Thank you Casual Chuck sa pag himay himay ng mga detalye , lalo na yung similarities ng sounds and melody ng kpop sa western song and yan ung naiisip ko noon pa, and sa list na yan, mas marami pa akong naririnig ng songs ng kpop music na similar ang melody sa western and walang nag rereklamo.
Pag sinabi kasi nila na OPM mellow sounds lang ba dapt like noon? Anong identity sinasabi nila, ehh halos lahat ng songs namn may pinang gagalinagan. Mahirap pag close minded and mataas ang ego.

Rey Valera music is a thing in the past. Not all famous artists are open and know different music genres. He is just trying to protect his ego na ang totoo wala talaga siyang alam at hindi niya kayang aminin yun. Kaya nga dito sa Pinas network companies must also change their programs para naman ma showcase yung mga bago at magaganda

For me their song Mapa is masterclass. The lyrics and melody of this song is soooo beautiful. They give more than a 100% after each and every performance. I think no other Filipino artist is as versatile as they are. Salute to these boys.

An old saying goes: "You cannot teach old dogs new tricks." Some seniors of OPM who lived and breathed the old pattern of music for the longest time have this attitude towards PPOP. But would you believe that Ms. Regine Velasquez-Alcasid said something different when she was a guest performer in SB19's previous homecoming concert? She said, "Kaming mga OPM artist... yung matagal-tagal na sa industriya... We are so proud of you [SB19]...(We OPM artists... those who have been in the industry for a long time...We are so proud of you..,). So, not all seniors of OPM have similar thinking as Mr. Rey Valera. And I think there is hope with OPM as long the new generation of Filipinos today appreciates what we have, thanks to SB19, Alamat, Bini, G22, PHP, and many more. PPOP rise!

IMO as a 30+ year old millennial, the problem with Filipinos is when we hear foreign songs, specifically, western songs, we automatically consider it as superior like how we proudly use the word "imported" to all foreign products. But in terms of our own music, we are super critical.
We are always looking for identity pero panay pakikinig naman tayo sa western or foreign songs.
Proud na proud pa nga tayo to enumerate the foreign bands or singers that we know of pagtinatanong tayo kasi "may class" kasi ang tunog.
The OPM is not just confined in ballads or acoustics. We can be upbeat. We can be everything.
My new Era na ang OPM. Classic songs will always be there and be admired pero our supremacist view of classic OPM should not give us a license to limit the creativity of our new generation.
Mag explore tayo more sa ating sariling sining at kultura.

I grew up listening to Gloc9 and many more. Just my opinion lang naman po ✌️

This breaks my heart.. I literally left KPOP fandom when I first saw Stell on Disneyplus singing. I got so intrigued by this guy when I saw the live chat talking about SB19. That was the first time I heard about this group-- and it literally changed my perspective. I only stanned 2 kpop groups which started with BIGBANG (I was crazy about them!) and since they disbanded, I never listened to any Kpop songs, or Korean songs in general, not until ENHYPEN. My interest was awakened by them and I was like the same as before-- so into this group and became ENGENE immediately. I was never interested in any PPOP artists/songs, never even heard about them. But......that night seeing Stell, I googled SB19, and tried to listen to two of their songs, they were WHAT, and forgot the other.. didn't even last a minute and I was like, "eh, I don't like the songs, too strong and noisy for my liking".. went back to my EN boys.. but then, I got curious when I saw this thumbnail on ToniTalks, I wasn't doing anything at the time so I was like ok, why not watch this. You know how touching and real the boys' stories were! I relate to some of them and was touched by Josh' story especially. That made me stan them so I started watching their music videos and funny series-- guess what, it made me laugh so hard, I admire them even more every day!!! I canceled everything from being an Engene and immediately became an A'tin! I love these boys! I never listened to any kpop songs ever since knowing SB19. I even recruited my family to stan them haha.. I'm so proud of these boys. They deserve the success and happiness they have now. Haters will hate, it's really disheartening to see OPM artists look down on them. People supported their careers, but they can't do the same to their co-artists? What a shame. Crab mentality spotted. This is what's toxic about Filipinos in general. Why not be happy when others are successful in pursuing their dreams?!

