The post-Disney Oswalds are still owned by Universal, partially because they're not a part of the Disney history of the character, partially because the director who ended up taking over the series, Walter Lantz, folded the character into his series Woody Woodpecker. Another comment pointed out the Grateful Dead logo during the bear fight, but also worth noting is the mountain in the background of the lizard fight has the logo of the band Phish plastered on it. If anything the band logos alone are some of the bigger legal issues as unless the dev can prove otherwise, I highly doubt they got permission from any of those bands to use their logos.

22:33 The head of the lion samurai boss comes from the lion seen in both the 1930 feature film "The King of Jazz", and the Oswald short "Africa" (which features some re-used animation from The King of Jazz). On the subject of the Oswald cartoon legality, I'm pretty sure it's a Doug situation, where Disney has retained ownership of the characters and franchise, however Universal still owns the cartoons and further media (up until when Disney bought back Oswald) that were made for them after Walt's 27. This includes the later shorts that drastically alter Oswald's design, and even the comics from Walter Lantz (Not yet sure how Disney owns Oswald's theme song, which debuted in the aforementioned short "Africa", from the early Lantzes). Some shorts from this later period however are in the public-domain, such as "Spooks". The animation of Pete throwing Oswald into the bank looks to be the same animation used for "The Dancing Bear" during the 2nd phase when he's throwing the lightning bolts.
29:33 Frosty's appearance in this boss fight technically does fall under infringement, as although his visual design has been modified to have coal eyes and a carrot nose, his iconic "Happy birthday" line, ripped directly from the TV special, is used whenever he runs across the screen. I do wonder if you may have investigated on any of that Santa's other animations, like his Livesey walk, or him baiting a present with a punch?
Also of worth note, some of Pete's other animations are tracked from "The Gallopin' Gaucho", another public-domain Mickey Mouse short (just the silent version though)

    • @elizabethwarren146

Enchanted portals did one thing really well, and that was having the art style changing in the game become a mechanic. I wouldn't have been surprised if the original premise for the game would have been to play the bosses in different art styles, and the rubber hose style was shown in the first trailer to keep the main gimmick of the game under wraps for a bigger surprise later, but it immediately backfired. I still absolutely WANT this premise to be true, and maybe some game in future to work like this. Maybe one of the levels could be entirely clip art 😂

I found the Looney Tunes wiki to be a pretty good reference source for determining what shorts are in the public domain or not. And from what I can find, you seem to be right about “Flowers for Madame” not being in the public domain. “Cross Country Detours” also doesn’t appear to be public domain either, so that’s another illegal one.

Pete was also originally a bear in the Oswald cartoons made by Disney so universal kept making the Oswald cartoons with the bear Pete while Disney was using the new Pete which was a cat in the Mickey cartoons. Although the shorts technically aren’t in the public domain I don’t think universal would go after you for you using Pete the bear since they barley even care for there shorts like as if they don’t even exist.
