I’ve been an ESL Teacher for Korean students with ages ranging from 15-50. Also worked in a 5-star hotel with mostly korean guests in Cebu before. So I’ll speak from my experience.
The attitude and character of CK shown here in the video is not surprising kasi tbh, in general, Koreans look down on Filipinos. This is a reality, a lot of Filipinos can speak the same based from experience. A lot of them are rude especially to service workers, e.g., waiters, employees
My point here is, never ever let any foreigner of this land make you feel inferior, mistreat you in any way, just because they have white & nice skin, have more money, speaks English well, etc. In this case, SB19 clearly must have ALL the Filipino people’s support. I hope this serves as a lesson to everyone to start appreciating what our very own can offer, especially if they’re 💯 worthy of supporting naman.
To Mahalima, rest assured we’ve got your back! We will support you in this fight. As cliche as it sounds, LABAN LANG. Pagpatuloy ang pagwagayway ng watawat! 💪🏻🇵🇭

I have 2 incidents with Koreans which were both unpleasant. I was waiting for a queue to check in Korean airlines in Paris. I was called by the ground steward to check in in the first class when a couple minutes later, 3 Korean men in suits demanded they be treated first. The ground steward just shooed them off and told them to wait for their turn. Also happened during a lay-over in Frankfurt airport. You have lanes for ECC and non ECC. This Korean woman approached me and said: I think you are in the wrong lane. In my anger, I flashed her my European passport that it almost hit her face. Namumula yung face niya but didn't even apologized.

I’ve responded to a lot of hateful comments and I couldn’t understand the HYPOCRISY that they promote heavily everywhere else but if they feel threatened by other countries POP … to me of course this is to be expected…. I now only listen to Independent Artists and I avoid the TOXICITY of that specific genre. I’m praying for SB19 and asking that they wisely get out of this situation. • @rachellara9067
    @rachellara9067 11 месяцев назад +404

I beg to disagree that the boys overlooked the usage of the name. It took them months to confirm they are self managed, and more time has passed before they formally launched 1Z. They have a legal team behind them. Surely they are doing their work.
During the media launch of Pagtatag, Stell mentioned that they know they will have a hard time using the name. They are paying royalties. They were able to complete the US and Canada Tour without a hitch. Then all of a sudden this happened?
The boys are not greedy. They have paid their dues and much more. Lahat ng naitulong ng ShowBt sa kanila, naibalik na nila. So who is greedy now?

    • @hualian5339
      @hualian5339 11 месяцев назад +70

I think the same thing... it's impossible that they don't know.... but the difference is that the more sb19 publicize themselves the more popular they get. it is possible that there's already a talk between these parties before since they made a US tour and launched their company without a hitch, it might be bcoz the negotiations have failed and the asking price for their name and songs must be higher than expected. that's why they're having a problem. And one more thing is that maybe they don't want sb19 be more popular than those kpop acts.... their concerts are being cancelled in asia then there's that AAA what name would they bring...it seems like everything is too timely in my opinion.

    • @missppop

Yes true but the thing is wala kasi silang official announcement, kaya lahat speculation. Kung ano kasunduan nila before parting ways. Tapos biglang parang ambigat gamitin ng name nila parang napaka bawal na...and malinaw lang yung nasa IPO na trademark ng name na nasa shwbt parin, kaya lahat yun ang starting point ng problem.

What other official announcement would you need from them? If there's an on going case, hindi sila pwdeng magsalita about it. May narinig ba kayo galing from the other party? They might have been given a gag order so lalo ng mahirap mag comment. Tas hinahanapan nyo pa ng announcement? It's just plain panggigipit ang ginagawa sa kanila. Kumita ng husto yung world tour nila so malamang mas malaki ang hinihingi. They've been milking the boys for all they're worth. If I were them, I would give up the name. They are better of without it. It would cease to exist without the boys. Kahit ipagamit pa nila sa iba, it would never be the same.

