Just a quick note on pricing and shipping costs. It seems the cost of shipping from Cammus varies massively depending on where you're located, so as always make sure you shop around and compare pricing of competitor products in your own region with your own taxes as it may well compeltely change what ends up being the best value for you.
I believe Pangnian on the Gold Coast have them listed at the same price as the Cammus website without the need to pay for international shipping. No shelf stock till later in the year though.
Shipping is what keeps me from considering Cammus as an option. It is 100$ shipping for boat (60+ days) or 230$ for air (7-10 days). And I don't see a US reseller that you can buy from.
Shame its $106 shipping to the u.s. this could have been a game changer. Hope they can get into stores or sell on a reputable site for significantly lower pricing/wait times
Same for me. After factoring in shipping, the Cammus and the Fanatec are only about 30$ apart. For the better pedals I would probably go Fanatec if I were buying now
I strongly disagree because these Chinese companies don't do any real innovations and don't have high development or design costs. Low prices will kill the non Chinese companies or stop them from innovating and have them only compete on existing techniques.
i have a Moza R5 and in F1 23 with 95% ffb strenght in game and Moza Racing YT channel settings, it gets very hot, after 10/15 laps the FFB becomes weak and some effects almost completely go away (like dampening and wheel friciton). does this happens to someone else?
That yellow power plug is an XT60 plug, used for RC planes, cars, helis and the like. They are very robust and will not wear out with the amount of times you will plug/unplug the unit. They are made to be plugged/unplugged a huge number of times so that is an excellent feature of this wheel
Its also really good because of how many buttons you have on the wheel. I play ATS all the time and theres so many functions that you would need three button boxes for the sim 😂
Honestly, with a larger rim (idk how you'd do it, but its gotta be possible somehow, hell, you could probably fit the motor bit inside a large airbag sttering wheel), and its ability to be tilted way more easily (so you get the proper steering wheel position instead of the more car-like one you tend to get with most bases) it'd be pretty awesome for heavy machinery and the like
I bought Fanatec direct from Fanatec and had to pay the import VAT. Sadly I have found that some UK distributors for Fanatec seem to hike up prices so in reality you pay the VAT twice. It's like they add the VAT at import then ask you to pay it again because of the legislation. Still works out cheaper to buy direct from Fanatec.
@@tonymarchese408 I guess what I really meant was the EU distributors. I'm in Sweden and my experience is that it's always cheaper to buy from within EU. I recon you're in UK? Considering that the EU market is a lot bigger than the stand-alone bexit UK market the prices probably reflects that
teardown! yess... anyway...i remember a couple years back testing friend's cammus 16nm DD.. several of their wheel button and the ever important paddle-shifter failed to function.... so lets see how this one over long term usage please?
While the wheel seems great, you skipped the key part about the HUGE shipping cost if trying to order this wheel from Cammus. If they offered free shipping, I'd be all over it.
@@KapperTubeyep unfortunately we can’t account for shipping costs in every region or the video would be far too long. Apparently they’re setting up some more local distribution which should hopefully reduce these costs. At the moment it’s crazy expensive.
The Cammus seems like a perfect pair to the Playseat challenge as an entry level rig. awesome value. $500 bucks and you get a DD wheel, pedals, and a rig that is super portable, lightweight and functional.
So... Being that the wheelbase is drilled to fit Fanatec's 4 hole mounting pattern. And the table clamp directly matches the wheelbase... You hear that fellas? The table clamp upgrade for your CSL-DD has arrived. No need to get the $60.00 Fanatec CS Table clamp for a more sturdy table clamp. At $30.00 Cammus had you covered. 😂
XT60 (60A current) plug is widely used among Radio Control products (battery terminals) and tested by enormous amount of people to be very reliable over time. Batteries are being exchanged thousands of times (at least 400-600 cycles for each battery) and there are no issues with this connector starting to be loose. Therefore, using it in a wheel when you'd be fixing it on table and connecting once is a total overshot.
I got the Fanatec but wow that price and wheel with 20 buttons plus 3 rotating buttons is a huge boost for beginners. Love the content thank you for your honesty and genuine care for everyone overall ❤
I'm kinda interested in taking the wheel apart, minus the base since it's a smaller setup with that sort of construction to see how easily i can attach a quick release system to it
i like everything about this wheel except the wheel itself and how it is mounted to the motor... i might buy it, use an angle grinder to cut the wheel off and bolt my own to the "buttonplate".
