    I'm the customer for this laptop. I will pay him for the chip. I just emailed him to remind him of the water damage this received on the power side (left side) and some of the components look corroded and burnt out. Mosfet? Not sure but i wonder if thats the source of the problem?

    I think it can be a shorted first or second mosfet like what happened in a video about Acer chromebook. Can also be a broken EC data line. That's what I believe, 50mA is a lot if the chipset is just reading the bios.

  • @Ohms90
    @Ohms90 10 месяцев назад +2

    Sorin, programming the EC chip or at least trying to read it before replacing it would have shown if it was damaged or not especially since it was not shorted (may be for the next time). Any how I really enjoyed this video because it was very educational and you walked us through all aspects of the laptop power-up which I am still struggling to understand. Great work!

    (14:05) Of course NO, you are not the only one who feels bad about failing, since my distant school days I bought everything for double (I even built the circuits on two breadboards) and at the exact moment when he (The instructor or teacher) wanted to see how it worked, they both failed! when half an hour before both were working fine. In today's real work life, it may happen that when the customer comes to pick up their device, it does not work! I take off my glasses, put both hands on my temples and look at the sky... Need I say more? All the best.
    PS: That subject of logic & digital circuits made me suffer... Microprocessors? Another hellish stuff ☹.

I'm coming to the conclusion that certain companies are producing units that are at the same level as modern printers....They are "throwaways" soon after the warranty expires. I had used ASUS motherboards in many desktops machines, and had no problems with them. Good quality, price and Linux compatibility. That was about 10 years ago. I guess a lot had changed since then. CPU and memory chips soldered on the board is now a dead giveaway they want the board to fail early, but just out of warranty (can they arrange the failure in programing ??)

    1st check SM_D SM_C comminication on battery side is that going on means battery detected by io then This issue could be also from Thermal IC and Charging IC which is in connection with IO and battery and also with CPU .
    IF Thermal IC NTC Resister or BJT is damaged it will not allow anyother Activity to happen even Battery Charging.

      no because the laptop turns on , you are right if the laptop was working fine but just doesn't charge the battery but in his case it is irrelevant. the laptop doesn't response to the power button and I believe it is a shorted pch . i faced the same exact issue on an hp laptop tried everything yet still light on power button as soon as you connect the charger and doesn't power off or on when pressing on the power button, out of Desperation I re flowed the PCH and guess what that fixed the problem and battery turned on and booted, also responded to the power button and battery charged and consumed regular amp . before reflow it was always taking 500 ma no matter what . he can try to reflow the pch if still not working just call it a day and write off.

    Mr Sorin. I have a very very strange and unique problem with my Alienware X15 r2 laptop . I7 12700h and RTX 3070ti. I hope you read this and can give me an idea what might be wrong .
    My laptop works perfectly , for days and days as long as I don't turn it off , as long as I keep it in sleep mode .
    But once I turn it off and instantly back on or reboot it, I get blinking error code "2red 3 blue" , which means" ram not found"
    But if I wait 5 to 10min and turn it on the laptop turns on normal.
    Now I have replaced the bios chip, but the problem is still there , so this s not it.
    While the laptop is on I have run prime 95 and all kind of memory tests for 2 days, and no error has been showned, everything is perfect.
    My next idea is to try and replace the EC chip
    This is a very mysterious case I have never experienced, do u have any idea what is wrong ?

      You did not ask me what was the fault? You only asked me have you fixed it and i replied Yes. So where is the “Secret” ? I don’t do youtube and reason is i run the whole repair lab and repair for shops and company so i hardly get time to make a video and upload it. Regarding that repair on my machine had similar symptoms and it was SPI termination resistor which suppose to be 15 ohm resistance and one of them was reading high resistance since ec has to communicate with bios first on i2c data line if any resister on that line is faulty laptop will not respond to power button also. Secondly newer bios has PMIC firmware also unlike old bios has only bios+ME region. So i had this same laptop few months ago with battery not charging and it was pmic firmware issue. Hopefully it answered your question. Not all the time you get same fault and same solution you have diagnose it throughly and prepare for the worse since im repaing for shops and company you can expect they try to fix them if fails then they pass on to me.
