The Endometrial Receptivity Analysis Test for IVF Success | ERA Test

- So I finally had my ERA test! In this video, I explain what the ERA test is, I talk about my experience, how to prepare for the ERA, the recovery, the next steps in my journey, and the costs for the ERA test. Some things to consider for the Endometrial Receptivity Array (Analysis) Test:
1) Take pain medication beforehand if you feel you need to, I did not take any for either test. My RE also does not provide valium like some clinics do.
2) Expect some spotting and cramping after your biopsy.
3) My RE uses a clinic which requires 2 samples of your uterine tissue, some clinics only require one sample, if they are able to gather the information they need from your first sample.
4) The cost of the ERA varies but the lab my clinic uses charges $750-$800 for the first sample and $250-$350 if they have to test the second sample. Plus, my RE charged $300 to do the biopsies.
5) You will prepare for the ERA test as if you are preparing for transfer, so that can mean taking a form of estrogen (for me it was Estradiol) and Progesterone (for me it was PIO.) This can be referred to as a "Mock Cycle"

thank your for this video it's so helpful. I am currently awaiting the results of my PGD tests on my only 2 embryos. This is our only chance here, and of course we want it to be successful. I want to ask my doctor to do an ERA test before we transfer (hopefully we have a normal embryo) I hope my clinic will do the ERA even before any transfers...

How I describe it: it feels like someone took a skinny scissor like clamp and cut a piece of my guts from the inside and the so called “period like cramps” feels like they yanked my belly button from the inside. Horrible! I cried afterwards, it was very traumatic for me.
I felt the same! My results came back inconclusive so now I have to get another one instead of my transfer this cycle, I just want to cry
In my initial discussions with my RE on IVF I asked about this test and he stated that he would be willing to perform it after one failed transfer. I was hoping to be able to do it before as I've had no bfps, but I feel better knowing that I don't have to risk multiple failures before finding answers with this test.
Tamikia TTC Ironically I know a girl doing the ERA test even before ever doing a transfer. I guess it depends on the RE. I understand both sides -you don't know if you need the test unless you have a failed transfer or multiple miscarriages, but at the same time you want to try to avoid those things. The test is so painful and expensive, I would recommend doing it only if you ABSOLUTELY had to.
You're right. I'm busy trying to fix it before I know if it's broken. I'm okay with waiting to see if the first transfer works. The mind set is on not wasting any embryos, but I guess you have to try first.
Thank you so much. I needed this because i had ask the nurse was it painful because my tolerance for pain is so low🤦🏽♀️to the point when i have cramps it causes me to pass out but she said it wasn’t that bad. I’ll just make sure I’ll take meds before i go. I do my biopsy June 17th.

Ouch, ouch, ouch!! My cervix and uterus started contracting while I was watching this. Cervix clamping and valium train sound like they should ALWAYS go together.
Ok, I have questions. They gave you PIO before the biopsy. Don't they want to see how much P4 your body is creating on it's own? Or will they start with PIO no matter what and then add on more progesterone based on the ERA test? I read somewhere that the ERA can also inform the timing of when the transfer happens, as it was discovered that some transfers were happening too soon.
Also, for your FET, do you have to start all over with the meds? I'm thinking you have to do the PIO or some other progesterone, but is it another box of all those needles?

The purpose is to mimic a frozen embryo cycle, so I had to do the PIO to determine the level of progesterone on CD21 and CD23, just as it would be in an FET cycle! And correct, the ERA can be used to determine the optimal transfer day! Interestingly, ERA biopsies can also be used to screen for cancer.

Thank you so much for posting this video. My ERA is scheduled for April 30th and based on what you described, I will definitely request to be placed on the Valium train, hahaha. After PGS testing I only have one good embryo so I spoke to my doctor and he agreed to the ERA. This is our 2nd and last round of IVF. At 40 yrs old, this is my last shot (pun intended 😊).
Round 1: 21 eggs, 10 mature, 10 fertilized, 5 survived day 5, none viable in PGS testing.
Round 2: 21 eggs, 21 mature, 18 fertilized, 8 survived day 5, 1 lucky one passed PGS.

alexiax obrien Thanks! I mentioned the costs and put more info in the description box. It was about $1500 and was not covered by insurance. Most doctors only do 1 biopsy
At the end of January we had to use an egg donor with my husband sperm when they implanted everything looked great but of course it was a fail and now we are scheduling for the era test sometime in April we have to wait for my cycle to start just wanting to know how everyone is doing with this I'm not good with pain

Hi there, I have 2 frozen embryos left. I"m thinking of doing ERA testing, but wondering how much this will delay the transfer by. Will you be able to share your mock cycle protocol and mock and real fet schedule?
Were you on PIO? Did you go on birth control pill prior to doing your mock cycle? Then did you go back on birth control pill again prior to doing the actual transfer?
Yes it delays transfer but only by one cycle. The mock cycle is done exactly as you would for an actual transfer. Birth control to regulate your cycle then in my case PIO & Estradiol, ERA biopsy then you do it all over again in preparation for transfer. Best of luck ❤
So after your egg retrieval how long did it take to do the ERA and then the transfer? Can you break it down for me week by week and what you did? I’m trying to understand the timeline of all this.... im currently going to have my egg retrieval in 8 days then expected to do the ERA and wonder how long that’s going to take typically
Hi! Everything is based on your cycle! So in order to prepare for each step you have to wait to get a new cycle. A retrieval, ERA, and transfer could all easily happen in three different months! Best of luck!
Hello do you think maybe this test would compare to an HSG test ? i have my era test this Monday the 13 /2020.
The ERA gives more information related to Frozen embryo transfers and the amount of progesterone in your uterine lining!
Allay Muse I also had the HSG test done- the test results came back great! I need to have the ERA done and I’m going to begin soon- I’m on my fourth transfer now. I’ve had three failed- two did not implant and I had one very early miscarriage at five weeks and two days. I hope the ERA test works for me
@@lilithssilvermoon3208 wonderful . i had both done and honestly the era was a bit more intense as far as pain goes but is quick nest thing you know is done . my era result was pre -receptive 50/50 of the women get that result that just means you need more progesterone in my case one more day of PIO. I had the Era done last month this month i did my first transfer on the 7th tomorrow will be a week . I am planning to test tomorrow first thing in the morning . and to be honest i am super nervous i am praying for a BFP only God knows is all in his hands . Will be my rainbow baby i lost my first baby last year on the same month .The Era test was recommended to us because we had 5 embryos PGS tested 2 normal .this is my first time doing IVF since we are not getting any younger and lost my first baby due to heartbeat stop at 8 weeks .
Infertility is a very hard road and ivf is a crazy roller coaster of emotions.

Allay Muse Omgosh! I’m pulling for you! Please keep me updated- I’m so excited for you. Yeah I’ve had the three failed IVF’s Transfers. The first one was no implantation and the second one I miscarried at 5 weeks and 2 days, i think. The last one. Feb 1st. It was implantation failure again. So I’m hoping this will be the next shot that I can get pregnant and stay pregnant. I’m not getting any younger either. I’m 50 years old 😆😊 but I’m in good health- I’ve had every single test under the IVF sun and I’m still having this issue. I’ve paid in the upwards of 54k the past year trying to make a go at this. I even did acupuncture. I’ve done everything. All my tests come back positive but I still don’t have any answers. 😭 hopefully this will be it. I just got off my Estrace and PIO. t baldwin I think its just for IVF! But I've seen some people do the ERA test to screen for other issues and found reasons why they haven't been able to get pregnant naturally.