I ordered the available csl bmw kit after your video and was pleased that the upgrade to 8nm is available at a 33% discount when ordered with the kit. One note for UK buyers is that the included vat price on the website has the vat removed at checkout and is then part of the import cost. In total the 8nm csl dd in the UK came to £487
To anyone with the R5 that is experiencing the countersteer 'lag' don't worry, you can fix it. The key to having the wheel return properly when counter steering while drifting with the R5 is all in the moza pithouse settings you have. DO NOT use the default drift setting. You need to customize the FFB curves, turn ffb strength anywhere from to 70-100, set maximum wheel speed to 150-180% depending on the car pack. In assetto corsa, open python apps in game, select FFB controller, adjust car specific FFB (usually 40-60 range) then set all other settings like slips, road, bumps, ETC to 0. They are all just extra vibrations that you don't need. You can set road and slips to a lower setting if you'd like to get a tad bit of extra road feedback.Make sure to click 'save' in FFB controller before closing it so you won't have to adjust each car every time you leave a lobby. It sounds counter intuitive but it makes the wheel feel great. Make sure you have the correct settings in Content manager as well.
I hope Cammus launches in more developing countries. Here in India logitech has a complete hold in the market. I'm holding off on getting the T300 to see if I can get my hands on this.
Nice video! I'm quite impressed by how fast the C5 moved in drifting sequences. That fast response is also crucial for saving spins in circuit racing too, and that's often touted as one of the biggest gains of DD wheelbases, so it's something to ponder too. I do believe that if Cammus did a v2 version of this C5, with a round shape and slightly bigger paddles, at the same price, it would be tough to beat. Another thing I think you didn't mention, is that the rotary encoders are not working as such: they work like rotary switches, meaning that each position triggers a different input, so they are not good for every use. Cammus could do a workaround via firmware for making them work both ways though, and it would add some value to the package. It's not mentioned in the video, but at Cammus's shop there is a pedal set that I've seen very little talk of, and that is the LC100. 3 pedals, 100 kg range brake with adjustable damper, looks very solid and nice, for 239 dollars. That makes the Cammus ecosystem far more tempting IMO (I don't care about consoles though, Fanatec's compatibility is something to factor in as you stated). Looking forward for that C5 teardown!
Finally someone talking about the LC100 pedals! Ever since this video came out I began to look more into cammus because I wanna upgrade from my G920 and cammus has a great price. Their pedals look good, but with no good in depth reviews it's hard to say if they are actually good. But regardless I might just get them and the wheel. because if you opt for just the wheel and get the LC100 separately you're spending 488. Which is insane for a DD wheel and potentially great pedals too.
I waited for the C5 to be shipped out before making my buying decision a few weeks ago, and was pretty hyped when it finally was on sale. They had a customer, period.....or so I thought. The cost for a C5, pedal set and a desk clamp was an amazing $329US. I added to my cart, and then it all fell apart. Seems that Cammus only ships from China and has no distribution centers that service the US atm----and that's killing them. Putting in my address (NYC, NY, USA) popped up the only shipping option, Air from China, a slow (12-20 day), and waaaaay too expensive way to get it. The total shipping cost was $114.00---ouch! That brought the once great deal to it's knees and killed it. Fanatec started their sale on the CSL DD standard bundle for PC the same day Cammus started selling the C5 to the public. Coincidence? I think not. For a total cost just over $65US more than the C5 bundle mentioned above with horrid shipping charges added I got my foot into a vastly more mature ecosystem that I'm not regretting for a minute was a better idea. Cammus needs to add more distributers, and fast, if they plan on competing with anyone, Fanatec, Moza, anyone. They lost a sale here, and from what I've seen since launch, many, many others bailed for this exact same reason. I really hated waiting like I did to get deterred by the shipping cost, but here it is. I hope they get it together and fix this, competition is a good thing for all.
@dragon2knight same but i live in LA and IT COST 114 to ship TO ME! Me closest to china, and have a major shipping port in Long Beach, Surprises me. That fact that they don’t have a option to ship by sea then deliver by truck or train option. It sucks for everyone that don’t live near a distribution center because we have to pay the high shipping cost.
That’s how Moza is too, when I first looked into getting an R9 and wheel, it was around $150 shipping. I ended up buying locally from Microcenter once they had it in stock, so hoping domestic resellers start stocking Cammus as well.
@@mattlampe I almost went for the Moza at Microcenter myself, they has the R5 bundle as well as the stand alone R9 base as well as a few steering wheels. The cost totaled up was way more than I wanted to spend unfortunately for either option. Thankfully I waited and first the C5 bundle came up followed by the Fanatec bundle. I'm still put off that I couldn't get the C5 at that great price, but the booby prize of the Fanatec bundle wasn't all that bad, I really like it to be honest.
I just started your video, but I appreciate your objective opinions and your integrity to deliver those to your audience. Your channel is the very first recommendation I give to anyone on this topic.
What the competition does is opens up the price band scope to bring more people to sim racing which can only be a good thing. The more people racing on the game platforms, the more competitive and fun the racing should be.
