Randy is simply the most honest character. He doesn’t lie or try to manipulate other people like just about every other character. He just does what his heart tells him, and if anything does things out of ultimate care of his family. He’s actually the best dad imaginable.

It’s weird how, for an absurd cartoon Dad. He acts like a REAL dad. Unlike Homer, Peter, Etc.
In the early seasons, Homer did act like a realistic father, before the new writers came and screwed him up
Floyd Hebert That’s true, then other writers for other shows assumed that writing fathers like that would be a success. Yet with Randy, they mixed a bit of absurdity with real, cliche fatherhood.
@chris ortiz Well South Park and The Simpsons have different humor and commentaries, the fact he is the original does not make him funnier, I found South Park's humor funnier. Maybe early Season's Homer is great but later the whole show became so unfunny and cringy.
What for me makes early season's Homer the best is that he also has his emotional moments, failures, sacrifices and emotions.
Peter was a great cartoon Dad from season 1 - 7. Season 8 and beyond, he just became an overly stupid buffoon

IMO Randy is the best character in South Park. He's absolutely batshit nuts but He's somehow very relatable. As some of the challenges He faces as a Father are somewhat realistic (Although exaggerated) He finds Himself in so many terrible circumstances. Gotta love Randy He rocks

I like how you can see him getting whackier over the years. At this point he's the secondary main character with the greatest bits besides Cartman.
Randy was originally based off of Trey Parkers father, but then after he became a father himself, Randy started to become more like Trey.
I think as the shows audience got older we started identifying more with older characters rather than the kids, that's why the adults became more prominent and entertaining. But maybe that's just me

Randy was a background character for at least the first 4-5 seasons then got a few moments like in the figerbang episode and people really took to him. Rest is history . He is probably the main character now or at worst level with cartman as number 1
