Canon mode is a great addition to the game. For my first playthrough, I’ll try canon mode and second time I’ll make the opposite choices. The fact that we’ll get only one ending makes me even more excited about the game, that means that the ending will be remarkable
I get people’s issue with Ubisoft’s pricing choices but I think most of the beef with AC Shadows’ narrative and gameplay is just outrage culture. Canon mode being controversial and viewed negatively is proof
Why would anybody cry about canon mode lol. This make completely zero sense. No matter if canon mode exists - there is always a canon version of what happened in the game and it's not mandatory to use canon mode. So what's the problem? All it does is giving opportuinity for players who don't like making choices in AC, while also giving possibility to make them, for other players.
Ac was always an rpg since the start, weapons dealt different damage and we could upgrade our items and armor, in origins and the newest ones it just got stronger
Canon mode makes sense for a game who's very premise is reliving the memories of the past to inform the modern day. The people who are mad about this don't actually play AC games. It's hilarious.
People go crazy when the devs add something optional in a game, but for whatever very convenient reason, are perfectly happy when they add something that you HAVE to do.
Canon mode is fine, they even said it was an optional thing. I'll probably play through initially however I want and do canon mode for ng+ or smth if I enjoy the game enough. I do remember reading smth about the game having just 1 ending, but the characters involved change depending on player choice? Idk, don't really care either so long as the gameplay is good. At this point I'm just writing my own AC canon as I go through the series so I can make it more fun for myself. Doin a little Dark Souls lore-ing but with a story that doesn't want much speculating.
3:31 they can just say “oh we’ve upgraded the animus using ai”, seems to work as an excuse in real life 😂. Personally I feel like AC needs to go back to having one solid set of events, and one character to focus on. It makes the story more memorable because it’s focused, which is why Origins still remains as the best of the rpg era.
I despised the choices, it ment nothing when it not cannon to the story, i love that they have cannon mode and i dont have to deal with those dumb choices
It adds to the immersion (at least for me). Especially since I like games w/ compelling stories--I find them great alternatives to books. And having the option to influence what happens next in a pre-written story is something unique that only video games can provide. But it really depends on the game. In AC, I don't really care much since the past games didn't have this. But in games like Kingdom Come Deliverance, Oblivion, and other RPGs, I do want my choices to have an impact.
The ability to make choices is one of my major complaints about Ac Odyssey and Valhalla. You're reliving the memories contained within your DNA thanks to the animus. Why and how would you be able to make choices ? The reason in Odyssey is bullsh*t and you don't even have one in Valhalla (just one for the choice of character). Having a canon mode should have been the base and then you have "what if" stories that aren't canon.
I think the real issue is that canon mode basically makes the regular mode meaningless. What is the point of making your own playthrough if there is a canon way which disregards it? I would have been way happier if “canon mode” had just been the default. Like this instead is sort of a cowardly move designed to satisfy everyone while also not having a real identity.
@@nasercartoon6067 well, not always. The Mass Effect games have no established canon. Same for the Dragon Age games. The Deus Ex games combined all choices so that they’re all canon. The fallout and elder scrolls games also have no established canon beyond the essential facts.
@@pastlife960 i know what you mean, but that’s simply not my mindset. If there is an “official” canon, then I feel like my canon is simply worthless. If there is meant to be freedom of choice, then all choices should have equal value. If there is an official way of doing things, then it means that whatever I do is worthless because, eventually, a sequel is just going to nullify whatever doesn’t align with the official canon. It’s pretty much the reason why I played as Kassandra in AC Odissey, even though it doesn’t make sense historically. I tried to make my playthrough as close as possible to the official because what’s even the point of building your own “what if?” I know it’s a subjective reason to dislike canon mode, but that’s how I feel about it.
@@ulyssesocounter8488 those games and silent hill have no canon for various reasons ig (silent hill cus the games aren't actual sequels), so yeah thanks for providing examples of what i'm not talking about. choices are dumb anyways i only like em if they are of no consequence or not there, i don't wanna worry about maybe getting a bad ending
"Cannon Mode" is just another means for them to justify their politics. They did it with Odyssey and Valhalla. Advertise the Male protagonists and in the end spit in everyone's face and say that if you want to play cannonically the Female is the way to go. WTF. If i am spending hundreds of hours in a game series and in the end that doesn't even matter realistically, why not just sit and listen to Ubisoft telling whats cannon and not the play the games at all.Mark my words! All of the gayest choices will be in the 'Cannon Mode", period. "Cannon Mode" is not the SOLUTION to Choices in assassin's Creed games.
1) if they wanted the canon character to be a gay woman, then they'll make it a gay woman with or without the choices mechanic, so it's stupid to complain about it. It's not a problem that needs solving. It's just a stupid mechanic that some people like and some people don't, so they gave the option to disable the stupid mechanic. 2) this is NOT the same as Odyssey and Valhalla. Naoe and Yasuke are two distinct characters, and both are canon. Also, both of them are being equally marketed. In conclusion: take a chill pill, mate.
@gonzalosanchez8162 i get it both are marketed and thier are no gender changing of characters that's good but it's Ubisoft they know how to mess things up. For the main story choices i get it but for the romances? Who can tell. They made Jacob in syndicate Bisexual. It's the same studio. In Odyssey almost every third character has romance choice. It KILLS the ASSASSIN'S CREED brand when the game is about gay romances rather than a solid actual meaningful story. And in this case with cannon mode, who knows how many homo romances are gonna be there and you can't even skip it or not opt for it cuz it's "Cannon".
LMAO at least they are giving us the choice to make the game less fun. its really annoying when they take away amazing RPG mechanics for those that prefer the boring old fashion AC. Odessy was amazing. the best of the best. I can't believe they are taking away gauntlets and pants customization. that was the greatest change throughout the the series.
Canon for me are the choices I make for my game. Of course if there is a sequel I’m ok with the Canon that the official lore releases. Not sure why this is becoming an issue for people. 🫠
Canon mode is such a non-issue especially with people in the past being mad that they had choices.
True. Plus it's just another mode--an option

i dont like making moral decisions in games so this is great. Im playing a character, not myself

Yeah. I was so confused when I saw titles like "AC Shadows takes away player freedom" or something. lol
This mode is EXACTLY what I needed😍

Canon mode should be default in my opinion because SC should not be an RPG
Agree. Then the other mode can be like "What-if" scenarios/mode.
Ac was always an rpg since the start, weapons dealt different damage and we could upgrade our items and armor, in origins and the newest ones it just got stronger
people are mad abt this ?? it's literally optional

I can't believe people actually dislike it, it's like when I recommended a simple optional gore filter for a game and some people got angry??

i really dont get people caring so much that the choice they make in a video game "matter", like its a video game

I still don’t understand why people care about canon in the first place.
like people get angry over anything really canon mode is great keeps the game real

same thing happens when a game with choices gets a sequel, a path becomes canon and the rest is poof
Why not just enjoy both? One doesn’t invalidate your experience of the other. So what if it isn’t official canon? It can be your canon