It's interesting to hear what was going on behind the scenes with Cammus. I wonder if this is the reason why we never got a review of the Thrustmaster T818 direct drive base. From the videos I saw of that base it looked like most of them were suspiciously positive, like even the "negatives" that the reviewers said about it looked like were talking points from Thrustmaster to make the review look more genuine.
I'm not at all saying that this applies to TM, but generally speaking some companies pay for their reviews and/or aren't willing to provide review samples to channels who pride themselves on complete honesty; demanding a final say or positive review in return for sending the goods. I'll pick a product (or other product from same company) that Boosted has found to have a couple of issues but good overall (especially if they've taken criticism onboard!) long before a product that's deemed "perfect" by a channel accepting (or setting, if it's a disguised infomercial) such terms.
@@boostedmedia Supporting streamers is really nice but when it comes to spending my money I want to make sure I get the best deal possible. (This is why having channels like yours is so important and great.) If a company doesn't want to have non biased reviews of their products and can't take criticism and make improvements thats a HUGE red flag. Don't get me wrong I think its important to support your favourite content creators so they can produce more great content. But Thrustmaster is selling really expensive gear. It's not a €20 T-shirt we are talking about. The T818 costs €650. That's not the kind of money most people can just throw out the window just because the company making this product has their name on the screen when watching a stream. And this is why I say sarcastically "amazing company". Because of the price of Thrustmaster's products I find this behaviour anti-consumer at best.
I really want to see how this thing ticks. I find this thing really interesting and the entry level sim racing market has just exploded over the past 3 months as someone who got the r5 back in March seeing all these price drops and new options for dd is insane. Interested to see if logitech slaps back with something cause I see no reason to buy a g920/923 with this existing
I love the design of this device. I watched the engineering video they posted about it and was almost sold on the spot. The price is even better. They talk about how the inertia of the wheel is lower because of the design, allowing it to feel more responsive. I've heard from some people in sim communities that have said it feels like an 8-9 Nm wheel, even when it's peak torque is only about 5-6. I think for a lot of people, in the casual sim racing market, especially truck sim customers, this could very easily be a forever wheel for them. I'm just trying to decide if I want to buy this now to start learning DD FFB, or wait to take out a loan and upgrade everything all at the same time.
i appreciate that the shifters are so small because they will be out of the way when you aren't using paddles. I'm sure people can 3D print their own paddles to add on to these little ones for if the do end up using the paddles
@@dokedoker3340 that is only on the v1 rs wheel. All other round wheels, including the rs v2, have a printed moza logo on the wheel rim or on the carbon cover.
I recently Repaired an LG Direct Drive Washing Machine. The Cammus Wheel looks like the same principles. It is amazing how much torque and power you can get from these kinds of motors. I would be surprised to see 8 Nm wheels soon.
Great video. I am 61 years old so I’m definitely a different generation. I wanted to complement you on your phraseology of inviting people to subscribe. From my point of you, you have the most powerful and non-obnoxious request for subscribing. I hate how people/videographers interrupt their video and are pushy about subscribing in ways that even come across as begging. I feel that your phraseology for requesting people to subscribe is fantastic. During the video I had decided I was going to subscribe and then when I heard your request even if I didn’t want to subscribe, I would have anyway. Great job love your channel, love your ethics, and love your reviews.
Random heads up, "Genuine Leather" is the lowest quality cut of leather. Often artificial leather lasts longer than genuine leather, especially when exposed to the oils on our skin.
Yeah, terms like 'Genuine Leather', 'Full Grain Leather' or 'Top Grain Leather' refer to the _quality_ of the leather being used, and not whether the material is real leather or not. Will would be best served dropping that 'notation'.
Innovation at the low end is still innovation. We are seeing better tech at that price point which will grow the industry by exposing sim racing to those that otherwise may be turned off by the higher price points. Great video as always !
thats what im saying because to stay competitive on the low end theyre going to have to make cheaper yet better stuff so right now the low end is 5nm with good quality but over time thatll climb to 8-10 nm with just as good if not better quality. What i think hes talking about is high end innovation to make it cheaper but i personally feel like the low end stuff is where they will make most of their money so its better to focus on it.
Thank you thank you thank you for this review. I was going green light the purchase of the g923 but I still felt dissatisfied from testing but after your review I’m confident without testing that the C5 is exactly what I’m looking for in a wheel and I will definitely take your recommendations on alternative pedal options. Thank you again!
hey did you buy the cammus c5 yet? did it come in? I was planning on getting the g923 on amazon refurbished/renewed but then i saw this video and read your comment. Hope you are racing now and having fun
I feel like Cammus is trying to to tell the rest of the SIM world that all wheels should be direct drive with how they have priced this whole thing, P.S. thanks for showing this can be mounted without the table clamp kit as other videos tend to have missed that and I was under the assumption you had to have it to even mount the wheel but your video has shown me otherwise so cheers mate.