The boys have the right to choose who will manage them. They have all the rights to build their own company and it’s not greed, that’s GROWTH. I know SBT has invested a lot for them but I think the boys have paid and served them with several endorsements, concerts, events, vlogs, etc. Their 3 years training was not even paid. Yes, it is SBT who’s the main reason why there is SB19, but it is the boys’ talents and dedication why they made it this far. And I don’t think the boys overlooked or didn’t think any trademark issues before they left the company. They are not dumb to not even think of this. I think they have an internal agreement with SBT as they would not be able to use that name for more than a year now if there’s no such agreement. Stell even mentioned during the IWY media launch that they’ve gone thru a lot even with their name SB19 itself. I trust that they already have a plan or been working on this for a long time so let’s just support them no matter what. 💙

We also have to keep in mind that we Filipinos are generally loyal. The boys loyalty (I think) was more to Tatang Robin and less to SBT, when SBT was acquired by CK, he did not work to get their loyalty.
We can see the relationship b/w tatang Robin and Mahalima was genuine.
Maybe CK feels betrayed by the boys, but we as a people develop ties to other people and less with institutions.

    • @bargainhuntermama
      @bargainhuntermama 11 месяцев назад

Didn't Tatang Robin take them on mall and campus tours to promote the company? Do you think those events were without costs? Doesn't the company have paid employees that helped the boys? A lease payment for the building where they trained? I get it that we're not happy with ShowBT but do not discount what they did for the boys, especially before the pandemic. Unless you're in the inner circle and have seen the books, we really have no right to make these type of accusations. I know it's easy to get emotional and I too am angry for SB19 and what they are going through. Let's not also get too emotional and spread things that are conjecture, speculation, etc. These could sometimes be more harmful rather than helpful to the boys.

@@CashualChuckhi Chuck...maybe there's another angle of breach ..as you mentioned, during the time of pandemic, they were left on their own, that is a breach, hence, it is not fully true that the company fully invested on the boys since the boys took it upon themselves to make their group going wo d expected support during the lowest period - the pandemic....that is a breach of agreement ...that is my view on this ..the law may state provisions that appears to favor one party Bec of some DEFINITIONS but everything is DISPUTABLE in court down to the very definition of a word and all that is attached to it that evens criminal can be acquitted depending on how they argue their case. Nothing is conclusive just bec there were written provisions Bec it is a case to case basis. In writing the company may own the trademark but in practice they have not done their part by fully supporting the boys most esp when the pandemic happend. The pandemic is not expected but legally it is NOT AN EXCUSE to just leave and drop support to their talents. For me, that is a breach. Even employees have rights before they accept terms and conditions laid down. They have rights not to do work beyond their scope..etc etc

As a former data analyst, I believe in Pablo's strategies, a 13-hour company meeting means every minute details and angles had been tackled in their transition for being self-managed, including legal issues. As a proof, it's all in the Crimzone lyrics in Pablo's part - "Had to cut ties
    With do-double crossers
    Just to thread the needle
    Weasel shoo!
    Don't need you
Kase ngayon alam ko na what to do
    I sneeze achoo
    Para mawala na ang flu
Coz I got lot of things to do, ooh" ... Their Plan B is ongoing, and thanks to all their endorsements and Ninangs, as of the moment, one by one they're reclaiming what they deserve as "gem" artists Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken and Justin, as MAHALIMA who's well-loved by everyone because of their authenticity, level-up creativity, and humility.

Hello Chuck, it's been a month, I hope you are doing well 🙂. Ito lang masasabi ko....We really don't know what is happening; there's no official statement. But I am praying. I always include them in my prayers, as well as their families, 1Z Entertainment, and even SBT, so they can settle everything amicably.
Also, I have been thinking about this for days now. I think they already know what will happen. If you read their lyrics again, you will see that some of it makes sense now. Remember, the EP is a trilogy: 'Pagsibol,' 'Pagtatag,' and 'Simula and 'Wakas.' Pagtatag is patatagan ng wallet in the beginning since the EP release, concerts, shows, merch and etc. And now Patatagan ng loob dahil sa nangyayari sa kanila.
I am positive they will rise like a phoenix after this. 'Simula' marks the start of something new, and 'Wakas' signifies the end of this chaos. I believe in them. We need to be patient.💙

SBT & Blackstar probably allowed esbi to use their name after the 5 left the company. There must have been some arrangement made cuz blackstar (jpinto) was apparently the producer of the pagtatag shows. It's unthinkable that esbi didnt know about the trademark issue. That they continued to use it must have some kind of agreement or approval between the former mgmt and themselves. Why this turned sour is still the mystery; somehow, somewhere trust must have been breached leaving esbi to a greater legal and financial disadvantage because sbt holds the trademark contract.

