The blockbuster plot was so genius parodying The Shining, possibly Matt and Trey's best work in 2010 South Park. Stoped watching the series after Season 10 but watched clips of the rest.
Crazy how they actually referenced the same the shining end scene. In this episode and also in the episode where Cartman freezes himself to not have to wait for the Wii
They should make a prequel to the shining, I would have loved to see more of the story of the twin girls that died at the hotel that Danny saw when he was riding his tricycle and more of the lady in room 237.
Finally got around too watching the Shining again. Now that I'm older, I appreciate it on a whole new level. This movie is just too damn good. Jack Nicholson was legendary for playing the role. And a few scenes where he does funny faces and speaks with a creepy sarcasm, I thought I saw the original Jim Carey from the 90s. And I, uh... Immediately saw this scene and started with, "Stan!! I'm coming Staney boy!!". It's like I was trying to ruin it for myself. I think that's how the child in me used comedy when it was really scary. 😅
Most of his characters are fictions of himself : writers, alcoholics, violent, lived once or is living in poverty, faced criticism for his alcoholism or his writings, etc. It's something pretty common in the writing world to portray yourself or an aspect of yourself as one of the main character.
He explains in On Writing that he starts with a situation, like a writer sitting a hotel for the winter with his family, or a writer getting in a wreck and ending up found by a fan, and the story develops from there
What makes this even funnier is that the last blockbuster is in Colorado and 30 minutes away from the hotel that inspired the design for the movie adaptation overlook hotel
Dude, how could you forget that opening shot of them driving on the mountains with the synthesizer music playing? When Randy said "It's up on the mountain, let's go!!"