The sharpness of the force feedback despite the weight distribution in the wheel is due to the fact that the torque is directly in the wheel itself instead of being transferred to the wheel thru the center shaft of the wheel base!
I am going the Moza r12 + Moza KS + Fanatec Clubsport V2 pedals. A little more costly but i think will last me forever. Currently have the G27 i got in like 2010. Haven't pre-ordered yet, waiting to see the Asetek La Prima review. I like the Asetek aesthetic, but they are a little more money again when adding GST (tax) and shipping.
That's a very smart design. This is likely where the future of these sim wheels will go, as it'll become easy to supply this type of motor housing as motors continue to develop better and better, and using a small low power motor doesnt require any fancy mounting bracket designs or size. I genuinely think beyond the shifters, this looks super solid. I would like to hear about this from people as people use em for longer to see if they last or perform well.
Its an XT60 DC input for the power. They're used extensively on RC aircraft and FPV drones. They can tend to get loose when you crash your quad into metal gates at 150km/h but to fix that all you need to do is put a screwdriver into the male end and split the end of the bullets back out a little bit more. I don't really see any reason for a stationary wheelbase and power supply to have that issue and 30 second fix and its super sturdy again! Just thought I'd mention that for anyone hesitant about the input power.
I have a Fanatec ClubSport v2.5, been thinking about grabbing their latest DD model. I’d consider another brand, but Fanatec is so good, plus I already have all the accessories, so I only have to buy the base. However, it never occurred to me a round wheel might improve my rally and drift performance 🤔 I got a GT3 wheel for formula one and GT racing, so I’ll consider that
Very well said. Between C5 and R5 bundles I believe R5 is the best option just for two reasons. 1) Shifters: R5 has decent shifters. I really don't understand how Cammus chose so small shifters. 😕 2) Pedals: Again R5 bundle has the option to upgrade current pedals with MOZA SR-P Lite Brake Pedal Performance Kit and with MOZA SR-P Lite Clutch Pedal for less 100$ which is very value for money. On the other side Cammus gives no option except LC100 pedals which are more expensive than complete (with clutch) MOZA SR-P Pedals. So C5 could have been the best sim racing package if it had normal shifters and good upgradable pedals. Another downside for Cammus is the shipping costs in Europe that increase the total purchase. 😞
Man, I chose a great time to get into the space. I wish I had waited a week (my CSL DD price dropped exactly one week after I purchased), but just seeing all these folks having all these great options to start up like me at the same time has me geeked. See y'all online!
Just a heads-up: PMSM doesn't mean the rotor is on the outside, it just means that it uses permanent magnets and doesn't rely on slip to generate torque. Motors that have the rotor on the outside are called generally called outrunners, and it's my understanding that Fanatec also uses outrunners. They allow for more pole pairs than an inrunner and can allow you to get more torque than an inrunner for the same current. In any case, the wheel is connected to the rotor, so it's not surprising that the C5 inertia isn't that far off from the Fanatec you compared it to. The only practical difference between the two is that you can't see the rotor of the Fanatec because it's inside the housing of the base.
ended up pulling the trigger on this - i already have pedals and the CSL DD kit needs pedals added for a nice discount so just grabbing the cammus wheel was a much cheaper option - even when shipping to Canada! Pretty damn excited to upgrade from my G27
Its a cool unit especially for the price, although I would love to see some upgradability in future iterations or be able to change some things like the paddles and wheel atleast as I think even if it had better FFB for a cheaper price, i would still opt for fanatec/moza just purely so that I can have it the way I want for each race or type of motorsport instead of feeling locked or having to buy a whole other unit to just have a different wheel/paddles
I suppose 28cm had been the industry standard for a long time before sim racing started becoming more mainstream. After finally getting a 30cm diameter wheel, I find myself not wanting to go back to the smaller wheels. It feels too small now, too toy-like. I've actually decided that when I do finally upgrade, I'll be ordering only 30+ wheels. Probably as much as 33cm. Looking for the 1:1 size.
Formula cars do typically have a wheel diameter between 260-290mm. Gt cars typically range between 290-330mm. Road and drift cars are typically between 320-350mm
I agree, I'm used to my 95 s10 and 03 mustang GT wheels which are pretty sizeable. I have the Fanatec GT DD Pro with the Grant Turismo wheel and it's alright for circuit racing, but it's wayyyy too small for things like Dirt Rally 2, AC drifting, and playing simcade stuff like Forza and Wreckfest
Great to see the positive reviews for this bit of kit, Hope it sells in large numbers. The entry level for simracing has been treated shamefully by Logitech.