Hehehehe I dont know any Kpop group until Sandara join in and only like her group because obviously she
Is harness in Philippines but one know 1 of their song. then come bts coz of my sister but i couldnt and never got into any of their song except The one w/ Puth and Coldstone but also because the song fits for my crush at work. Their other song I cant feel nor fit it in my heart and brain, tried to but it goes to the drain all the time. Then last June unexpectedly I love watching reactions about Philippines I followed across Chuck here and Luna&Sol the twin Dominicans who move in Philippines and went to Zamboanga. Out if nowhere a Dominican friend of the twins reaction abt Gento pop up in my yt.thus I started to Learn about SB19 and search and followed SB19 & everyone who are A’tins. Still at large joining A’tins clips and videos abt our Mahalima. I agree Filipinos should support fellow Pilipino not bashing and being toxic if they have that talent, ang ibang artist they toxify para maka sakay sa more sikat na group. Obviously that what this girl bash SB19 and since LAOS na si Rey Valera, takot na totally malaglag sa listahan ayan nang bash para sasakay sa popularity ng SB19, waaa that wont work anymore nowaday coz of social media and people are more aware and not limited by few news magazine and channels that usually manipuiated who to hype and who to uplift. I guess naiwan pa ng train tong mga bashers.

That's rich coming from someone who have not even released an original song! I am an aspiring songwriter and as aged as I am, I can't help but be amazed with Pablo's ingenuity, innovation, and originality in songwriting and producing. Even legit producers say that! It is so evident these artists have not even the slightest idea of what PPOP is. They could have simply been honest and say, I haven't listened to all their songs really, and my taste is different, rather than spouting non-sense. Nagmukha tuloy silang mangmang.

Can anyone see any trace of KPOP in Mapa? or What? Geez! Kung ako yung interviewer, I would ask, which PPOP song have you listened to in full? It looks like he's referring to other genre not PPOP sa complex arrangements imposible ponf 4chords lang. At sir! Clearly you have been living under a rock not to recognize legendary songs with only 4 chords such as Let it Be by Beatles and What's up? by 4-Non-Blondes! Music is not all about the simplicity or complexity of the arrangement - it is about the emotion being traversed between the performer and the audience! It can be a 4 syllable song but if the performer was able to evoke strong emotions to the audience, that is more powerful than a grand composition! That's how SB19 affect us, because their music represents them, and thus represents us...

At Least SB19 is Using its Own 🎵🎶 to Promote the 🇵🇭 Culture to the Rest of the 🌐. (In Order to Change Others' Mindset & Impression About Both the Country of 🇵🇭 and the Whole SEA Subcontinent.) Unlike That All-Japanese, 🇬🇧-Singing Global 👧 Group Who Wanted to Almost Fully Associate Itself with K-Pop by Being Based in 🇰🇷 at the Moment. (Along with Actually Being Trained & Managed by a Once-Famous 🇯🇵 J-Pop Company Instead of an Actual 🇰🇷 K-Pop Company.)
While It's Ok to Have Non-Korean Asian Pop 🎵🎶 Groups Being K-Pop Inspired in Terms of Music-Wise, It's NOT OK for Such Groups to Compete with Actual K-Pop Groups in an Indirect Manner. (By Being Based in 🇰🇷 to Both Use K-Pop Infrastructures Only for Gaining for International Popularity & Doing Everything Almost Similar to Actual K-Pop Groups.) On 1️⃣ Hand, Actual But Lesser-Known K-Pop Groups will Lose Even More Oppotunities to Showcase their Respective Talents to a Wider Range of Talents. On the Other Hand, Some of the Other Asian Pop 🎵🎶 Genres will Probably Lose the Importance of their Respective Existences.

This is one of the sad truth about us being a Filipino… We tend to choose and more accepting to other cultures than our own. Like me I only discovered SB19 because of the pandemic and if you don’t do any research you’ll not going to expose to this multiple talents we have in the Philippines.

