Apart from when it turned into "bounce constantly to dodge". I feel this is more a perfected counter from Other M combined with the classic 2-D system updated for the better controls.
I almost cried when I saw this. Metroid 2 was my first Metroid game and to have it remade for the 3DS is amazing. A new Prime AND 2D Metroid? Best E3 ever!
Original composer, Original creator and Original level designer of Super metroid, fusion and Zero mission are working on this game. I have 100% faith that this game is going to be super good.
Also he is responsible for Super metroid, fusion, metroid 1 and Metroid zero mission and he was also metroid prime 1 supervisor.. You cannot just drop all of his hard work and reputation just because he made metroid other m.. This is so stupid.
Titanfall222 jorge No, but Other M was the latest of his hard work. Much like Lucas with his Star Wars prequels. We can still be cautiously optimistic.
It was his first 3D game ever and he said many times that this game does not need overhaul.. Its already good and they want just perfect it. With metroid other m he was burn out by the 2D games... he wanted to create something different.
Team Ninja is responsible for the gameplay, which I liked. It was a very linear game, lacking the isolation and general feel of previous games, but I actually enjoyed the way the game played. My reasoning for being cautiously optimistic is the story Sakamoto wrote and his characterization of Samus. That was all him. So, Other M could creep in on this reimagining in the form of story or characterization... That could be worrying.
This game will look absolutely incredible in 3D. At first I questioned why this wasn't a Switch game, but now I see why after downloading the 3D trailer off the eshop. Can't wait to dig into this one last big adventure on my 3DS.
Indeed... AM2R was, no exaggeration, my favorite Metroid so far, just barely beating out Prime 2. I'm still willing to give this a chance, but the fact they included ANYTHING from Other M... that worries me. I mean, not counting the original versions of 1 and 2 (and Hunters, I assume), Other M was my LEAST favorite entry, and a big portion of why it's THAT high is how painful on the eyes and ears those others were! I may still have ENJOYED Other M, but it removed several parts I loved and added quite a bit that I loathed... INCLUDING MELEE COMBAT. Still, there's room for TWO great Metroid 2 Remakes, so if this turns out fine I'll cherish them both.
Currently playing Prime 2 right now. The GC version, running it on Dolphin in HD and a widescreen mod. Played it on the Wii back when the Trilogy was released but never finished it. Awesome game so far. Yeah, you make a good point about room for two remakes, especially if they offer two totally different experiences. As someone who also felt AM2R was an awesome remake, I'm rooting for this one too.
Guys, we HAVE to buy these to show Nintendo that we love Metroid. Sure, there's a solid fan base, but money is the biggest factor for these companies. We MUST show them that we want Metroid here to stay buy purchasing these new games
The Metroid fanbase has really pissed me off lately, and while I'd prefer for them to meet the same fate as F-Zero fans, I'm also not going to deny a good game when I see it just because of my undying hate for its fanbase. In case you STILL didn't get it, I hate the Metroid fanbase, but I'm not passing up M2: Samus Returns just to spite said fanbase.
I just don't get why you hate the fanbase. It's one of the most passionate video game fanbases out there. We all love Metroid and are so supportive of Yoshio Sakamoto and his efforts to bring it back. Is this the first Metroid game you will have played?
The Metroid fanbase isn't bad at all. They've just gotten antsy from the long wait. PAPER MARIO, on the other hand, I don't see why Sticker Star and Color Splash get so much senseless hate.
DVGaming For Paper Mario, I believe for most people it's because it changed so drastically from the original 3 games that it removed all the things we enjoyed about it. At least, that's why I don't like it, and seems to be the reason for most other people as well. I'm sure Color Splash is a good game, but Thousand Year Door was one of my favorite childhood games and introduced me into RPGs entirely. Sticker Star and Color Splash just aren't the same for me without the star powers, having limited attacks and not really giving the player a reason to fight (I know CS gives paint storage upgrades. It's not really the same.) But I've come to accept that Paper Mario won't be the game I want it to be, so I'm just avoiding it now. People probably will enjoy SS and CS, and that's great, but they're not the kind of games I want to play, and I don't want to support the change with my money either. That doesn't make them bad games--just games that don't appeal to me. It's cool there's some support for them though. Maybe Paper Mario will still be alive in the future. That'll be cool, regardless of whether or not they go back to their roots or continue the SSCS formula. I can say the music is a major part of PM for me, and SSCS definitely don't disappoint in that regard! ...but why are we talkin' about Paper Mario here? Let the Metroid fans have their party, they deserve it now. I'm happy seeing them be happy about their revived franchise.