Hello Chuck. May I just share my own two cents. I've became a fan of these young men just recently and like others, I'm totally dismayed at what's happening to the group given all the forbearance, hard work, sacrifice and dedication each and every one of them gave to finally establish themselves as they are now. I'm trying not to care nor dare to speculate on what's happening since I know nothing of the group's internal affairs. However, I can't help noticing something that might have been overlooked by people. I've read so many comments about this current difficulty being faced by our favorite group. Curiously enough, I didn't find anybody mention how "suspiciously" coincidental the occurrence is of this seemingly chaotic mess the group fell into, especially since their popularity is literally on the verge of skyrocketing in the world scene.
There seemed to be no problem using the name "SB19" when the group announced that they have left ShowBT before the release of their Pagtatag EP, when they informed the fans of the establishment of their very own 1Z management group, when they launched their Pagtatag World Tour and all the way up to the time of their half a decade concert. The boys were their lively selves then. Suddenly, everything changed on that TM concert and everything came to a standstill afterwards, a screeching stop to their performances and total silence (except for the notification for concert cancellations). IF the issue is with the trademark infringement on the use of the "SB19" name or whatever else that has something to do with ShowBT, shouldn't it have cropped up when the release of the Pagtatag album was made or even after the establishment of 1Z Entertainment, etc? Why only now? This is why I said this to be something "suspiciously" coincidental. Isn't it more likely a deliberate attempt to slow down or derail the rising popularity of our boys in the international stage instead of royalty issues? Lest we forget or fail to consider, there are politics as well in the music industry like in ALL industries.
Finally, sorry but I can't agree with what you said that wouldn't the boys be greedy themselves as well by leaving ShowBT in the lurch. From the videos of their interviews I've seen on the hardships they underwent where they mostly and basically fended off for themselves, I think they have paid their dues to their former management.

true....some hearsay is circulating that a big company is behind these attacks and there PM/DM that has misleading content that throw the blame to the boys for their cancelled concerts when theyre not the producer of the con....as far as i know the producer is the one to have a contract with the artist and the venue and all thats why they have they are the one to issue the refund because they are rhe ones to pay the arrist...correct me if im wrong😊
i think big companies is behind these...they dont want Mahalima to stop but its obvious what they want is the A'TIN FANDOM even if they pour all their money to thwir artist if theres no fans its useless. They want A'TIN and THE BUYING POWER OF THE FANDOM..pera lang ang habol nila sa fandom kaya gusto nila pabagsakin Maha5...well they are not expecting that the fandom is a solid fandom so they cant take A'tin away from Maha5

The first thought that came to me when the news came out about the tradename issue was that maybe iniipit ang Mahalima at gusto singilin ng malaki nung foreigner dahil sa nakita niyang biglaan at taas ng trajectory ng pagsikat nila base sa sobrang init at sigla ng reception sa mga concerts nila at sa laki ng attendance nito. Tsaka yung timing prang sinadya na wag bigyan ang boys ng wiggle room para magresist sa demands ng kumpanya.

What I noticed was, ShowBT just allowed them to go on their own cuz the Korean director thought they won't go anywhere far. But things started to fall on his face when the boys became a hit after breaking free from the Korean box. So Charles Kim's ego was hurt and he realized he should still maje money out of the group. He is now making sure that when the timELe the boys conquer the world, his company still gets a portion of the income. The real greedy here is the Korean. In fact, all big labels in Korea are greedy.

No wonder hindi magtatagal mga talents sa agency nya. I remember Pablo said, one of the reason na tinayo ang 1Z ay pra di na pagdaanan ng ibang mga talents to be ung pinagdaanan nila. 1Z will not keep using the name without any agreement. Stell emphasized during Pagtatag media launch that keeping the name was one of their adversary before releasing Pagtatag.
There could be an agreed amount to use the name. And as blessings poured to SB19, SBT could have demanded for additional amount base on their current market value and 1Z entertainment was not having it.

Meron nakakaunawa at meron naiinis!

What makes it really sad is that I feel they were taken advantage of. Mistreated because they were young and naive just grateful for the opportunity. But like what others have said, Filipinos are looked down upon especially by other Asian countries. So, the timing could not be more suspicious. The boys are going global and they are competition for other Asian groups which is probably scary for some of these management groups. All I can say is Pablo, Josh , Stell, Ken and Justin are never greedy. With their character traits, it is very ovbious, that they are very , very generous and the most patient, kind , loving, respectful and God fearing persons.(btw, during the What MV, not a single centavo was spent by showbt, everything was spent by the mahalima boys, they said it during Darla’s interview with them). And showbt got his share of course. And when the US TOUR was successful, again, he got his enormous share, now knowing that there’s an ASIA tour, this time , they may be asking not only more, but more more some more.I guess CK is the greedy one, typical koreano agency.

