I live in South America and finding prosthetics to buy is both super hard and EXTREMLY expensive... Thanks to your videos I have been able to make a lot of things on my own and have saved TONS of money. Thank you so much! ♥
I also live in South America but i live in Venezuela and we cant find ANYTHING here and i was SO looking foward to this tutorial but we dont have any of those things here... and if someone is selling them they can be too much expensive cause it cant be found anywhere else.. :/ still thought i'd do it if i had the materials..
Neni mujica Oh I'm in Caracas ;) I found liquid latex and it IS expensive but I found it. Not saying we can find EVERYTHIGN but that her tutorials have helped me a great deal to make some cosplay pieces. If you are near me I can let you borrow some liquid latex or something ;) Saludos!
O.o i live at the west of Caracas is fun to talk to someone from my own country in english.. she's helped me a lot too with cosplaying and makeup and where did you find it? i know it is really expensive. Gracias :D
Hey! :) i am also from south america and i find that instead of using liquid latex, you can try using fake eyelash glue :) i have used it for a few props, and though its not the same it can work well :) (cheaper than the real thing at least)
Tip: be sure not to get any liquid latex/prosthetic adhesive on your baby hairs because taking off the prosthetic later will be a huge pain, however if you know for certain you are getting latex on your eyebrows, lashes or anything like that, you could apply vaseline to the hair so it wont stick. (:
Emily Aquino I know this is four years late but you can glue the hairs down with a glue stick before and it won’t stick as much but if you get it in your hair any oil based product will take it out when you soak it
Felicia Kullberg it is just an American tradition, here in Germany, it is just not celebrated, though there are other German traditions you don't celebrate, too :D all the monster makeup tutorials are really fun to do, but sadly, there's not really an opportunity to go for it :D
I'm so happy because 2 years ago I made some elf ears just like that, and watching you, one of my idols, teaching it, makes me proud of myself. Love your work!
* squee * this is so cool! I've been wanting to complete my character costume, but the elf ears I find at costume stores look more like they belong on Christmas elves -_- So this is great! I'm totally gonna try this out!
As this is a pretty amateur way of making ears, yes, there definitely are other ways to do this. The easiest one would be to cast your ear in alginate, fill it with plaster of Paris, take some non-drying sculpting clay such as plastilin, sculpt the longer ear and apply a few coats of liquid latex. If you wanna get more realism than what is achievable with latex, look into mold making and silicone prosthetics
Thanks a lot for this video! After a bit of trial and error these worked out perfectly for me! I'd recommend spirit gum as adhesive if you plan on reusing the prothstetics. Plus it gives a really strong bond to your skin so they'll stay put all day
Thank you sooooooo much. I didn't want to try at first because it looked really hard, but it was a lot easier than I thought. It worked perfectly. Thank you!!!!
This tutorial has come at the perfect time! I have an elf tutorial that I'm working on soon and this is going to take it to the next level, thanks so much, I'll make sure I'll send people your way for this technique n_n
Oh! This is very helpful and I will definitely use it! Always thought of ordering elf ears but I was not so sure if they'd really fit and just look weird. So thanks a lot!
XxKawaii DeinoxX ik ben toch echt Nederlands hoor anders zou ik dit niet kunnen schrijven. I am really Netherlands because i can spel this 🔝 i live in Limburg,Nerherlands.
My question is, are you able to use the ears over and over again? The reason I am asking is because I am doing a cosplay that requires the ears at all times (Thranduil from the Hobbit) therefore I won't have time to make the ears over and over again.
Are these able to be reused for numerous occasions or do you have to make several sets? My Dad plays as Santa for numerous events all through November-December and he wants me to join him next year as one of his elves!
