This is remarkable. I had been fascinated by the disaster since 1963, when I was 13. I made a trip to The Dolomites this summer and visited the dam. I walked down the road with the upstream face in sight and then down the road and trail to reach out and touch it. I realized that I was standing on 650 feet of landslide debris. I could see how the sides of the canyon were scoured by the tsunami and how much of the top of the dam was torn off. I went to the cemetery and mourned the helpless victims. There are very few places on Earth like this that really display both the power of nature and of mans' folly.

un'opera pazzesca ed errori umani in serie:
6 dighe intercomunicanti con gallerie sotterranee
(l'invaso del Vajont che riceveva acqua dagli altri invasi)
una frana ben nota di cui era "solo" stata sottostimata la velocita' di caduta
(resa piu' rapida dal riempimento dell'invaso, portato al limite per collaudo)

L'unico caso nella storia in cui l'uomo ha fatto crollare un intera montagna... Assurdo.
