I'm gonna be 100% honest here. If you look at these aliens and think "those aliens are a satire of me", maybe it's time for some intense internal reflection. Very, Very far away from me.
This is finally a good take. Unlike all the people that presume to know the meaning behind the story and are acting like the wokies they are attempting to criticize.
As much as I don't know if the author is making some sort of intentional parallel in the story it seems pretty clear the aliens are assholes just from this synopsis, so yeah, these Twitter people are basically calling themselves out.
Do these people realise the aliens are much more similar to the old British empire than foreign immigrants? Like they come as apparently benevolent heroes but end up oppressing the natives of the planet, taking everything and not giving anything worth
I mean illegal immigrants are exactly that but without being "apparently benevolent" But maybe the people complaining are law blind so they miss the whole "illegal" part and worry that by insulting bad people the innocent will suffer. I am shocked, aliens reminded me of the "rich colonizer" (fancy things, better positions in society, abusive tendencies to "lower" class people etc.) trope and in the story they basically "eat the rich" lol. I thought they'd love this one.
The thing is, not even they believe their own propaganda. The only colonials who treated natives with quite this level of smug superiority and arrogance were the Soviet Communists, who made speaking non-Russian languages illegally, discriminated against the different ethnic groups, and killed tens of millions of Christians in deliberate famines like the Holodomor.
That was my immediate though, too. Even being set up by the title to expect some sort of political message, that was literally all I could see. To be fair, there could be some elements of the aliens, omitted in the video, that some people read as "immigrant coded". But the superior technology= superior resources, and being the ones in charge of everything. It's a literal eat the rich manga!
Because it makes people recognize that them calling white people colonizers is projection when that's exactly what they're doing to white countries wit their precious pet browns.

Alternative theory: its not about immigration. Its about tourist and fake fans coming into the anime space. The japanese people represent the companies that tolerate mistreatment because of cash it makes them. The main characters represent the creative that get stifled.
Well yes, but these types also simp for migrants that show up to a place and suck it's economy dry of resources, increase crime rates, turn medium/high-trust societies into LA, and balkanize local populations into higher numbers of special interest groups

The 'Modern Audience' has zero understanding of fictional media if they think that this story is a manifestation of the author's evil beliefs simply because it dares to depict something that makes them feel uncomfortable. Fiction doesn't consist only of feel-good stories; it also includes stories that can challenge the reader is some way.
It is also sometimes just a story and the trope being used is just to push the story forward. You all are acting like the people at art galleries that see some random person's shoe and think it is an art exhibit and start pontificating on the profound meaning behind it when sometimes it is just a shoe and you need to stop huffing your own supply.
Death of the artist started with lovecraft and now every single piece of media is looked at as just an extension of the creators belief in every single facet of the work.

There's this thing called "friend-enemy distinction" that basically every living species exercises in order to survive and thrive. In the case for the human species, specialised behaviour has developed in the memetic sense where you can shame your enemy for using this basic life sustaining function, exploiting that human beings are cooperative and socially conscious animals. You can basically make someone keel over and die out of their own volition as you stomp their head in because you forced their instinct to comply with social shaming misfire. The label of xenophobia funnily enough is mostly used to corrode and subvert the very genetic conditioning of our species that actually permits us to be kind to a stranger in the first place, as in this scenario those who are too sincerely socially conscious are selected to die off and those who are ready to exploit any and all good will will thrive.