0:13 He's not the creator of the Metroid series, hes the *co-creator.* There's a difference. In fact, Genpei Yokoi, the creator of the GameBoy and D-pad for Nintendo, is the real creator of Metroid. Unfortunately, he passed away.
kimi guya The Co-creator, Sakamoto, fetishizes about Samus. This was known way back during the release of Super Metroid from interviews. It became apparent with Fusion, and ESPECIALLY Other M. Do some research and find out for yourself if you don't believe me.
The name was definitely appropriate because the last entry in the series to be up to the quality standard of the series was released just over a decade before (MP3).
Kirby, Metroid, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon, Mario + Rabbids, Yoshi, Arms, Sonic Mania, Sonic Forces, and the main series Pokemon game for the Switch are going to obliterate people's wallets.
I sold my 3DS a while ago because of the Switch, but I will buy another just to play this god damn game. Metroid has always been my favorite Nintendo franchise, this E3 made me cry tears of joy smh.
I love that they are going to explore the Chozo civilization more in this. The combat is very dynamic. I also have to say that this is one of the best looking games on the 3DS I am surprised that it is not exclusive to the "New" line. Additionally I downloaded the trailer and again this has the best stereoscopic 3D of any 3DS title I have ever played, I might just play it with the 3D on all the time.
So amazing to see a remake of my favorite game in the series! Can't wait for it to come out! For those of you who haven't played it...2 introduced the baby Metroid that was so pivotal in Super Metroid's story.
Donald Trump And the creator acknowledged that his efforts were fruitless. He knew that his 10 year passion was infringing on someone else's IP. So, if the creator accepts it's fate then why can't everyone else? And yes, AM2R totally hurt Nintendo. There are still people out there who won't purchase Samus Returns because it's not AM2R.
+Chozodianemissary Those people are really close-minded, especially since the creator of AM2R is excited for this game. Their loss, tons of fans will still buy it.
Exactly! He's excited that Nintendo is giving Samus her well deserved love. But folks would rather have something to complain about than join in on that love. I'm a little cautiously optimistic due to Mercury Steam working on the game but I really did enjoy Mirror of Fate on the 3DS, even though it was a very watered down Castlevania. And Sakamoto... He is the person responsible for Other M's story and characterization. But I'm hoping he learned from that game. I'm sure Samus Returns will be great despite my reservations. I'm just happy she's back!
I've been waiting patiently. Fusion was my first Metroid, it'll be grand to re-experience the game Fusion took so much inspiration from. Long live Sidescroller Metroid! Also, HD Super Metroid 2020!
This game is being made by Mercury Steam (the developers of Castlevania Lords of Shadow 1+2 and Mirror of Fate). I personally like those games quite a bit, but some people despise what they've done to Castlevania. Just want to put that out there.
I should also mention that, based on employee accounts, Dave Cox (producer from Konami) was the real problem the team had. He was apparently awful to work with and made awful decisions that substantially affected their work. Grains of salt as always.
Welp, good presentation, not horrible e3. Sure there was no Smash, Animal Crossing, Kid Icarus, and other, but we all had fun right? Lets keep being Nintendo fans and keep supporting them in everyway!
They can't give us everything at once, we had enough this E3 imo. Next year I hope they reveal Smash, Golden Sun and F-Zero as well as Retro Studio's mystery project
A new Kid Icarus is unlikely since Sakurai said he's not into it. But we're 2 new Metroid games (Prime 4 is still in dev, but sitll) so you never know. Smash for the Switch is almost guaranteed just due to the nature of the Switch. I would also love a new AC.
I really have a hard time supporting them when they still do thing like strike youtuber's who just upload gameplay, some being reviewers that were given the game by Nintendo.
Metroid Zero was essentially a remake of Metroid. This is a remake of Metroid 2. So, does that mean Nintendo will eventually remake Super Metroid? If so, hopefully it will be on the Nintendo Switch.
It definitely doesn't. I've tried it, and movement is really floaty when compared to the GBA games. Selecting weapons is also pretty different to the GBA games.
When Nintendo removed links to AM2R (not wrote a Cease and Desist letter as many people think), I was mad, mostly because I thought that Nintendo couldn't possibly do it better. But after seeing this, I understand why they did what they did- and that I was wrong. This looks fantastic, and I think Nintendo was just trying to make sure that AM2R wouldn't undermine this. Not saying it would've, but I understand where they're coming from now.
with all the respect but this remake looks a lot A LOT better than the fan game remake but its ok, they have all the technology to make game so fast and better quality
The one cool mechanic the Metroid series pulled from Other M is the idea of Samus using melee attacks. I hope they implement it in Prime 4 to some degree. Not as a primary method of defeating enemies, but the idea of it being able to stun quick-moving targets would be neat.