That Camas looks amazing! Can you imagine how low you could put a monitor?? That alone would be amazing. I run a DD1 right now. Maybe I'm weird but I really don't think you need that much force at all. I've raced real cars for about 20 years now, and I've never once felt a real car want to break my arms off. haha. I love swapping wheels though so that's a little bit of a downside. I'm just super pumped that all of these companies are coming out with cool entry level wheels.
Thanks for the great reviews as always Will! Keep it up! Also, loving the partership with Microcenter! They're sort of what Fry's Electronics were out here but... better! :D The Tustin location out here in South CA has TK's 8020 rig setup with 3 monitors and they have tons of sim racing hardware indeed. TK himself works with Microcenter as well so can't go wrong there!
I just got mine's two days ago. Overall quality is good, but those buttons, knobs and shifting paddle are definitely plastic on mine instead of aluminum or metal. I'm good with the FFB in ACC and rF2, but still struggle to find a universal ffb setup across different genre of cars in AC. Sadly how Cammus setup those 3 rotary encoders (1 knob represent as 10 momentary switches) basically rendering those 3 knobs useless in games. That active cooling fan are constantly running making noises almost as if someone putting a gamming laptop in front of the desk is quite annoying too. Overall it's still a good alternative for loghitech wheels which I upgraded from. Fanatec bundle might be better if there is available locally, shipping them from US or JP will probably cost 100~150USD, let along dealing with warranty issue. Can't wait for the tear down video, I'd like to know is there any way to swap the D-shaped wheel into a round one.
Id like to see you fabricate a z shape bracket, or if not just swap the left and right brackets (this will lower them below the center of the wheel) and drop a monitor behind the wheel base effectively through the virtual steering column. I remember you once saying "it's a shame you can't buy monitors with a cut out for the wheel base" this seems like the next best thing to see loads of the virtual dashboard.
Seems like a good option. How are you finding the Ally? I was offered a loan unit to test but I could only keep it for a week and with all the issues it seems to be having, I felt like I needed longer to be able to do a thorough review.
@boostedmedia like I said I travel alot so it has been great, runs everything I have thrown at it with no issues.. plenty of ways to tweak power and graphics to get the most battery but you will need a battery bank for when you are away from outlet.
I bought csl dd pro with the boost kit and the load cell pedal and the mclaren gt3 wheel a couple years ago and it has been absolutely amazing. Not until this clubsport dd plus was announced did I even ever think of possibly upgrading someday. So who knows, in a couple more years I may grab one of them. But for the amount I play, I definitely feel I made the right choice.
5:45 You say that the race to the bottom for price could stifle innovation while sitting behind one of the most innovative and inexpensive designs to hit the market.
Wow, I didn't expect this price about two years ago. If it is durable, and maybe a model with a little bit more power in the future, it is great news for simracers without a big budget.
Got my c5 last week. The power is super strong. My hand hurts after a lap at nordschleife. It is at least 3 times stronger than my g29. My cheap aluminium profile rig is flexing a lot especially at the wheel mounting plate since it uses thin metal plate😅😅. I dont recommend that you mount this wheel to a desk if you want to use 100% ffb. It is built solid. Suprisingly the small paddle shifter doesn't bother me. But the D shaped wheel really bothers me a lot. I cant catch the wheel properly when coming out of a slide and It is compounded by the strong ffb. I tried drifting with the wheel but i think the wheel is too fast on the transition and that always ends the drift midway. Maybe i am still getting used to it since i am coming from g29. You have to turn on the Cammus software if you want the speedometer and rev light working. There is a settings called CF filter in the cammus software that adds details to the wheel just like logitech wheel. But it is also added a weird vibrations that starts at high frequency and goes to lower frequency as you drive faster in game and it is counter intuitive. If you put too much CF filter your wheel will become too noisy and your hand will become numb. If too less CF filter, you cannot feel the road and curb texture. I also noticed that every car needs different CF filter level. The wheel got really hot after a few laps at nordschleife at 100% power. The fan seems a bit too far from the vents and not doing much cooling. I am 3d printing a shroud to directs the air into one of the vents available. That said, i have not experienced power fade even with the hot motor. P/s: tested on og assetto corsa only Update: after an hour of practising drift and lowered the ffb to 50%, i can say that it is a bliss to drift with a direct drive wheel. So easy and less effort required. Update 2: Bought ACC. The force feedback is absolutely fine. Loved how the game convey road detail and tyre slip to the wheel. I can easily maintain slip angle now.
@@boostedmediajust sharing my experience. I would love to open it up and see if it is possible to change the wheel, but i am afraid that it will break. If possible, can you disect the wheel for us plebs?