And yes, you are right it's because we accept foreigners songs like international compared to our own. Which is one of the harsh reasons why I wasn't caught up on interest to them at first. They were only able to catch my attention when both pandemic and the MAPA era came, like its reasonable it's because of its song that gave me mixed emotions. And that's when I started to become an A'tin. I don't regret being late, but I do feel sorry though

An artist is only limited by his/her mindset. A true artist is able to appreciate and respect other kinds of art apart from his/her own. This video made me realize why the artists from before "PPOP" were being left behind by the global music industry. They are so set in their ways to the point that they do not educate themselves about other types of music. They cannot think outside the box, so they can't evolve and just remain stagnant. Even Michael Jackson and Madonna had to evolve to keep up with the times when they were active. It makes me think that it all stems from the Philippines' history of being colonized. It seems to me that detractors of PPOP are usually people who have a better opinion of other countries/nationalities over their own country/countrymen. They don't even expose themselves to these kinds of music, yet they speak about it as if they know what they are talking about. On the other hand, SB19 are open to experimentation, challenges the norm, and encourages their fans to think critically while at the same time being a role model that promotes hardwork, kindness, and humility. With the rise of PPOP, I hope more Filipinos will become more curious and motivated to educate themselves. We should learn to let go of negative traditions (e.g. crab mentality, colonial mentality, etc.) while keeping positive ones (e.g. filipino hospitality). Tradition is good and all, but a progressive mindset is necessary for progress. Like Einstein said, insanity is repeating the same process over and over while expecting a different result.

About Maria, my take is that there's nothing wrong naman if they chose foreign music, it's their personal choice. But to say something about PPOP needing more identity while admitting at the same time about only listening to foreign music, instant side eye. And about Rey Valera's comment about during their era where one cannot use same chords over and over again, where did that came from? I don't know any PPOP songs that uses the same chords in more than 1 song. The PPOP songs I've heard so far are all unique and very diverse. Then about Rachel's answers, I find it better and it was more on a positive note. Pero hirap ibreak ung barrier, di napapansin talga PPOP kc iniisip agad "ay gaya gaya yan sa KPOP" without even trying to listen to it first.

Back in college days, my group and I, chose to do a thesis focusing on the influence of Korean culture in the Philippines. We focused on the effects of Kdramas in everyday life of a Filipino. It was a part of what they call Kwave or Hallyu era
Filipinos were exposed to Kdramas and Kpop for a long period of time. Thus, most of us were conditioned to think of Korean thing whenever we see something/someone similar to Kpop.
I think it is an initial reaction to associate/compare PPop to KPop especially during the times when SB19 was just starting.
SB19 is brave enough to challenge the conditioned norm. "Sound Break" as their name says. They want to break into music scene using the Pop music. And it's happening now. They want to set a fine margin between KPop and Ppop.
Patawarin na po natin lahat ng hindi na-educate about the PPop music kasi un ung goal ng SB19 eh ipakilala ang PPop. SB19 is a MOVEMENT! they are not just a boy band. Unti-unti nakilala na ang Ppop. Awakening era na toh, PPop raisin!!😅😁

We can't blame the elderly, but yea. Can't they at least be more considerate before judging, kasi halos pinapahiya na nila sarili nila in front of us youngsters aka millennials who are fans of Ppop. Cuz they aren't even familiar nor know the reasons why Ppop is so different from OPM, it's because OPM is just ballad songs that doesn't have the combination of dancing whenever they perform, there may be rap songs, but I'm not even sure if it is still counted as OPM cuz it is mostly known as Hip Hop. While Ppop on the other hand has both different types of genres and can be used as a song for dancing because of its production and beats. They just don't know how to reconsider the difference between OPM and Ppop, and that's what's irritating about them😤

I enjoyed listening to Rey Valera's songs back in the late '80s, but the euphoria I feel with SB19 is unmatched. Their music resonates with me on a deeper emotional level. However, we shouldn't force SB19's music onto others. Perhaps one day, SB19 will achieve international recognition on a whole new scale, and these local artists will reminisce, would say something like, ''uy hala, the band has become incredibly famous and is winning international awards. In a recent visit to the Phil I tried to find piano music sheets of SB19 songs (didn’t find any) but realized that few in PH (even among younger people) appreciated or knew SB 19’s music. Is it because there are so many groups out there and local stations do not feature them?