found myself thinking, "oh my god this looks so much like the originals did," the puzzles, the movements and combat, the navigation (i'm extremely happy they aren't using much touch for combat or walking), so excited for this, it looks like they really wanted to do metroid justice this time around.
You do realize that song predates Metroid Prime, right???... -_- ... It's originally from Super Metroid and has been used in most Metroid titles since. It's the series' general "fire level" theme.
if i were you I wouldnt expect to see any gameplay or even screenshots for along time, if all they had to say was "Now in development" It probably is in the early stages of being made.
My favorite part of the game was the queens lair because I truly felt isolated; it was dark and gritty! I hope they still keep the dark tone as you go deeper into SR388!!
Well not exactly, you see the metroid 2 fan game was released a year in it's full version but it was developped in the span of nearly a decade. Multiple demos (alpha and betas and such) were released during this decade. The fact that Nintendo waited for the full version to take it down is a bit douchy in my opinion. They should have done this way earlier so the creator of the remake wouldn't have to waste his time creating a game which was immediatly taken down after it's full release.
Do we know that Nintendo was aware of the project during its development, or did it become apparent to them after it was released and more heavily circulated/discussed? Regardless, the games seem to have completely different feel. The fan one is loosely based on Super Metroid with its physics, and this game utilizes more fluid directional aiming and some close quarters counters.
From wikipedia: "The game's controls are less "floaty" than those of the original, and feature new abilities such as grabbing onto ledges, being more in line with the gameplay the series has employed since the Super NES game Super Metroid (1994)." "Guasti created the game with the intention of recreating the fast pace of Metroid: Zero Mission's gameplay, and the "atmosphere and solitude" of Super Metroid" "At first the remake followed the original Metroid II's map layout and already existing sprites from Metroid: Zero Mission and Super Metroid." The game's an amalgamation of different things, but the GBA games owe a lot of their gameplay to Super Metroid. Since Zero Mission was a remake of the the first game to make it more in line with Super Metroid, I would say I'm correct.
What, do you want her to drop like an anchor? I don't see that as floaty. That was purposely done so that the player can keep track of Samus as the camera pans/transitions to another screen. It's the physics of this game. The other games in the series had their own physics, but none of them are realistic or take into account the weight of the Power Suit , especially considering you have an intergalactic bounty hunter traversing numerous planets with their own gravitational force, all the while freely jumping and spinning in the air. I really don't think the pacing of the game will be affected all that much, especially when you typically are impeded by obstacles to slow you down as you land in those narrow morph ball segments anyway. I don't see what you're seeing with the running animation, even when I slowed down the footage. I think you're really stretching to nitpick if that's your example of the game being unfinished.
Oh look, Another Metroid 2 Remake!
lmao!
PixxelTrixx exactly...
I'm impressed!!!
More like *another* another Metroid 2 remake!
labrynianrebel English? *Yet* Another Metroid 2 Remake.
This still doesn't feel real man. Are we all dreaming?
BillFrypher what if nightmare is behind all this! 😨
Rundas oh god not nightmare..
the nightmare would be waking up.
Nope! We're getting the 2D version of Other M we all so desperately crave!!....
We're all living the dream.
did anyone else hear that SWEET LOWER NORFAIR theme from super metroid!? oh the nostalgia
Just coming back to this from the Metroid Dread trailer.
That combat system is so solid.
Looks like they're taking the good aspects of Other M and putting them in a game that will actually be good overall.
"good aspects of Other M"
Other M's combat was pretty good, it was the awful exploration-lacking level design and horrible story that killed it.
Apart from when it turned into "bounce constantly to dodge". I feel this is more a perfected counter from Other M combined with the classic 2-D system updated for the better controls.
wow, no. just no. 2d Metroid isnt supposed to have combat, it never has. it never needed it, it doesnt now.
22:50 That Lower Norfair theme remix sounds splendid.
Glad to see Nintendo listened to us and gave us some Metroid. now we need some F zero, 1080 snowboarder and Animal Crossing.
Forget those, we need an even more forgotten franchise to return. We need Startropics!
we need golden sun too :(
Nacho Conchetumadre Camelot is busy, working on another stupid Mario sport game, sorry...
yeah, that's a shame man
C Cii 1080 wtf lol
These new Metroid titles have got me more excited than any game announcement ever has. I cannot wait for September 15th. Make it awesome, Nintendo
I almost cried when I saw this. Metroid 2 was my first Metroid game and to have it remade for the 3DS is amazing. A new Prime AND 2D Metroid? Best E3 ever!

