    Really appreciate your videos. As someone who has wanted to make the move from controller to a proper sim racing rig your advice has helped a lot. It sounds like it's perhaps best to save the extra money for a more mid-range rig and cut out the costly year 1 upgrades. Like they say "buy once, cry once".

    • @MichaelSmithRaces
      @MichaelSmithRaces  8 месяцев назад

      @doobyscoo Thanks for the comment! Yes to me the most important change was getting a dedicated space where the wheel is setup and the little extra money for aluminium profile rig made a lot of sense to me as a great foundation!

  • @thereverent117
    @thereverent117 7 месяцев назад +2

    Awesome video quality!
    I would advice to lower your seat by removing the two 4080 profiles and mounting the seatbracked onto the two beams below that. this way your butt and heels are closer to the same height, which is common in most racecars. that way also the steering wheel is higher relative to you. it shoud be so far away that your arms bend about 90° while holding it and the wheel axle should point to where your neck meets your upper torso. this way you have the most optimal position to use your upper body muscles to hold the steering wheel.
    all just suggestion of course but for me this made a crazy difference to my immersion and level of fun. i would also lower the screens as much as possible to have a realistic view through and over your steering wheel.
    im excited for more videos about your equipment :)
    best of luck with your channel!

    • @MichaelSmithRaces
      @MichaelSmithRaces  7 месяцев назад

      @thereverent117 thanks for the detailed comment, much appreciated! Unfortunately I had my rig like that in what I like to think of as an immersive van driver position :) due to a lower back problem I am suffering from. However I did recently remove the profile again like you suggest, and have added and removed it a few times over the past months to see how much I can tolerate it and it is a better driving position for sure! Something that I hope will eventually be fully resolved, but in the meantime I just make do as best I can!

    I have a GT Omega Classic wheel.stand that slides under.my.desk up to my Thrustmaster wheel base. I run triple 24" (primary is AOC, and the two sides.are my son's unwanted Viewsonics). They are on my desk, which is just slightly forward than they should, but not horrible. But they are only 60hz.
    I got my T300RS and T3PA-Pro pedals used for $500 CND. But after buying the desk, chair, wheel stand, Sparco P310 wheel, shifter, handbrake, accessories, new PC, my total is getting very close to the $10k CND mark.

    Thank you for the video! I'm planning to buy a sim lab cockpit with those three DELL monitors, their specs look fantastic for the budget, and it seems it goes a bit under the radar. @MichaelSmithRaces  8 месяцев назад

      @paulcorvus only thing to note is that you will need some spacers as the vesa mount is recessed in the monitor. I used m4 35mm bolts through the gtomega monitor mount, then used some plastic / nylon spacers to pad it out. Email me from the contact page if you want more information or that doesnt make sense!

    I'm not quite sure that you nailed the ergonomics on that rig 😁. You may wan't to adjust it "a little bit". The seat is equally as important as the brake. A good load cell pedal just doesn't work with a soft seat. You literally push yourself trough the seat. I learned that the expensive and painful way. I bought a "cheap" soft seat and it was horrible. Couldn't break consistently and developed lower back pain. If you upgrade your pedals, you really will need a seat that doesn't move and holds you in place when you apply pressure. There are so many channels that give advice on what to buy when you start out, but nobody talks about the importance of the seat.

    • @MichaelSmithRaces
      @MichaelSmithRaces  6 месяцев назад

      @mementomori4972 thanks for the comment, I am still dealing with a significant back issue myself, I had it before I got the gtomega, but I have for a while been suspecting it is certainly not helping... Do you have a seat recommendation? Should I go for the Sparco Grid Q? www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/sparco-grid-q-fibreglass-seat-s-s008009rnr/

    • @mementomori4972
      @mementomori4972 6 месяцев назад

      @@MichaelSmithRaces It's pricey but for sure a good option if you already suffer back pain, since you can optimize the fit with the cushions. Anything certified with a fiber glass or carbon fiber shell will do, really. People seem to be very happy with the NRG prisma (Sim Racing Garage has a video on it I believe). Whatever you buy, make sure to buy the right size for you. Avoid steel frame seats like the Sparco Sprint for example. Those have an elastic back rest and are more suitable for boats and such. The Trak Racer seats have a reputation, so avoid them too. Edit: the more I look at the Grid Q, the more I want it...

      @mementomori4972 6 месяцев назад

      @@MichaelSmithRaces I'm sorry about that 😅As always, it's just another opinion in the RUclips comment section. It's important though to get the best seat for you, due to your back issues. So what's right for most people might not be right for you. Maybe do some more research before you pull the trigger. Best would be if you actually could test a seat. Don't forget that there is an additional cost. You will need side mounting brackets too.