If you coat your brush by rubbing it wet on a bar of soap you can use it to apply the latex with the bristle end. You simply wipe it off after you are done and then wash the brush and wipe it off so you are ready to use it again. This is a method of using a brush with latex without destroying it by Dick Smith and Rick Baker.
some people are allergic to latex and I think can be quite harsh on sensitive skin, I use latex for my skin even though I have very sensitive skin (everyone's skin reacts differently so just do a small patch on your wrist just to plag safe) Depending on which country you live in, some supplies can be easier or harder to find but I'm sure you can find normal modeling clay at your local craft store however, the liquid latex may be a bit trickier to find. if you can't find it at your art stores or any costume stores then go get it online instead
Great video, thank you! Question though; would Play-doh work in place of the modeling clay? Or is it too porous for the liquid latex? Thanks in advance
what type of modelling clay is it, do i need anything special or will it just work with any and is there a cheaper/easier alternative and also what was the powder you used on the latex i heard talcum powder but not what it was before..?? xx thank you :) xx
Just use some tape, clip it a little bit, put some clear nail polish on it to hold it down, let it dry, then add concealer, and viola you have yourself some elf ears for a day
Is there an alternative adhesive? I don't like to use latex on my ear, any other suggestions? Just so you know, I'm from Australia so I may not be able to get my hands of particular things...
I'm so jealous for my sister!!! She is really looks like an elf. Ok, she hasn't got as pointy ear as in the movies but she has got long blond hair and the most beatifule blue eyes in the world!!! But, there is a point for me: only I have as good hair to make elven hairstyles!!! :D And technically, she doesn't like LOTR so.... I'M THE ELF!!!! :D

SO awesome! I wish my ears were naturally pointy haha. It's oddly adorable!
Lucky!
Mines are pointy and sure rias
There's cosmetic surgery for that kinda thing. I think the process is called pointing?
Awesome! All or your DIYs are perfect for beginning cosplayers that are on a lower budget than others. The step are simple and always cheap.

I ran out of liquid latex and really wanted to try this so I used pva glue. It dried clear so I had to paint it but they turned out great!
I'm so glad you commented this! I don't have latex and buying some would be a waste just for making these, but I have pva glue so :D

Me: *has a huge project due in tomorrow*
Me: *watches video on how to apply prosthetic elf ears
Tip: be sure not to get any liquid latex/prosthetic adhesive on your baby hairs because taking off the prosthetic later will be a huge pain, however if you know for certain you are getting latex on your eyebrows, lashes or anything like that, you could apply vaseline to the hair so it wont stick. Naw just rip it off the pains *delicious*
I got latex on my eyebrows once and used Dawn Dish soap and a Lil water on a cloth to get it off, that's another way to get it off.
This would be awesome for Halloween! Sadly, Halloween is not celebrated in Australia. Sending you hugs and kisses from Australia x
I know how you feel, same in my country.
What? Why?
Celebrate anyways :D
Felicia Kullberg

Whaaat? Where I live in Australia, we celebrate Halloween! Trick-or-treating, parties and everything... Not as much as Americans, but it exists.
Ohh the tip with the triangle cut paper was exactly what I needed, thanks!
I love everything about your videos. It's simple and the end results are perfect. Thank you for being such an inspiration to us all! :)
I'm glad you find them so helpful! :D
This is so far one of the most beautiful and realistic ways I've seen so far. You're brilliant. Keep being you
Brilliant idea! x
I'm so happy because 2 years ago I made some elf ears just like that, and watching you, one of my idols, teaching it, makes me proud of myself. Love your work!
I just love Elf the most...thank you so much for this video 😍😍😘😘💜💜💜💜
* squee * this is so cool! I've been wanting to complete my character costume, but the elf ears I find at costume stores look more like they belong on Christmas elves -_-
So this is great! I'm totally gonna try this out!
Can you show us how to make those LONG elf ears? Is it the same way or would there be another way?
Chibi-Italian another hetalian here!

This is so wonderful! I spend so much money on ears that are very difficult to apply. This is so simple and the ears look very natural as well.
I was really waiting for this DIY :D thank you so much for uploading it, Klaire ❤
Glad you found it helpful! :D
It can't be any easier and they look gorgeous. What a cool tutorial! I love it 👍
I am gonna cosplay Link from Zelda, at some point, so this is a really handy tutorial. Cheers Klaire :D
How talented & creative you are! I just enjoy watching you create beautiful items from a hot glue gun.
This tutorial is amazing! It really helped with one of my cosplays!