In Korean industry kasi idols are not allowed to get near their fans or was sometimes just told not to wave back. This happens also when Dream Makers aspirants were not allowed by their Korean mentors to wave back to their fans. Lastly, mas importante sa kanila yung visuals kahit waley ka talent in singing kasi pwede dn nmn sila mag lipsync kaya ok na. That's the harsh part of being in Kpop at minsan yung mga idols ginagawa na lng cash cows ng mga management nila.

I'm so FIRED UP. To be frank, I only started liking SB19 after Cashual Chuck's in depth focus on each of the members. I first saw them on Fox channel on YT last year and got curious because I learnt they are a Pinoy group. So I tried watching SB19 under ShowBT. I didn't like their k-pop sounding songs at all, but I enjoyed their OPM sounding ballads esp Hanggang. K-pop is definitely NOT my cup of tea, so I got utterly disappointed when true OPM died around the 2000s and people started patronizing K everything. I'm very patriotic, so imagine my horreur when I found out that Korean companies started setting up in PH to exploit Filipino talent! I mean, haven't Filipinos figured it out already? WE MADE K-POP DRAMA ETC TREND! What the heck!!! Let's get our power back, Pinoys!
They already infested Makati through the years where I lived. I mean, we've had many settlers since the ancient times, such as the Chinese, Indians, Arabs and Malays, so Filipinos have dealt with that. And then, the colonizers came. That's another story the Alamat boys are now covering. But of all the cultures I've come across as an FA, I find Korean culture to be the MOST bizarre. My parents had a Korean renting their condo in the 90s, and it also wasn't a good experience. To this day, the smell of kimchi traumatizes me lol. I live in Switzerland, and guess what? Same story. Koreans like you when you wear a genuine Swiss watch or carry a doctorate degree. Shallow, shallow, shallow. A Swiss friend who does events around the world hates doing events in Korea. She says they are the worst people to deal with. And to think, she's a tough Swiss cookie. She wasn't having their rotten attitude.
This is my PERSONAL opinion and experience, so don't you blast me on the comment section, because I am not one of the few who's ever had a nicey-dicey Korean experience. Korean colleages shocked me in ways unimaginable and I was NOT HAVING IT.
When I saw how Tatang Robin hit the boys 'playfully' using a plastic hammer, I found this SO BIZARRE. CRINGE. Like, come on! And on camera? No shame because to them, it's normal. But haven't we all passed that crazy generation when old comedians would hit their sidekicks on the head? That's soooo last century and totally unacceptable NOW. Nobody should ever, EVER touch the crown of your head, kids! I can't believe NOBODY said anything about this. But then again, of course not, coz they act like they "own" Filipinos because of money. And now this Charles Kim? Who the hell is he, playing god? He can't even pass as a sewer rat, imo. This low-life should be deported for his notorious behaviour towards Filipino citizens, tbh. If he could do that to the boys, imagine the staff. We've come across many rude foreigners, and they end up being deported. This shouldn't be tolerated, esp with proof on social media. This guy will get served one day.
Then again, I'm not shocked to see this is still happening because these people are taking advantage of poor Filipinos. UNLESS WE SPEAK UP. Now seeing that Koreans are still doing this on a daily basis, acting like gods in Manila, is getting me all fired up. So yeah, Chuck. This is how I feel. Abusive and rude people should be called out, whoever they are, fellow Filipinos or foreigners. We should stand up for every Filipino, not only the boys. Every Filipino. 🤎
I've been so busy minding my own life until I heard about this just now, thanks to you again! Hope you're doing well, Chuck. Another hot topic you've covered to get us all fired up! Keep it up. Hugs from Switzerland.

