Since I never explored 5-1 very thoroughly myself, I decided to look it up. Apparently, there's a pipe you can fly into right above the start that leads to a secret area where you can get a music box out of a chest, but there's also a pipe leading out into the middle where you can get 4 1-ups and fly to hit a P-switch that makes two big coin formations appear, which are shaped like 3's.
