I think it can be a shorted first or second mosfet like what happened in a video about Acer chromebook. Can also be a broken EC data line. That's what I believe, 50mA is a lot if the chipset is just reading the bios.
Sorin, programming the EC chip or at least trying to read it before replacing it would have shown if it was damaged or not especially since it was not shorted (may be for the next time). Any how I really enjoyed this video because it was very educational and you walked us through all aspects of the laptop power-up which I am still struggling to understand. Great work!

why not try your heat cam again without the heatsink, maybe u see a specific thing on that pch. And also why there is a 0.5 add to the current when connecting that ssd..maybe remove also that wifi module

Hi Sorin! I have the same problem, Asus a509j motherboard at some point the laptop turn on and after I shut down didn't turn on again, white led is on but nothing else
Hi 1st check SM_D SM_C comminication on battery side is that going on means battery detected by io then This issue could be also from Thermal IC and Charging IC which is in connection with IO and battery and also with CPU . IF Thermal IC NTC Resister or BJT is damaged it will not allow anyother Activity to happen even Battery Charging.
After seeing those Data on DSO it say CPU is trying to ON and somewhere stuck because of unavailability of COIN Cell so Also again goes to Thermal IC and On board RAM.
I watched the video a second time and I remember that regarding the fact that the battery is not charging, the problem could be with the first MOSFET....?
no because the laptop turns on , you are right if the laptop was working fine but just doesn't charge the battery but in his case it is irrelevant. the laptop doesn't response to the power button and I believe it is a shorted pch . i faced the same exact issue on an hp laptop tried everything yet still light on power button as soon as you connect the charger and doesn't power off or on when pressing on the power button, out of Desperation I re flowed the PCH and guess what that fixed the problem and battery turned on and booted, also responded to the power button and battery charged and consumed regular amp . before reflow it was always taking 500 ma no matter what . he can try to reflow the pch if still not working just call it a day and write off.
