Neville for your cracking videos and thank you the restoration team for taking the time to explain what they've been up to.
Thank you for the update Neville. I hope they let you know when they are going to swap the wing as I'd like to see that jig in action as I think Andrew said it was what they used during the war.
Very merry Christmas to you and your family, and all the best for the new year. Thanks again for all the effort you put into going to East Kirby, filming and interviewing the team, and editing these videos for us, and for posterity.
Thanks for the update Neville. Great work by all the gang there at the centre. Bet they are all ready for their well earned Christmas break. Thank you for all the videos you have uploaded for us all to enjoy this year again Neville. It really is appreciated all the time and effort you have put into producing them and through them allowing us to follow the restoration up close week after week. Wishing you, your family and everyone at the centre a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Take care.👍
The standard wartime bombsight fitted to the Lancaster was the British Mk XIV, but due to lack of manufacturing capacity the US was asked to mass-produce them. They created the T1 bombsight (sighting head and computer), which is interchangeable with the Mk XIV, although internally different.
Great update Neville as per usual, thank you. Things are certainly moving on a pace. Chris's update was very interesting in the preparation for Jane to be placed in such an position for removal and replacement of the nose and wing section. Will the fuselage rear section be ready in time for it to be fitted to Jane this time round? Season’s Greetings Neville and to all the Team.
I knew I'd seen those wing gantries before, Neville! Had a quick look through my old copy of "Silksheen" by Geoff Copeman, and there they are. 🙂 Another great report from the frontline. The team are great! Best wishes to you all.
G'day Neville, how are you? just a quick question at 15:29, is that a Marstrand anti-shimmy tail wheel /tyre fitted to wartime Lancaster's in the box against the wall?
I've posted before, but I'll ask again: Back in 98 the Rivets Appeal was up n running, with aim to get her off the grass. Then the Ministry intervened and scuppered efforts... Why? This Lancaster has been pulled apart and put together again that many times. She'll be sounder than the BBMF example.

I will pass on that one Tim.

This Lancaster has been pulled apart and put together again that many times. She'll be sounder than the BBMF example.
Sorry mate I can't answer your question, I just don't no , before my time.
Please put the Union Flag at the end of the hangar up the right way or people might think you are in distress !!!
Hi Lyndsay, it is the correct way, the broad White stripe at the top of the flagpole the eyelets are on the left so that's the flag pole side.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you all.
Cheers cmg.