Ive had a trusty g27 foe years now. This is the first wheel that has has me really considering an upgrade. If there was a larger round wheel i'd be sold
This is a contender for my next sim setup. Ive bought and sold a g25 and recently a g29. I never really enjoyed the ergonomics of them and didnt find myself using them as often as I thought. Now that im about to build a new PC, my current one will be retired to be a dedicated sim racing rig, cockpit and all and this seems like a great entry into it. Gonna have to wait til its a bit more PnP though, as Dirt Rally 2.0 is my most played racing game
I felt so lucky because i just decided to try sims for the first time, fanatec bundle drop first video went straight to the site to order...available 17th august...then i notice this video, even better at 250 more like 300 with a clamp since no rig yet but fine...200$ shipping... And lastly moza...30 $ shipping 3-7 business and clamp included...
Definitely pull them apart! I was hoping to see the inside! We have never seen this before. Also i heard it's possible to put a third party steering wheel when you take them apart?
They mounted the Core of the motor instead of the body. Thus you are actually trying to hold the outer casing of the motor, Its a genius design for a compact wheel. It does put a TON of force on your mounting surface though, so for people like me with a wood mounting surface in their rig. You may need to Upgrade the mount for this. I will probably hold off to see if I can swap wheels, as I drive Trucks with my rig, so the little racing wheel is kind of a deal breaker, but I am definitely interested in this. I could also mount Turn signal and retarder stalks where they would naturally be which would be awesome. As I drive trucks mostly, 5 NM is more than enough.
Im from Argentina, no way i can afford even this, im still rolling in my sweetheart g25, i take so much care of it since 2008. AC make wonders with a basic wheel. My envy level is beyond my grip limit.
Seems to be the greatest first and not immediatly wanting to change setup for a simracer are the pedals lacking options to add some resistance, at least for the brakes. Anyways, its great to see that some companies are also looking for to match most peoples pockets and we won't see simracing only getting more and more an elite hobby.
I opted for Moza R5 since the delivery in my area is 130€ and a long delivery time. And i also wanted the formula wheel mod but i think this is a cool product and i actually like to try it.
I recently got a Logitech wheel and I love it, it's so much fun. But I guess I'm going to have to upgrade to one of these DD wheels at some point. Pretty amazing gear to be had now.
Just remembered this and went online to make the purchase, the base level kit with shipping (Wheel, pedals, desk clamp) and no shifter was nearly $1200 aud. Wild. I paid less for my 12nm Fanatec DD bundle with pedals, shifter etc.
Cool to see such a compact base. It will be cool to see where they go from here. Maybe a design with the wheel mounted in front of the base, instead of the motor being part of the wheel. Would be nice to be able to use aftermarket wheels.
Great Video Great Product: This will be a great buy for kids, casual racers, and beginners. I bought the Fanatec DD Pro when they first released it, with the fully upgraded power pack and load-cell pedals. However, I'm very curious about this wheel's performance and will probably be picking up their next version of this model. I love the minimized design!
I like the fact that the competition is upping their game, the design is very smart and compact. But for me, someone who likes to swap between custom wheels etc. I dont see myself ever buying a dd wheel like this. Currently running the moza r5 with momo wheel & ltec wheel and I rarely use the stock moza wheel because of the D shape. I mainly drift.
iof someone wouldve told me 5hrs ago, that someone would make and direct drive wheel into the actual wheel included, i would say, that the person is crazy and that no manufactor would or even could do this. well, i guess i wouldve been completly wrong. i find this wheel, absolute perfect for pc gamers who wanna race a few times.... on a table. BUT even then i wouldve appreciated a price of 300 including, pedals with Throttle/Brake/Clutch even if that means a little less quality..... still a very nice wheel for beginners or part time racers 😉🙃
Power connection looks like a xt60-xt90 used in RC (lithium batteries) so should be good for a couple hundred plug/unplugging. If the front plate has a edge you maybe able to use a multimeter to see if you can get continuity (shows it's real carbon fibre)
would be cool seeing as you are one of the few Aussie channels to mention how we can get them here without being stung hundreds in shipping, especially on the more budget end :)
That DC connector appears to be an XT60 connector. These have been used in the RC hobby for over a decade... Never seen them used for anything else like this.
@@Metla666yep. They did tell me they’re working on stocking with resellers.
For the better pedals I would probably go Fanatec if I were buying now
While I opted for Moza, I am still very excited to see the competition ramping up in this space, it is great for us all.
I strongly disagree because these Chinese companies don't do any real innovations and don't have high development or design costs. Low prices will kill the non Chinese companies or stop them from innovating and have them only compete on existing techniques.
@@Frank_Steven_GroenEvery price range and quality has it's customers. The more the merrier.
Personally speaking, I love the competition, or more significantly, my wallet does.