NEVER FORGET
Fat Boy The gravity suit glitch is a bit frustrating though.
CaXX Yup, too bad a lot of people didn't get the update in time.
Living_Floor There was an update?! Dang it.
I won't forget. I just never cared in the first place.

No wonder Nintendo had Another Metroid 2 Remake killed...

Never played a metroid game, is this the game I should start with?
TheJadog 17 nah mate start with super metroid, use an emulator if you dont have it
the best sequence to play is: Zero Mission, Super Metroid, Fusion,
Zero Mission is the easiest to jump into, then go for Super or Fusion.
Zero Mission for the Advanced.
Play Zero Mission first. It's the first Metroid game remade and the first in the Metroid timeline
This looks freaking amazing thank you so much for this godlike remake PLEASE MAKE PRIME 4 LIT
We want Metroid Prime 4!!
We're getting Metroid Prime 4!!
Just be patient. I'd rather see it when it's closer to being done than now when it's probably only half finished.
found myself thinking, "oh my god this looks so much like the originals did," the puzzles, the movements and combat, the navigation (i'm extremely happy they aren't using much touch for combat or walking), so excited for this, it looks like they really wanted to do metroid justice this time around.

This is the most screwed-up I have ever seen RUclips.
So stoked for this.
*Yeah, Nintendo won this year.*
I NEED IT
They used the same sound track from metroid prime 1's magmoor caverns for the fire area in this new metroid game
You do realize that song predates Metroid Prime, right???... -_- ... It's originally from Super Metroid and has been used in most Metroid titles since. It's the series' general "fire level" theme.
Her voice helps me sleep. I'm not saying her voice over is bad; it's just very soothing

Derek DeSmet YES
It was almost assuredly greenlit shortly after Federation Force was released. Don't expect anything concrete for a while.
patience, boy/girl/person.
My favorite part of the game was the queens lair because I truly felt isolated; it was dark and gritty! I hope they still keep the dark tone as you go deeper into SR388!!
What is this!? They'd better drop this "Metroid" crazy idea and go make a Federation Force 2 asap. Ridiculous.

Can't Wait To Play This Game!!!
How much do you want to bet that someone from Nintendo saw AM2R and said "hey, maybe we should do this"?
0% chance. The game has been in development for 2 years. AM2R? Released about a year ago.
The physics are based on the GBA Metroid games. Not sure where you got the Super Metroid from.
From wikipedia:
"The game's controls are less "floaty" than those of the original, and feature new abilities such as grabbing onto ledges, being more in line with the gameplay the series has employed since the Super NES game Super Metroid (1994)."
"Guasti created the game with the intention of recreating the fast pace of Metroid: Zero Mission's gameplay, and the "atmosphere and solitude" of Super Metroid"
"At first the remake followed the original Metroid II's map layout and already existing sprites from Metroid: Zero Mission and Super Metroid."
The game's an amalgamation of different things, but the GBA games owe a lot of their gameplay to Super Metroid. Since Zero Mission was a remake of the the first game to make it more in line with Super Metroid, I would say I'm correct.
I appreciate her being good at this game.

*K*
Know what would be cool, continuing after the Metroid 2 plot and putting Super Metroid into it as well. And please release a playable demo.
This looks slow paced and unfinished. Can't wait to get it and try it out myself, and hopefully bring my negativity to shame!
Neffets might be the player
(fingers crossed)
Where does this look sluggish and/or unfinished? Have you played 2D metroid?
