....except for the heavy sand, I did the rest in a 2 wheel drive 1973 VW Westie Camper in the winter of '75. Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.....and drove to Moscow, too.
Bought the Westie in San Mateo, CA...to NY...across the Atlantic on the FRANCE, the channel by Hovercraft ....then to Moscow....back to Sicily, across to Tunis....and on we went, as I said.
GREAT ADVENTURE...just me and the wife ! We were gone from The States for 2 1/2 years !

Brilliant.. Just saw this video. Well its great to see that there is more than one person out there, that's almost as nutty as myself.... Thanks for the practical advice, experience, ans last but by no means least, a sense of humour
... :) Best of luck to you both in your adventures.

Clive Webb - I read your points with interest Clive. Other followers may be interested to learn that the old 'Fireball Deathtrap' Carawagon has taken me to Libya five times and most of the European Countries in the intervening 16 years. Next year I am heading for the Balkan States and maybe some Island hopping around Greece. I have changed nothing except the clutch. I would argue that it is a case of knowing one's truck. . Been anywhere yourself Clive? I see no posts. Maybe an armchair adventurer.......

Bit interested in the ‘fireball death trap’, looks to be a hybrid between an earlier Series LR and a later 110? Still looks very capable and good to see it being used as it was intended be!

I can answer for @tobysavage; yes his old Carawagon is still going strong.

The days before traction control and hill descent, how did people manage on the school run? Proper travel in proper trucks, excellent! ;-)