Thanks a lot for this video! After a bit of trial and error these worked out perfectly for me! I'd recommend spirit gum as adhesive if you plan on reusing the prothstetics. Plus it gives a really strong bond to your skin so they'll stay put all day
This is the best I've seen for DIY ears! You rock! Thank you! :)
This is an awesome tutorial - clear and simple and with cheap supplies - ideal!! Thank you so much!!
I'm probably going to try and make some Seadweller ears for Eridan Ampora in a similar way, so thank you for the tutorial!
Tickan :D Homestuck
I wish homestuck didn't end.... IT SHOULD NEVER END!!
OMG! I was trying to find a Homestuck related comment and The one I found is about seadwellers!! Sweet!
I know I'm late
I found more Homestuck people! I'm trying to find easy ways to make Cronus's ears for my Halloween costume and future cosplays
Thank you sooooooo much. I didn't want to try at first because it looked really hard, but it was a lot easier than I thought. It worked perfectly. Thank you!!!!
The best elven ears tutorial on the whole YpuTube, congrats :D
you can use a brush washed with soap but not rinsed before use it with latex, as with gum reserve in drawing ;)
mine didn't turn out right at all ugh how do i always manage to fail at things as simple as this
Takes a lot of practice! Keep practicing ^~^
it's ok cermet
This is brilliant! Love the ideas you come up with, I'm so impressed!
Great tutorial! I might use this when i get enough supplies
This tutorial has come at the perfect time! I have an elf tutorial that I'm working on soon and this is going to take it to the next level, thanks so much, I'll make sure I'll send people your way for this technique n_n
Thank you so much!!! I didn't know why I didn't think of liquid latex! Yahhh!! Now I don't have to do that painful looking think of taping your ear!!
Oh! This is very helpful and I will definitely use it! Always thought of ordering elf ears but I was not so sure if they'd really fit and just look weird. So thanks a lot!
This is a brilliant technique!
wow looks so real at the end good job.
Thx I am going to be an elf (Lord of the rings inspired) and I was confused on how to make the ears so I looked it up and found you.new subscriber!
this is good for my dark link cosplay
I'm so glad you made this video! I needed fake ears for my Halloween costume and I couldn't figure out how I could do it
You saved my money :) I was going to buy them :P so simply and amazing result, thank you!
I am going to try this out! Awesome tutorial :D and a lot cheaper then buying prosthetics ^^!
Greetings from the Netherland :)
its great ! I want it because i love Lord of the rings ! ( sorry for my bad english but i am from the Nederlands ) Xxx
Woooww. I don't believe you, you spelt Netherlands wrong.
XxKawaii DeinoxX ik ben toch echt Nederlands hoor anders zou ik dit niet kunnen schrijven. I am really Netherlands because i can spel this 🔝 i live in Limburg,Nerherlands.
@ Kawaii Deino You're really rude.
He/she only said you spelt it wrong not that you aren't from the netherlands
He/she said : ' i don't believe you'
I thought this was going to be super difficult! Thank you for sharing. :)
My question is, are you able to use the ears over and over again? The reason I am asking is because I am doing a cosplay that requires the ears at all times (Thranduil from the Hobbit) therefore I won't have time to make the ears over and over again.
I believe you can.
Alright, because I needed to know since I will be buying latex sometime soon
Well, you can always apply some new latex, so there's no need to worry!
three years late but lotion will help guide the latex off so that you can keep the ears
This is amazing! I've been searching for something like this for a long time! Thanks for the video!
Absolutely amazing! Thanks for showing us! 😊
If you do want to use a brush, you can soak it in turpentine over night to disolve the latex and wash it with warm water.
Oh my god, I REALLY love your tutorials !!
this will work perfectly for my Hearstone cosplay in about two weeks for a convention!
Can you use them more than once i know it might be a dumb question but i just want to be sure
Love the tutorial! I'm doing something similar, but for my earlobes (I have to fake gauges for my Lars cosplay)
What can you use if you're allergic to latex?
Easy and looks good! I will definitely try this out!
great tips! I can be Vulcan like Mr. Spock's ears, too!