Its not the song and the genre of the song anymore, but the overall build(I mean the brand) of the ppop. Their recent fashion and lyrics and overall structure of the song (gento) screams kpop. The marketing tactics are also patterned after kpop. Fashion designers who are also fans had pointed it out before that they need to brand distinctly to compete successfully with kpop as the dubbed "ppop kings" but I think the kpop culture are deeply ingrained in their craft that they cannot cut it off completely, which is sad as they were supposed to be the flag bearer of ppop.

Obviously, these people haven’t heard songs like What?, Mana, Aswang, etc. which definitely have unique sounds and are uniquely Filipino and sing about the Filipino experience and do not stick to basic pop sounds. While the comparison to Kpop is inevitable because they are the current pop sound worldwide, especially for boy or girl groups, it just means that Ppop still has a way to go and needs more exposure so that people will realize that it truly has a Filipino twist to the pop sound. And that even if doesn’t, it’s still OPM because it’s our own music and performers.

Their kind of songs vary, they can sing Pop, R&B, Wrap, etc...They can copy original songs as good or even better. They are honest guys who say they were tried by korean mentor when they started the discipline that is needed to get where every artist would like penetrate to the western world just like BTS whom our BS19 boys admire and whose songs they sung when they were starting to get recognized and when they were they used their own personal nationality and with pride they sing their hearts out. I somehow understand what the ladies were saying , I have been living in the west for almost two and a half decades now and indeed for almost everyone here it is difficult to differentiate jpop kpop ppop tpop and other asian pop with each other not unless you give time and interest of knowing them
by heart. I have tried introducing ppop groups to my british colleagues and automatically they say its kpop. K- pop is not fully accepted and played on the radio and tv stations here, even bts music. But don’t get me wrong the west is aware of the wave though. There is an enormous Army here and other K pop stans as you can see on how they fill up the stadiums during concerts. I think people here are not much of differentiating pop music from which countries they come from , if the group and music are good and properly introduced and marketed people will hear it , and if creates a good sound to their ears and vibe they will know and remember and be aware of it. The thing with this present pop music genre in groups today are the same they are more of the visuals and synchronised dance moves and breaks…. as an observer and someone who is hoping to see an artist from my mother land to really make it big in the international scene in my lifetime , i think it should start from my fellow Filipinos to fully support the artist , PH fans and stans should all work together and have a solid support to your group like those of sb19 and other ppop groups ( stream, buy their merchandise and support their concerts and all contents) even if they are still trying and are about to break the international scene. The PH pop groups needs a strong national based fans and followers who will help them be heard around the globe, when they release mv or music hear and listen to it ,stream it. And lastly, don’t create a fan war or barriers , raise all the ppop group first so it will be louder until the other world hears it . I am really hoping that one day a PH artist will be known internationally/ globally-, as the talent is overwhelming-i am talking of an artist who will say yes i am a Filipino, i am from the Philippines- not half or with a tinged of the blood or race but pure and solid Pinoy.

Im from Millennial generation pero na appreciate ko lahat ng genre ng music from Old folks music up to whats in right now. Hindi man super fanboy ng SB19 but i support them and their music. Dapat happy lng tayo makita natin sila sa International scene. 🙂

I am a tita 😅 i dont like kpop, but when I heard na trending ang Gento ng SB19, I did some researched about them, grabe yung guilty ko 😂 Narinig at napanood ko na sila dati, and Im a basher 😅 tingin ko kasi "Copycat" nga lang sila. Pero nung kinilala ko ang SB19, I've watched their interviews and how they started, grabe naging proud ako sa kanila, as in tumaas yung morale ko as a Filipino. Sobrang hanga ako sa perseverance nila, they are so talented and genius, at napaka-humble nila as always. And Im proudly say na Im a PPop fan now at mas gusto ko yun kesa maging kpop fan. Sabi nga tangkilikin ang sariling A'TIN❤😊

We have to accept that everything in this world evolves. Now, if we don't evolve we'll get stuck in the past. This world is evolving for the better. I'm sad when I heard Mr. Rey Valera said those things to PPop also from Maria. Instead of supporting their co-filipino artists, there's this ego in them (parang there's superiority/insecurity). I don't know but that's what I felt. Also, based on their answers, they're not familiar about the PPop groups in the country. But a little research can't hurt them.