The second thing it reminds me of is the Palestine-Israel issue and the shit going on in the occupied west bank.
*Minus the alien eating part.*

@@memeplus7560 imo, the idf should just take the hole thing and call it a day. the sheep see them as the bad guys either way so why bother
Colonialism
Oh, I like this take 👀🍿
Japan doesn't like the US occupation forces very much and those "incidents" sound like they would fit (even in the UK, a US embassy worker killing a pedestrain was resolved by by the US citizen being shipped back to USA instead of any kind of judicial proceeding)
Thank you for covering this and everything you pointed out! 👍
It is not even about imigration, it is about imperialism. Like, don't get me wrong, japaneses don't really like imigration, but the manga isn't about that. This of: random people caming over, taking over your goverment and now they are on comand is just imperialism man
ya. that what I said. Replace the Aliens with 'Rich white men' and you basically have the experience of every English colony being "saved" from there Savage ways. thats why its so wild that they hate something they been preaching about...wasnt the "anti-colonism" and "systmatic racism" a big talking point of theres a couple years ago?
The children on twitter can't tell the difference.
Honestly not really far off from the reality that hit japan right now with UN trying to destroy their culture
Exactly. And they'll probably be shown to either have caused the meteor threat as an excuse to gain power or faked the incident altogether. And all these Twitter creatures will end up defending the bad guys. Again.
This is what the indigenous of the Middle East-who are Christian, e.g. the Copts and Assyrians-experience every day from Islam.

[GUNSHIP NOISES]
*Oh right*
Don't forget the two suns
When you realise the USA is trying to force political reform in Japan through manipulative tactics so that they open their borders and take immigrants and refugees. Makes all those military bases in Japan a bit more ominous 🌚🌝

HAHA wtf.. the "actual reason" why people are enraged? is aLOT stupider than what i thought going into this video! im actually laughing. this manga looks awesome
love this. finally a manga where its not just "humans bad, non humans good" no. our society should always be humans first.
Same with demons
Yeah, kinda tired with 'demons are just missunderstood ikemen/bishoujo' trope.
Really watered down what exactly demons are.
"HUMAN SUPREMACIST MANGA?!!??!! UNACCEPTABLE!1!1!1!!"
I can see why Twitter users would be mad
@JPPkrFan ngl, Hazbin Hotel might've singlehandedly killed that trope because of how obvious it is.
There's only so many times you can do crap like sell "Sinsmas" Christmas cards before people start questioning how we got here.
@JPPkrFan I think I read a manga where there were demons who just acted like normal people, but it turned out they weren't actually demons, just people who the regular humans thought _looked_ like demons. Later in the series, _actual_ demons showed up, and they were lovecraftian eldritch horrors that wanted to destroy humanity.
I thought that the “modern audience” liked “fight the power”-type stuff.
Not when it's their power characters fight against lol
Only when it's against the white or orange man.
Did you just notice the hypocrisy? It's their whole thing
They don't want to fight the power. They simply want the power for themselves.
That's what truly matters.
The first tweet said the quiet part out loud, like bro, how did you let your secret slip thqt fast lmao
12:08 "But I'm still gonna make fun of it like with frieren" Opinion discarded.
Frieren is peak
I wonder why they didn't see the aliens as colonizers🤔 What if the mangaka was commenting about colonisers? Would they support it then?
I bet it's entirely just because the world "alien" has become slightly more politicized lately in the US.
If this had been about demons or fantasy creatures invading and the technology was replaced with magic, whatever the case to just not use the word "alien" none of this drama would happen.
Twitter activists are just trained to react to buzzwords.

Good thing Trump won because the far left has been seething ever since. They deserve it.
3:50 At this point this is just pattern recognition, everybody knows what is happening at Europe and UK.
Yep
I wonder... Is there big difference between "black woman getting in the white house" in US and whatever Pakistani man getting into whatever in UK?
Because everyone knows that which people are after the power in UK, if they are on immigrant side, but in US the image is completely opposite
Because we have Japan, UK, Germany and other places that rightfully may find any sign of diversity being very threatening for them right now, and we have Americans that refuse to even imagine a nonwhite person being malicious or harmful to the organization
"modern audiences" inadvertently defending colonialism is both funny and sad

The irony of these people IMMEDIATELY jumping to defend immigrants at the mere possibility of the story implying anything about immigration is not lost on me. If this manga is an allegory for immigration, the author sure did make an accurate representation.