If greed is the term for them to get what they deserve, then YES, let them be greedy! Don't you guys remember their stories about entertaining and serving guests (as waiters) at the same time? For me, they have paid their dues with ShowBT and even with Tatang Robin-rumors where he was pocketing down payments for shows that sb19 had no prior knowledge of and had not paid for. Pandemic happened, and they were left to "fend for themselves," and after all of that, di siniraan ng sb19 ang dating company nila.. yes this is business I know pero may blindside na nangyayari Dito... Kasi Hindi Naman mag a-announce c Pablo ng 1z if Hindi pa plantsado lahat.. di Naman yata cla Tanga diba? Sabi ni Stell 13 hrs cla nag me meeting and may mga trusted people cla to help them.. mag blindside n nangyayari and they were taken by surprise sa ginagawa Ngayon ng ShowBT.. di pa ba enuf ang royalties.showbt? Nice that you tried to stay objective but there's still a lot of ground to cover or consider even with the lack of information. Like first, even when they separated from the company, we aren't sure that they completely cut ties in the sense like they still 'probably' paid royalties to SBT. Because if they didn't, then this issue would have come out even earlier and would never have been allowed to release Pagtatag. Which makes you wonder why they did in the first place. Were they (SBT) also planning something too, feeling things out. And most of their international tours are tied to BSE so for sure there's still some connection there.
It might be important to note the timing or date of when all things broke down. After the 5th anniv. Again, all we have our speculations. What I'm most afraid of is how long this will take knowing the way law works in our country. Can this be resolved sooner? Can they come up with agreeable terms where both parties can be happy and correctly compensated. I mean i also understand that SBT should get what it's owed but honestly since you mentioned Ikako it seems they have completely given up on the boys if not for their own talent and hard work. So this resurgence is in a way -- their very own making.

I just learned about SB19 when they had the Pagtatag tour leg here in Chicago. And I became an instant fan. The talent, humility, passion and charisma they have are unprecedented in my opinion. But I immediately found it weird that they did not consider renaming their group since they became self-managed (under their 1Z company). Or have their legal team look into options. So i just assumed they made the legal settlement about the name/trademark. They should fixed that way before and now they are in bigger trouble coz their name SB19 is now internationally known. Anyway, just rename already and cut their association with anything SB/ShowBT coz it seems to have bad management now…. Stay strong Mahalima!!! ❤❤❤

Thank you Chuck for this content! It shed some light on how our boys did struggle. There might be a lot of maltreatment from behid the camera that the boys had with CK. It was different when they were still with Tatang Robin and I'm glad they still have good relationship with him. My heart really broke on how they were treated by CK on this video. They don't deserve to be treated that way. Some might find this video offensive for some because they thought Chuck was shading our boys, but he is just being rational on a legal prospective. Instead, he showed his love for our Mahalima by giving us a glimpse of the main reason why they left ShowBT. They never bad mouthed or say bad things from their previous company. They worked really hard to be were they at now. I do hope this all fiasco will be over soon and praying for them to come back stronger!❤ Lets not throw stones at each other, lets pray and support our Mahalima. This video might not be suitable to all A'tin out there but, this serve as an eye opener of the hardships they've been through under ShowBT.

There’s no way for me to have ever learned how they were treated by the previous company if it weren’t for this video so big thanks! Just a healthy discussion…To me the short clips say a lot about ShowBT’s management style. It did not sit right with me. Like I mentioned in X, if it is any indication of the treatment they received under this new CEO, it makes more sense now why SB19 would leave. I’ve previously watched some YT about the dark side of Kpop industry (where I assume ShowBT is modeled after; not a Kpop fan but just curious). I’ve learned how difficult it is and how they compensate and treat their artists. Artists are made to pay back the company over time of what was owed leaving very little to the artists. They probably paid all their dues. I encourage folks to actually watch them if they have time so they are well informed. IF all of these were true, I could understand the group leaving. The song “Freedom” has more impact on me now. Now I get it. The one thing I would probably disagree with you is SB19 being greedy solely because of this reason. I wish them all the best though! Great video by the way!

@cashual chuck. Thank you for this logical analysis. I do understand that the things you've said may not be perfectly true at the very least you once again gave a well put analysis. And it can be felt your genuine concern towards sb19. Actually I find it suspicious to some who are trying very hard to down play the gravity of the problem 1z entertainment and sb19 is really facing. They always say that it might give the boys trouble well I hope they would realize that Pablo, Stell, Josh, Ken and Justin are already in big trouble that until now nothing was officially related to the fans. Staying quiet can be a double edge sword. That is at times it can make the issue die down or it can make it worse due to unsubstantial claims. But definitely silence does not solve anything.

This was the first time i saw the video, and that's undeniably a maltreatment😢. I'm in shock ang sakit sa puso. If he can do that actions with alot of people watching what more in private? What was that? 😭🥲