@@Frank_Steven_Groen Its competition Bro - You were probably complaining about the high prices of sim gear last year. LOL
i have a Moza R5 and in F1 23 with 95% ffb strenght in game and Moza Racing YT channel settings, it gets very hot, after 10/15 laps the FFB becomes weak and some effects almost completely go away (like dampening and wheel friciton). does this happens to someone else?
That yellow power plug is an XT60 plug, used for RC planes, cars, helis and the like. They are very robust and will not wear out with the amount of times you will plug/unplug the unit. They are made to be plugged/unplugged a huge number of times so that is an excellent feature of this wheel
This is revolutionary for truck sims, because the low price and high/infinite angle, this will make truck driving far more realistic!
Its also really good because of how many buttons you have on the wheel. I play ATS all the time and theres so many functions that you would need three button boxes for the sim 😂
@@Steve30x I use the Logitech heavy equipment side panel for my truck sim games. Comes with a lot of buttons, scrollwheels and even a joystick.
apart from the 28cm diameter that is
Honestly, with a larger rim (idk how you'd do it, but its gotta be possible somehow, hell, you could probably fit the motor bit inside a large airbag sttering wheel), and its ability to be tilted way more easily (so you get the proper steering wheel position instead of the more car-like one you tend to get with most bases) it'd be pretty awesome for heavy machinery and the like
@@Steve30xi use a t248 for having 30+ keybinds on the wheel itself. but ill be happy to have a dd and a box for keybindd
I hope their European distributors get this in stock soon since buying from Cammus directly adds a pretty hefty transport and customs cost.
Considering that the EU market is a lot bigger than the stand-alone bexit UK market the prices probably reflects that
They have European distributors? What are they?

While the wheel seems great, you skipped the key part about the HUGE shipping cost if trying to order this wheel from Cammus. If they offered free shipping, I'd be all over it.
@@KapperTubeyep unfortunately we can’t account for shipping costs in every region or the video would be far too long. Apparently they’re setting up some more local distribution which should hopefully reduce these costs. At the moment it’s crazy expensive.

Dude please review their LC100 pedals!
The Cammus seems like a perfect pair to the Playseat challenge as an entry level rig. awesome value. $500 bucks and you get a DD wheel, pedals, and a rig that is super portable, lightweight and functional.
the flex in that seat is bad enough with a g29 let alone a dd

Good Choice
I'm kinda interested in taking the wheel apart, minus the base since it's a smaller setup with that sort of construction to see how easily i can attach a quick release system to it
Personally I don't think you'll be able to separate wheel from base.
i like everything about this wheel except the wheel itself and how it is mounted to the motor...
i might buy it, use an angle grinder to cut the wheel off and bolt my own to the "buttonplate".
Me too
@@ralphbooger4756that an awesome idea. Do you think we could at least exchange the rim?
Cost me $80 USD to ship to AUS with a 10-15 day bracket. Still far cheaper than alternatives.
I just started your video, but I appreciate your objective opinions and your integrity to deliver those to your audience. Your channel is the very first recommendation I give to anyone on this topic.
Thanks very much for the support!
What the competition does is opens up the price band scope to bring more people to sim racing which can only be a good thing.
The more people racing on the game platforms, the more competitive and fun the racing should be.
Yea agreed - it also forces the devs to start fixing bugs with wheels for racing games
In the case of Thrustmaster, they stopped communicating with us after I said I didn’t think the TLCM pedals were a good buy.
@@boostedmedia Wow. Amazing company xD
My observation is they seem to be more interested in sponsored content than reviews which is fine. They support a lot of streamers which is great.
Aesthetics play a larger role than any of us would like to admit. I just love the look of the Moza stuff.
Definitely not a good looking unit
The space for buttons on the middle is way too bulky and takes up too much space in the diameter of the wheel.
@@kokopellione It is not 'space for buttons' it is literally the direct drive wheel base itself. Hence the different look.
Amen my fellow punter, amen
@@dokedoker3340 that is only on the v1 rs wheel. All other round wheels, including the rs v2, have a printed moza logo on the wheel rim or on the carbon cover.
I recently Repaired an LG Direct Drive Washing Machine. The Cammus Wheel looks like the same principles. It is amazing how much torque and power you can get from these kinds of motors. I would be surprised to see 8 Nm wheels soon.
They are brushless outrunner motors basically. Same thing that's used for hub motors in electric scooters too.
Im definitely interested in what the interals are like.

TLDR
The torque must feel great, being built into the wheel itself. Cool concept and design.
Will, fantastic review of the C5! Thank you for hitting the rally/drift audience with the comments of D shaped should be a round wheel!
That mid-race wheel change was pretty slick.
Haha. Managed to pull off an overtake with no wheel. 😂
Thank you thank you thank you for this review. Thank you again!
hey did you buy the cammus c5 yet? did it come in? I was planning on getting the g923 on amazon refurbished/renewed but then i saw this video and read your comment. Hope you are racing now and having fun
@@SamSam563 not yet, I’m saving for a pedal setup.
