Im thinking of growing a sundew.....but im neediing a super big variety as im hoping to catch my next door neighbours dog....as it enters my garden under the fence....so how do i grow a 'Super dog catching sundew' 😆
@@venusflytrapworld haha...what no suggestions.???....but thinking about it, in Jurassic times i bet sundews were massive...catching any passing dino?...what do you think?
For my sundews, I've got a dish of apple and pear peelings where fruit flies breed. In a few days, there will be many fruit flies just the right size for the sundews. They are also good for butterworts.
I really like your videos! I hope you do other carnivorous plants as I'm hoping to start collecting more. I recently learned that Venus Fly Traps are considered "vulnerable" and may become endangered soon. Do you have any advice for conservation? All I find is to make sure that you're not buying poached Fly Traps.
yeah unless you live near or in the native range of the plants, it doesn't help conservation too much. Unless the whole wild population dies and the only ones left are in cultivation
very nice video, I have a lot of sundews,as they are my favourite carnivores...I like to feed them with fish food or flies (you can make some nice timelapse videos then, too :-)
Can they get root rot if left in water all the time? My Venus fly trap I was told to add water to the tray and let the water completely deplete before adding new water or else it'll get root rot. I've been successfully doing that for 2+ years. Is the sun dew the same or should it always be watered?
I’m having a lot of trouble keeping the spatulata tamlin variety healthy. I’ve done all of your advice except for maybe that ratty can’t grow in hot Florida weather. That’s the only thing I can think of because all my other stuff is thriving in the same little bin of water
@@heathersplants5708 Mine started to get dew after a while, all the dew gets wiped off during transport and it takes time and energy for the plant to make new. Mine died eventually due to me going away on vacation. I was bottom watering it and since it was so hot in my apartment all the water evaporated quickly. But I noticed some bugs on it before I went and it looked very healthy so I would say just let it do its thing and just focus on not letting it dry out. I'm probably gonna buy new ones and try again and be more careful :)
Hi there! Great videos, I have a Drosera Scorpioides , and I would like to know how deep the pot should be for this plant please, as it came bare root. I also have Drosera spatulata and would like to know the size for this plant too please.
Should I put them indoors when it rains? I have one D. aliciae and two D. capensis that spend most of their time outdoors. It rained last night and lots of the dew has gone from them. I know it will grow back quickly but is it best to avoid them being rained on if possible?
Unfortunately some temporate sundews are so top heavy that they fall flat on the ground, collecting a bunch of dirt and non-insect objects that I had to mist them to clean their leaves. Especially after a heavy rainy day. Edit: Just to clarify from experience, some sundews like the drosera capensis require a certain size in order to eat maxsea 16-16-16 or the leaves will turn brown(the leaves that were fed) or even die.
Ahoj Water for sundews 1.)Can I water my sundews with tap water? 2.)Can I water that boiled and then cooled sundews with water? 3.)ed. Wysłano What water do you use for Drosera callistos ,Drosera anglica?
My Drosera slackii Sundew looks all dead from the winter in the UK. Is this normal? I noticed it normally comes back with time. But it does not do as well as i frist got the plant.
I want to get a plant that can eat the little flys in my rat room there is not light what do you think I should try the flys are really small like fruit flys
In June I bought a drosera graomogolensis and drosera riparia. The specimens were very small. In fact, the riparia I could not actually differentiate from the culture. They are growing but perhaps not thriving. My question is when I should start feeding them. I have given them dilute maxsea but it seems to burn the spatula or leaves and I think they might be too small still. They both produce dew and their color is good. They are inside and under lights in continually wet sphagnum. Thx
That's a good question. Sundews start eating as soon as they are big enough to capture bugs. You could try tiny insects like fruit flies or the xs crickets.
I have D. Eloisiana. Recently I cut off what seems to be dead leaves or petioles. I'm at a tropical country, and it's placed somewhere fairly amount of morning light. I see the leaves reaching out more.
🤦🏻♂️ I have been misting mine. Thanks for the information, now I know.
You got it!

I’m such a misting addict since i keep the humidity low. Thanks to you my sundew has its dew back hahah
Drosera Capensis grow EVERYWHERE along the shore of the lake my buddy lives on. I mean EVERYWHERE, like weeds. Very cool plants!

Thats awesome and great idea about timelapses
What a great video thank you. How would you recommend to repot a sundew if you can't buy peat?
can I grow sundews outside in the sun like Venus flytraps and Sarracenia pitchers?
Thanks for the tips because I ordered a drosera capensis online.

Awesome 🌱🌱
My sundew is very small, kinda like the red one in the video but not the same species (its very young). It has no dew, can I still feed it with bugs?
I just got one for the first time. Ordered it online, and it arrived with no dew. I'm not sure what to do. How did yours turn out?

If the dew comes back quick then conditions are great. I don't think is necessary to bring them inside.
@@venusflytrapworld Thank you. Yes, it does grow back within a couple of days so they are obviously doing well.
How often should I put clean water in the bowl?
if I have a humidifier, do I need to use distilled water or can I use regular tap water to fill it?
Is Drosera Binata easy to grow? Can you give me some tips for that species as well? Also a small Drosera Rotundifolia
Not too hard to care for, similar to Capensis. I don’t have a guide for them yet, but good idea

What water do you use for Drosera callistos ,Drosera anglica?
I would only water with rain water, RO or distilled . Boiling tap water may not get rid of all of the minerals
Do you have to do anything to trick a drosera into dormancy for indoor grows?
The pet that's not a pet. That is what I call my carnivorous plants :)
How many hours of sunlight artificial sunlight do I need to provide for my dress, Sarah?

Good tips for nubies
very nice video
Glad you liked it!
Can u tell us specific maximum and minimum temprature?
It really depends on which type of drosera you have. The temperatures can vary a lot
