The 1947 Ford is on the hoist... ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC ❌

  • We decided it was time to put the 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Business Coupe (or is it a 1946) up on the hoist and the only word to describe what we found is pathetic. The missing mounts are minor compared to what we just found
    Remember, it was advertised as "rust free, original, one repaint, safety certified, no need to spend anymore cash on this beauty."

    I remember the seller saying the car had been for sale for a while due to buyers not liking the colour of the interiors upholstery. I think it was still for sale because potential buyers had taken the time to inspect the underside and body of the car and found it needed significant repairs.

    I don't care. It's a good looking car inside and out. It made it home some 1400 miles (2000 km). Just fix the fucking thing and enjoy. What you're doing now, you should have done before handing over the cash.
    EDIT: Okay. My comment above was before watching the video. But I stand by what I said. NO ONE is disagreeing about the seller's misrepresentations. He may very well have committed fraud. That shoddy repair work, done sometime in the past IS, in fact, pathetic. And most likely NOT certifiable for safety purposes But THAT is not the point. The fact is that you paid some twenty thousand plus dollars for the car and couldn't be bothered to ask for it to be driven to the closest lift for further inspection. Had you done so, you would have either walked away, or negotiated a $10-15,000 reduction in price. You chose to do neither.

    Well Chad, I'm an auto mechanic, and I get very upset with my customers that buy cars without putting it on a lift first. As my dad would say, if the seller won't let you take it to a mechanic to look over, don't buy it. I won't even give an exhaust repair quote without putting it on the lift. Everything looks different on the lift.

    I was shocked when Chad purchased this vehicle with little more than a cursory look at it. In watching many car build and restoration shows I have watched as they throughly examined every vehicle prior to puchasing them. To include wallowing in mud and worse to verify the sellers statements in regards to the intended purchase.
    One of the tells for me as regards a problem was when just prior to puchase Chad turned to Jolene and asked if she liked the car, her response was; 'If you do, I do'.
    After three plus years of watching Chad and Jolene interact it seemed a bit strange that she was not more specific when answering.
    Chad messed up. Plain and simple. All the whining in the world does not relieve him of the responsibilty of not doing due diligence before purchasing this car.
    'It was to close to the wall'.
    'How was I to see this, that and the other thing under the car'.
    Give me a break. You are a professional. I've seen you look, look, and look again before doling out cash.
    'Let The Buyer Beware', is the foundational position from which to start the examination of a potential purchase.
    Just please stop the whining!

      @allen4881 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@mritron7649It is obvious that this seller was being less then forthcoming from the beginning of their discussion. And as it went on the little details, such as the way the vehicle was conveniently parked in a way to inhibit a detailed examination As well as nuances in the conversation that should have been triggers.
      Particularly in the purchasing of vintage vehicles sadly a buyer has to assume that there will be discoveries that the seller will not reveal. They then will claim ignorance of the basis whatever that discovery or the less then truthful advertisement for the sale excluded or embellished.
      It's was Chad's responsibility to thoroughly examine the vehicle, top to bottom, front to back before purchase.
      Chad let himself and Jolene down by being flippant in the why he handlec this situation.
      I have never seen a vehicle purchased by Chad or other similar You Tubers were they didn't get a good look at the undercarriage.
      The mount that started the downward spiral of discoveries was 6" underneath the vehicle.
      Chad just needs to accept responsibility for a poorly executed purchase and move on.
      The whining is a bit much, and is about to run me off. He is even making reference to the situation as he starts the new project.

    There is no hole in the frame is a clue to what and how that is for. The L bracket has a hard rubber pad that supports the running boards. A center bolt fastens the rubber bushing to the bracket and the running board sits firmly on top of the rubber pad. Had you consulted with someone who knows, you wouldn’t have to assume or keep guessing. This is straight forward for those of us who have knowledge in these areas .

Everybody is human - I once bought a secondhand Toyota Hilux from a Holden dealer in Burnie Tasmania, the dealer ticked a box saying 'no warranty' and in my rush I let it slip. Two weeks later the vehicle was off the road with catastrophic diesel engine failure. My dad, a senior automotive engineer all his life was offered an apparently pristine late model Mercedes by a neighbor, a week later the air-conditioning compressor blew taking out the radiator, condensor & lots of other expensive gear. It can happen to any of us in a moment of weakness.

    I bought a car in Australia, from a dealer, described as 'truly wonderful' condition and phrases like that. Took it for inspection, they gave 4 pages of stuff to fix before they would even look at it properly. Told me it would be 7000 to do that much on a car that I paid 8k for. I complained to dealer who said tough luck and he didn't believe he was required to describe accurately in ads. So I gave negative feedback on his web ads. He was on the phone immediately begging me to retract as it was 'costing him sales'! I said only if you take car back and refund. I got 95% refund... ONLY because I had that feedback power. Otherwise he would have done nothing and the legal people I spoke to said not worth trying to sue over the ad.
    So if you took the time to read that.... BE WARY! Trust noone.

