Just for a quick heads up. The lane change system only works on Pro-pilot 2.0 mapped roads, so while the car is in "Blue" mode which is hands on it will execute auto lane changes with the lane button, or you use the turn signal to do a lane change.
The 19 inch wheels ride a lot quieter than the 20s. The charge curve is super flat and will out charge an ID4 on Bjorn Nylands charging tests.
Also the motor Torque Vectors along with the brakes
The E-Step system is definitely a small annoyance due to no true 1 pedal driving but the vehicle does have OTA firmware updates available so maybe they will update it in as a selectable setting.

Max charging rate of 130kW is only part of the story: Bjorn found that the 87kWh Ariya was still pulling 81kW at 80% SOC! Ariya’s flat charging curve (like E-tron’s) makes it a potentially better road-tripper than the modest max charge rate would suggest.

I disagree on the charge speeds. If it saved money and put this closer to 35k, they could’ve used a 24a charger since you’re pretty unlikely to find or want to install a 40a home circuit for ev charging. So size it for a 30a circuit or go higher to 40a for 50a circuit. However, 60 and 80a are beyond overkill and borderline useless. 80a is the full breaker panel for some people. Sure, for suppling power there may be an argument but 80a/19.2kWh ac is pretty silly. Even a 16a 240v charger can deliver about 100 miles of range over 8 hours.

  • @StubbyStan28

I own the FWD Premiere edition & am waiting to take delivery on the Platinum+ spec. I completely disagree with Kyle's assessment of the AC charging. I've owned mine for 6 weeks and I've never had to wait for the AC charge to be completed. It was always exactly what I needed when I needed it. Personally, I think that Nissan has been ULTRA conservative with their battery management of the Ariya due to everything they've learned from the Leaf. I wouldn't be surprised if after a year Nissan ups the charging limits to 150 kW DCFC with basically the same charging curve once they're able to test how well the battery operates under load for long periods of time.
I'll be very interested to see what Kyle's thoughts are on the charging after a few tests & living with it for a week.

I disagree with you about your AC charging rate of 30 amp being inadequate. For most people, they will be doing that overnight and generally will not be going from empty to full so it’s more than fine. For instance, on my model, Y I just charge usually at 16 A, with my average usage of about 150 miles over three or four days. So I can usually charge from 20% to 80% just using 16 amp charging although I could increase it to 32 A on my level two. Slower charge rates are better for battery life.

    • @Necrotron
      @Necrotron Год назад +2

I agree with you. I have a 40 amp Grizzl-E EVSE that I haven't yet been able to hardwire yet, so I've instead set it down to 24 amps and plugged it into a NEMA 14-30 plug with an adapter. Charges my car just fine. It's not really necessary to go beyond 30-40 amps unless you're planning to get a MASSIVE battery car like a truck, where you need at least 48 amps to get performance similar to 30 amps on a smaller vehicle. I think the real problem here is the price: they really should be discounting it against other vehicles.

    • @kwrzesien17

I agree with you too. Just having 220V in the garage is enough for everyone. The point being is that 110V is not useful at all, and should be avoided at all costs. Any existing 220V will work, and if installing new service just have a 220V 50A socket installed and get the most economically priced EVSE you can find, install an oven whip from Home Depot if its a hardwire design and plug into socket.

Okay, the Ariya is a different beast. I have the Engage, and it's really quirky with e-step. The faster you remove your foot, the faster it gives you more regens. It clearly is not a Lucid Air or Tesla Plaid. It is just not built for that. It is designed for staying in a large city. It is designed to get you from point A to point B in a fun, sporty way. In the Eco mode, it can extend range by 100 miles. I can charge mine from 10% to 100% in 35 minutes. You can go ahead and charge it at home in about 5 hrs to prepare it for the morning. My car was 44k, and the Tesla Y, which had similar options, was 65K. Also, it will auto-change lanes in certain trims. Now with 10 trims, lol! Now, imagine what that beast will do when Nissan comes out with the performance model with a projected 200kWh battery and a 350kWh charging system. Nissan is smart. They have had the Leaf for years. Nissan moves slowly and methodically. Nissan has basically given up on super-fast hot rods. If you go 0-60 in 2 seconds, you can get a ticket for laying drag in my town. If you want more backseat room and headspace, get the Enguage, not the platinum, because of the roof, it takes up 3 inches. Also, the front-wheel drive has a bigger truck space.

I have to say that the difference between Advance and Evolve is huge, with Evolve you get the sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, the Bose sound system, the moving centre console, the electric opening storage, the HUD display, the rear view mirror screen, and many more. I take delivery of my Evolve E-4orce this Friday, its a fully maintained lease deal. I have to strongly disagree with some of your points, especially the charging speed, the Ariya maximises the charging curve, which is pretty flat as others have mentioned, in the real world the Ariya charges pretty much at the same rate as other so called faster charging vehicles.

NO EV gives full power from the stop. A channel of your format SHOULD KNOW THIS! You mistake that with torque.
Power is proportional to torque times RPM.
As there is only a single gear the RPM directly proportional to the speed.
So it is the most normal thing IN THE WORLD to not have the full power until a certain speed.
As soon as you are at the point of max power (which in this case is about 40MPH ... as is with most EVs) the torque falls inverse proportionally to the RPM rising. This creates a flat power curve until the RPM limit of the motor.
Torque is limited by the amperage the motor and inverter can handle.
What Nissan should have done to prevent this misunderstanding (even seasoned EV journalists as yourself are falling for) is to report the percentage of the available torque produced at that RPM/speed.
Nissan just decided to provide very limited torque and gently torque rampup ... And this is probably done to keep cost for the power electronics (mainly inverter) in check.
The more torque should be delivered, the more copper is needed in the motor and the more MOSFETs or higher quality MOSFETs are needed in the inverter.
Another thing is durability of the car overall. High torque at low speeds shortens the life span of differentials, drive axles, suspension arm bushings, and so on.
So ramping the torque softly makes sure the car holds up during waranty.
This is something the Hyundai Kona and Kia eNiro is also known for. These cars have a waranty of 5 and 7 years and thus it falls on the manufacturer if the car rips apart itself.
How bad this is can be seen with the amount of suspension defects in Model 3 and Y ... sometimes worn out after less than 30.000 miles.

Tax credit isn’t a big deal. Nissan is giving equivalent rebates. Also the complaint about the turning on the car seat warmer, their is a little icon on the bottom left or right of the screen that turns it on. And that is on every screen option you press. I have had several Nissans over the years, simply because I was able to get family discounts. One thing I have noticed on the whole Nissan lines including Infiniti, is that they are always so far behind on technology. At least 4-5 years. It just drives me crazy to see that. I am a tech nerd and am attracted to shiny objects. Nissan really never has had very many shiny objects. With that said, reliability of their lines I have never had issues with. Manufacturers must build vehicles with 800V architecture if they want people to be happy with their purchase and not wanting to go back to the ICE.