KewpieGirl amazhang
Something superrrr easy is applying rubber cement and pressing the ends of your ear together. Cheap and super easy
Are these able to be reused for numerous occasions or do you have to make several sets?
My Dad plays as Santa for numerous events all through November-December and he wants me to join him next year as one of his elves!
I found out I get to go to the renaisannce festival for a field trip this year, and I'm going as a woodland elf!
Thank you!! I just ordered my latex and no I can't wait to try this!
Thank you!! Dream come true!!! 😍😍😍
Is there anyway to do this without latex?? Im highly sensitive to latex but this looks really cool!!! Any ideas?
I got some normal latex elf ears off of Amazon, and was wondering how to pierce them? Mabey you could help 💖
1) Is the latex and prosthetics safe to use on sensitive skin?
2) Did you buy the supplies online or at a store?
some people are allergic to latex and I think can be quite harsh on sensitive skin, I use latex for my skin even though I have very sensitive skin (everyone's skin reacts differently so just do a small patch on your wrist just to plag safe)
Depending on which country you live in, some supplies can be easier or harder to find but I'm sure you can find normal modeling clay at your local craft store however, the liquid latex may be a bit trickier to find. if you can't find it at your art stores or any costume stores then go get it online instead
Thank you so much! I Really needed this for my Rin Okumura Cosplay!
I'm assuming this will work for longer teifling ears too? Or would they be too heavy?
Great video, thank you! Question though; would Play-doh work in place of the modeling clay? Or is it too porous for the liquid latex? Thanks in advance
So talented !
Your DIY videos are so helpful! Thank you, Klaire. c:
would it still work if it was longer? I want to make long elf ears for a high elf, but I dont know if it will be too heavy.
Is it possible to reuse the ears afterwards or is it a one time deal before having to make more?
wow so neat !! thanx klaire
The latex you used is that the same kind of latex from halloween stores? I can't get my hands on the bottle you used.
what type of modelling clay is it, do i need anything special or will it just work with any and is there a cheaper/easier alternative and also what was the powder you used on the latex i heard talcum powder but not what it was before..?? xx thank you :) xx
Just use some tape, clip it a little bit, put some clear nail polish on it to hold it down, let it dry, then add concealer, and viola you have yourself some elf ears for a day
Regan Ridings Yeah, iv'e heard of that technique! :) Thanks for commenting that tip by the way!
Freakin awesome! So going to do this for the gothic & fantasy fair next saturday!
Very good , what can I use if allergic to latex ?
So how would one go about removing these from the ear? Would these be reusable?
Love the music.
Is there an alternative adhesive? I don't like to use latex on my ear, any other suggestions? Just so you know, I'm from Australia so I may not be able to get my hands of particular things...
Grace Pearce yeah because its HER job to do research on what materials are available to you... Smh
Question: About how thick should the clay triangle mold be?
Hello! Nice tutorial! How long does it take latex to dry on your ear please?
Best tutorial on this. Thank you!!
I love it! Genius!
Can this technique be used to make larger ears or faun ears if you stuff the empty parts with cotton or something like that?
Yes you can :)
have you ever done any ears for someone who has a latex alergy?
Thank you, I wanted to know how to make them like forever now :)
Can I ask what the white "thing" you use is?? Uwhere can I buy it?? Thank you
Great! I'm gonna be Link for Halloween!
Late comment but can you use eyelash glue for it to stick?
uff ame tu tutorial solo una pregunta es plastilina o es algun material especial la masa blanca? saludos desde mexico

I love this I hope u do more I did it for Halloween it worked thanks
❤❤❤
Can I use the same technique to make other prosthetics like pointy cheekbones?
Yup you could :)
Can you use air dry clay? (Sorry if this is a dumb question)
Can you make them like longer or something I’m just wondering
Omg this is so helpful fot my asuna cos!!
One of my ears look kind of like and elf ear, it curves backwards to a point while my other ear has a point but doesn’t curve backwards.
How long does it take for the coat to dry? Mine just doesnt dry..looks like ill do 1 coat a day and maybe finish a ear in one week haha... *cry*