  • @dansautorestoration
    @dansautorestoration 11 месяцев назад

    I’m catching up on missed videos and finally got to this one.
    You are 100% right that, that car would never have passed a safety inspection here in Ontario. However, I don’t know if this is a thing anywhere else, but here you can find some shady shops/mechanics who will sell you a fake “hot” safety. I haven’t been around many shops for several years, but the cost of a legal safety was around $75 plus any applicable repairs which could be prohibitive for some people to afford. So some of the shady parties would sell you a “hot” safety for a couple hundred bucks. And hope that they don’t get caught.
    The ministry has tried to curb this problem by limiting the number of safeties a shop can do in a specific time frame. The shops have to buy the certificate book per safety certificate, based on the average safeties the shop performs within that time frame. To many more than that number flags the shop to be audited.
    However, the ministry have left a loop hole that some of the shady shops use to their advantage: the safety is valid for 36 days, but that really only means you have 36 days to register and plate the vehicle through the ministry. Technically the safety is only good for the day the safety was issued. An old mechanic told me about it. For example the vehicle may have a crappy exhaust on it, but as long as it is securely attached and not leaking, it is ok as far as the safety criteria is concerned, but if the exhaust falls off the next day it is not relevant to the shop because it was fine enough the day it was safetied. Plus if anything is changed after the safety, I will use the exhaust as an example again. Here the exhaust has to have a catalytic convertor to be safetied, but if you remove it to modify the exhaust the next day, it voids the safety because it is no longer in the same condition as was safetied.

    @curtgomes 11 месяцев назад

    I bought an older car much the same way you did in this video. It was a California car and body rust was not an issue. But believe me it had plenty of other issues. It was my fault for not inspecting MUCH closer the interior and running gear, including the transmission. I was able to save the car, after much work and cost, but I was so disgusted I sold it. The person who bought it got a good deal and was happy. I did not want a phone call like this buyer had to make. I, of course lost a significant amount of money. It was a lesson WELL learned. I will NOT buy any used car without a thorough inspection.
    Eleven years ago I bought a used Lexus in 'very' nice condition from a dealer. Because of my previous experience, I bought the extended warranty. The car, with 54k, was an anomaly from Lexus and had some major mechanical issues. They (Lexus) completely fixed everything that was wrong and I ended up with virtually a new car. I just dread buying a car and have not done so for some years now.
    All the best. I understand your pain.

    You know, at first I was thinking," yeah you should have looked better before buying," and everything else but i now understand the reasons behind all of this. It was alot of money to buy something advertised as one thing and then finding out its totally different than what you understood it to be. I almost feel as if the " appraiser " was selling this car as a quick flip for a buddy, or had full well knowledge of all the issues but yet still fogged up the window. If he had no intention,he wouldn't have parked it close to the wall. Its almost like going to look at a car, and when you get there, they have the car running " just warming it up for you" i walk away every time on those situations

    If I'm not mistaken, I believe the seller offered to put it on the hoist for further inspection during initial viewing
    He also offered to buy it back

      Agree. But that does not mean that the seller was not dishonest in the first place. He stated several false material facts about the car. Case closed in that regard too

      @@Thundertef so what's better? Lose 3k or lose the cash you paid for the car and the cash to repair it? He now has a laundry list of faults with the car. Don't telle he missed all of them.

    Here in Saskatchewan, you have 30 days to return with full refund if the vehicle is misrepresented...private or a dealer. That car was so badly misrepresented and not only in one AD, but the man had a second Ad with a different year on the exact same car 😳

I got to give you props man, I definitely would've been a lot more pissed off if Id spent all that time and money, and then found that. But love the videos, can't wait to see how it looks once you start getting into it more.

    Ugh! Proof is in the pudding💯 It’s got issues, but like you said, at least a guy that can fix it, got the car. You’ll make it right, do it up right, and make them clowns look real bad. We’ve all had a car, boat, or something or another that we should of had it looked at thoroughly. Stay positive and do what you do. Make it a Bad Chad Custom, while keeping it original for the most part when its done, keep it a classic car, done to the nines, IMO. Better Luck next time around 🤙🏻

    When Chad looked under the car at the owner's place what the hell was he looking at? The rust would have been evident as was the missing mounts. The missing mounts should have been a red flag. to him to look deeper. He said he spent $3000 to travel to Toronto for the car and didn't want to come home empty handed. So he was foolish enough to buy it for some $25,000. With an estimated 12-15 thousand dollars he figures to repair it he would have been money ahead to just walk away. Where in the hell was this SO Called Business manager Jolene all this time? Probably out shopping for clothes is my guess. The car had been for sale for awhile according to the seller because people didn't like the red interior. BS!! My guess is they were sharp enough to look under the car and determine it was a Rust Bucket!!

    Chad you are an experienced car builder and customizer. I would expect you to know better, what to look for and what to avoid.
    Mechanically, we all know you are not an engine builder or gearbox rebuilder. But, anyone can tell a smooth engine from a misfire and a noisey gearbox from a quiet one.
    I do accept that there are less than honest sellers. However, someone with your knowledge must accept your own failure for not doing a proper inspection. No good bad mouthing the seller when as a professional your inspection skills are as bsd as the sellers description of the vehicle.

    A rust free car does not exist in Ontario expect in the printed brochures. My first car was an eleven year old 69 Chevelle. It shortly needed a frame, floorpans, engine, tranny and much more! Gave up on it 5 years later but I did learn much that I have carried forward to today. Live and learn.