The campus c5 looks like it would be perfect for mobile sim racing
I've gone for the CSL DD ready to race bundle, best value for money at the mo.
Much respect for the transparency
Great job on this review. Clear, concise and complete. I appreciate how you do comparisons between other options. Thank you!
Thanks :)
@boosted media that power connector is standard XT 60 and in my experience does NOT get loose even after repeatedly connecting/disconnecting it
good time to be an entry player to simracer
I have a Fanatec ClubSport v2.5, been thinking about grabbing their latest DD model. I’d consider another brand, but Fanatec is so good, plus I already have all the accessories, so I only have to buy the base. However, it never occurred to me a round wheel might improve my rally and drift performance 🤔 I got a GT3 wheel for formula one and GT racing, so I’ll consider that
I highly recommend the C5 over the fanatec DD pro.
Very well said. Between C5 and R5 bundles I believe R5 is the best option just for two reasons.
1) Shifters: R5 has decent shifters. I really don't understand how Cammus chose so small shifters. 😕
2) Pedals: Again R5 bundle has the option to upgrade current pedals with MOZA SR-P Lite Brake Pedal Performance Kit and with MOZA SR-P Lite Clutch Pedal for less 100$ which is very value for money.
Pulled the trigger on this. Why not for $305 shipped to Northeast USA. First step into DD from gear driven/belt drive.
A good price but as it ships from direct from China there's a big add on cost to factor in
Just a heads-up: PMSM doesn't mean the rotor is on the outside, it just means that it uses permanent magnets and doesn't rely on slip to generate torque.
I have fully modded Logitech pedals. Would I be able to use those with this wheel?

As great of a deal this is, the way a sim looks is really important to me specifically. Moza just delivers when it comes to esthetics.
I wonder if microcenter will carry this...at that price I'm sure it would sell well

Can we talk about how clean that mid-race rim swap was?
Nice!!! if more of these keeps coming out the prices for other wheels will finally go down :O
Can't wait for your Cammus LP8 review.
Id like to see you fabricate a z shape bracket, or if not just swap the left and right brackets (this will lower them below the center of the wheel) and drop a monitor behind the wheel base effectively through the virtual steering column. I remember you once saying "it's a shame you can't buy monitors with a cut out for the wheel base" this seems like the next best thing to see loads of the virtual dashboard.
might just get the table clamp and drill holes for csl dd
Very much needed competition lets see what tech and innovation brings us the consumer. Great time to be a sim racer 💯
I travel a lot for work and this small setup dd matched with my Rog Ally and dock sounds perfect for quick hotel setup.
Tear it down!! V.interested to see it opened up.
P/s: tested on og assetto corsa only
Update: after an hour of practising drift and lowered the ffb to 50%, i can say that it is a bliss to drift with a direct drive wheel. So easy and less effort required.
Update 2: Bought ACC. The force feedback is absolutely fine. Loved how the game convey road detail and tyre slip to the wheel. I can easily maintain slip angle now.
Good feedback. Thanks for taking the time to write this :)
Nice review.
Great review Will!
I didn't even know Eminem was into Sim Racing! Great Review though! thanks
Sauce about the steering wheel please.
The wheel rotation speed is impressive, crazy how the ffb is on par with entry level fanatecs
I opted for Moza R5 since the delivery in my area is 130€ and a long delivery time. And i also wanted the formula wheel mod but i think this is a cool product and i actually like to try it.
Wow, it feels like they address loads of issues why I was telling to a wheels before. Will give it a go
I recently got a Logitech wheel and I love it, it's so much fun.
I Think Logitech and Thrustmaster should use this type of motor format in the cheap models that have a fixed wheel, like the g920 and t248
I really wish the C5 had a brake and throttle paddle shifters built into the base itself.
14:40 - That's a USB-B connection. Not C unfortunately. I almost got excited haha. Beautiful cable though, very premium looking
Good catch. No idea why I said “C” 😂
5k likes, time to open that IED of parts
iof someone wouldve told me 5hrs ago, that someone would make and direct drive wheel into the actual wheel included, i would say, that the person is crazy and that no manufactor would or even could do this.
well, i guess i wouldve been completly wrong.
i find this wheel, absolute perfect for pc gamers who wanna race a few times....
It is xt60
would be cool seeing as you are one of the few Aussie channels to mention how we can get them here without being stung hundreds in shipping, especially on the more budget end :)
why isnt it sold in the uk
Love the design, I hope this pressures companies that can support large customer volume to lower their prices.
That DC connector appears to be an XT60 connector. These have been used in the RC hobby for over a decade... Never seen them used for anything else like this.
I’d definitely love to see a disassembly video!
