Yay! I'm definitely going to use the liquid latex option for my ears! I'm in a Christmas parade for Toys For Tots and I'm gonna be the elf. I wanted some ears for it instead of a hat with felt ears. This is super useful and helpful. YOU ARE A SAINT!!! SAINT I TELL YOU!!!👍♥️
Hey the 3rd step is definitely useful, thanks! When I took a theater makeup class back in college one of our projects was "fantasy character". A girl did the elf queen Titania from Midsummer night's dream, and made long ears for the character. I couldn't figure out how/where she'd gotten them at the time but now I have the right idea!! 😃
i have one in addition to this video, in case anyone wants to have another option! I used two paperclips, paper, toilet paper and a gluestick and some tape! i started by bending the paperclips ends,so it gives a shape similar to an ear(just bend out the ends a little, you can also adjust it by trying to fit it on your ear) it is supposed to go completely around your ear, so it holds it in place. also, ive used paperclips with little knobs at the ends, so it doesnt hurt or scratch when i wear them, you could also just put a little bit of hot glue or clay at the ends i guess. then i drew the shape of the ears on the paper, make sure that the non-triangle end(where its gonna go onto your ear) is shaped like the paperclip, since youre gonna be connecting these two! also, you can make them as large or small as you want, you can even make other shapes by just drawing them on the paper. then, youre gonna take the tape (or hot glue, doesnt rly matter) and just tape the paper onto the paperclip. make sure it is well connected, you can also use a couple of layers of the tape for that. Then, I just took my gluestick and glued a lot of toilet paper onto the ears, making little sausages and then smoothing them out. This part can take a little long, depending on how realistic youre trying to make your ears. Also, just try to experiment a bit, youll find the hang of it quickly, even if it sounds confusing at first. To top it off, I colored the ears to make them match my skintone, and you can also use darker shades to accentuate where the shadows are supposed to be. youll have two elve/fairy ears which you can take on and off and they should hold really well, even when running! :)
This is a life saver! I am still newer to cosplaying, especially making them at home, and I was gonna be Len Kagamine from Dream-Eating Monochrome Baku. Most tutorials I saw didn’t have the right shape, but your was perfect! Thanks for making my life easier!
I'm so glad!!! I did recently put out a more updated / realistic version of elf ears as well!! It's with latex/tissue and another one with Crayola modeling clay and latex !
Amé este proyecto, de hecho acabo de terminar mis orejas y quedaron muy reales. Paso un tip que a mí me sirvió mucho, en vez de usar papel rígido usé papel de servilleta y se ve mucho mejor
So for doing the 3rd DIY, I’ve run into a small issue. Applying the latex is pretty hard and awfully sticky, so once I’ve gotten it all applied how do I make sure it doesn’t completely stick to the clay? I’m using porcelain clay and I’m letting it dry so then I can apply the liquid latex after and it won’t be as hard to peel off/apply. Will this work? Also, what kind of powder are you using when you put it on the ear before you peel off the latex?
Del so the clay I used was just air dry from the dollar store. Any clay should work. Just make sure it’s hard /set. Latex will peel off any smooth surface. Apply the latex over the front, sides and back. You need atleast 5 coats! You can wait for each to dry or use the blow drier in between. I was using a Mac foundation powder , studio fix. But honestly any powder will work even if you have baby powder. How that helps ?
I wonder if since all the detail was on the clay, you can put the ear inside out after taking it off the clay? So that the smooth finish with the most detail is on the outside?
illuminaudy - they could have as well tho...if it was under sum.makeup on IG then its me but if not they stole it lol wouldn’t be surprised , happens a lot
I know you mentioned any clay and any liquid latex will do, but I've been getting some ugly reviews on both and would like to know the brands you used just to make things easier.
I'm doing this for Halloween and cozplays ! I'm going to do a giant flopped elf ears I got loads of masking tape and in going to use lipstick to make blush and red hands and a shade for the ears
The Hobbit movies used latex ears and they couldn't reuse them because the heat on set would melt them so I don't think so, and they shouldn't take too long to set (sorry if this was late)
If you think it sounds mean why even post it ? I dont mind but that's the point of the video. Some ppl don't have access to the expensive ears or party stores. This is for any age to be able to have options to create something !
I’m wearing these to school, (this is inspired by a diff comment, this wasn’t my idea) and if anyone sees them and I realize they saw them, I’m just gonna freak out like they weren’t supposed to see them
Not everyone has access to latex or the time ...depending what your budget is, paper and tape it perfectly fine. The title says 3 simple ways ....not one. Thanks for your input tho !
I'm a elf I'm gonna where it at school✡❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Can the clay be non-drying or does it need to be hardened? (Sorry if I missed the answer in the video)
Needs to be hard before you apply the latex! And no problem I may have forgot to mention it
@@summer.stockwell Thank you!

Thank you so much. I'm gonna be an elf ❣️
I know you mentioned any clay and any liquid latex will do, but I've been getting some ugly reviews on both and would like to know the brands you used just to make things easier.
I got the clay from the dollar store and liquid latex from my local party store!

Honey, you saved me today✨

can you use play-doh or does it have to be modelling clay ?
Yes it could be playdough, you just have to wait for it to fully dry and be hard before you put the latex on!

thank god for you, i need ears for a cosplay!
About how long does option three take in real time? And are they reusable?
We are doing the Hobbit and I’m considering being a makeup tech lol
The Hobbit movies used latex ears and they couldn't reuse them because the heat on set would melt them so I don't think so, and they shouldn't take too long to set (sorry if this was late)
Super glue also works just glue the tips together and to take it off use nail polish remover
im trying to make Waluigi ears XD
Aw awesome !!! Good luck!!!
I'm in love with your lipstick too. Going for the latex ear tips for Halloween!
thank you so much! Hope it turns out for you!
I’m watching this bc my prosthetic elf ears for cosplay are gonna come in late 😃😃

What if I want realistic elf ears but I'm allergic to latex
What if all you have is green tape?
How do you take the tape one off
Just pull it up and it should come off !
@@summer.stockwell it ripped my hair out :(

2023 anyone?
I came here because of Shannara Chronicles
Awesome !!
its christmas spirit week at my school and on thursday is dress like an elf so im gonna be prepared
Yay!!!! So glad this will help you!!
Guys dont do any of these! Just use lash glue and fold your ears to a point while glued. It works amazing and looks much more realistic.
i tried that and never worked for me, i don't know why :(
thaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnkkkkkk yyyyooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Well, I guess it's good for just playing, but I am just going to use this as an option for really cheap ones. You tried