    Great vid, completely agree about the seat, wish some others had mentioned seat issues when reviewing gtomega, it would have avoided wasting £200+😂 on a seat that moves way too much and also sqeeks like crazy with the tiniest of movement😮😒, luckily i wear headphones most of time, however i still get greif from it as the mrs doesn't want to wear headphones whilst watching the tv 🙄😬 lol.
    Thank god I've large speakers for when she's out. 😂
    Will be interested to see what seat you replace with, also if could give your rough body measurements if do a vid on it as feel that may provide some useful insight and help towards avoiding another bum purchase 😅.

      P.s. as long as you upload and share for your pleasure in your timeframe, I don't think you can go wrong, the last thing you want to do is make it feel like it's just become work or a grind or it ends up getting you down or frustrated. (unless plan on making your fortune, if so good luck lol)
      Sharing is great, untill it's so much you won't have time to read or reply lol.
      I prefer smaller channels for a certain type of content tbh, bigger channels I use for research and to find out more about whats new, then read between the lines 😉 lol.
      Only problem is youtube falls short at showing this type of content, concentrating on large channels.
      Anyways... I hope you don't spend to much time pondering about is it worth it, especially when you have an awesome rig sat there for you own personal entertainment, enjoy life bro every chance you get ✌ 😂

      @Virtual_Racer_1 that sounds like a loaded question given your name!! I have a VR Centre near me and thats originally how I got into the idea of sim racing. It was excellent. To do VR I needed a new GPU, and thats how all this spiralled out of control. For now I thought there triples would be easier to hop in and go, but I have my eye on the meta quest 3 still. Having a dedicated sim is definitely a plus. is there any reason why you went with detached monitor stands instead of the attached ones on the rig?

    • @MichaelSmithRaces
      @MichaelSmithRaces  5 месяцев назад

      @xHMProductionx yes I looked at this for ages, initially I ordered integrated then cancelled it! There are two important reasons for me:
      1. you can move the rig more easily as you can slide it out without having a top heavy set of monitors attached to it
      2. the monitors will 100% shake around as the rig / wheel moves in use if they are not on a dedicated seperate floor stand

    • @xHMProductionx
      @xHMProductionx 5 месяцев назад

      @@MichaelSmithRaces oh good point. I didn’t think about that, #2 especially. I went integrated but never mounted only cause I use VR, and didn’t want it taking up space. I got them just for down the road, but probably will
      never use. I also plan on getting motion.

    I’m looking to get into pc sim racing from racing on a ps4-ps5. And man it gets expensive fast! The worst thing is the pc. If you want a powerful pc, that’s future proof it gets expensive.
    I’m honestly nervous to put all that money into sim racing, if I suddenly decide that it bores me or something.
    If I’m going all in here is what I’ll buy
    Powerful and future proof pc
    Asetek Forte wheel and base
    Heusinkveld sprint pedals and in time, their handbrake and MagShift
    Rig? I have a older model of the gt omega art, and that will have to do for now.
    Screen, to start I’ll use our main tv. And wenn I have saved money I’ll definitely be going for triple screens.

      😆 i tried the Asetek on my friends pc, and man it’s crazy coming from a G29🤤
      We ordered all the parts for my pc 2days ago, so it’s not build yet. But it’s I7 13700 and a RTX 4080 and 32 gb ram. So it should have power enough for 4k and VR and Triple screens if I want to try that in the future. But the plan is a ultra wide screen running 2k.

    • @simplymentalOG
      @simplymentalOG 8 месяцев назад

      Not wanting to disagree, imo i think you misunderstand what you may have heard, i would suggest if anything the screens need to be raised.
      Although you may get better results moving certain screen sizes closer and lower (everything is relative), i feel that is more important to get the center of screen at eye level, looking at the vid when op is sat on rig, if anything his eyes are all ready above the center, so moving down would make this a whole lot worse lol.
      Like said, everything is relative, if had larger monitors then that may have been the case.😉 😂

    "I run at 120hrz locked" You should check to see if those monitors support VFR. If they do, you shouldn't lock your frame rate, as the monitor will adjust to your game's fps

    • @MichaelSmithRaces
      @MichaelSmithRaces  8 месяцев назад

      @kainthereaper thanks for the comment. So far I have found that locking 120 is nicer than using VRR as then its really stable and the gpu is not running near its limits. I didnt find much visual difference going above 120, but I found a huge difference when using VRR if it dropped below 120. I hope to do a video on it. Do you use VFR / VRR and do you know roughly what framerate you run at?

    • @Kainthereaper
      @Kainthereaper 8 месяцев назад

      @@MichaelSmithRaces My gpu locks to the max fps of both my monitor and vr headset. But that said I simply set the max fps to that of my monitor and call it a day. I also turn off v-sync since that interferes VFR. If 120 is the max those monitors can do you might as well lock, but if they can go higher but you can't lock to it, I'd still suggest letting them move up and down on their own. Generally if you can hit 120 locked you shouldn't see dips below 120 if you unlock it. But again it depends on everyone's rig, settings, etc.
